It definitely smokes well, I wonder if does have any rings in it, lolol. The moniker peace pipe sounds good to me. Hell I got a contact buzz just watching the video. Cool machine!!
I would think that would be up there for one of the rarest Harley and Indians ever made especially if there isn't many of them left floating around and if it were mine I would throw a set of rings and bearings in it to make sure everything is up to complete running order have the carburetor rebuilt and throw a set of tires on it and some lights and ride it just as is atleast every once in a while but when I'm not riding it and it's just sitting on display I would have the original tires and wheels on it and if it's not meant to have lights on it I would take them off to sit on display but that bike is begging to be ridden
I have a 39EL it’s a factory right hand shift and left hand throttle. I tell people that if Harley Davidson and Indian had a child it would be this bike. Now I see this bike and I think my backwards knuck isn’t the love child I thought it was. This is amazing! I really want to find time to get to WTT and check it out! You guys are always blowing my mind!
What an incredible piece of history, glad it made it to where it belongs (at Wheels Through Time, of course!). Plus I got another instance of what's become my favorite phrase here: "There's only one other in the world" usually followed by Matt pointing across the room and saying something like "and it's right over there" 😂
My dad told me as a child that all they need is air, fuel, and fire. Then she'll fire off. I'm 39 now and have been a GM dealer mechanic for 19 years, and I will say it's more complex, but the basics haven't changed. It's just harder to figure out why it doesn't have one of the three.
Matt, yesterday the family and I were on our way home from a short holiday, and I suggested we stop at Doc's HD in Shawano WI so the kids could see the animals and the wonderful museum Steve has there. While showing the kids the shop and such, Doc was in his shop getting a cannonball bike ready, and while talking to him, I looked on the wall and saw a big picture of a Gelbke auto 4 with 2 people on it, and he said "yea, that's me and Dale Walksler driving". My mouth hit the floor, and he proceeded to tell me the fascinating story of how that all came about with the show what's in the barn, and how wonderful of a Man your Dad was. Steve also told us some History on Wild Bill, and the stories of the 2 auto 4's that were built. He also showed us around and we saw some incredibly rare peices. I could listen to stories like this for hours. Of course, the kids were getting impatient, lol. The moral of the story is that I appreciate what you are doing there as well as Doc in the preservation of history, and I appreciate the passion that you people have for the History, and the stories alike. I have never been to your museum, but I swore to everyone there that I would 1 day visit Wheels Through Time. Thank you for what you do, and thank you for taking the time out to make these videos. God bless.
very cool ... sounds great and amazingly powerful "take it for a long ride" maybe the rings are stuck and will break free ... the bike could not have ended up in a better place "hats off" Matt
How cool was that! You told this bikes story nicely Matt and then to hear it come to life, just awesome. What a treasure. Love watching these old bikes run but to see a frankenstein bike run, is very cool. Would love to hear more about the history of this amazing ride too.
Yes it will run and it will take 2 kicks after the prime kicks. Pretty cool old bike. I don't know if I'd give it new rings or not. Maybe soak it in some penetrating oil the old rings may just need to be freed up. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Hi guys, just stumbled on this vid a year later, I don't even quality as a novice but I do love watching these old beauties being brought back to life, my question is, would this bike be a joint effort of makers or a bike lovers project?
I bet you could ride that a little ways. Just think how good it would run with a new ring in it. That half breed bike is super cool. You gotta love it.
I was first introduced to your business…and your Dad…by watching the show Pickers when they came to your place…your Dad….what can I say…and your knowledge is amazing!
My phone can’t do justice to the sound and I can’t smell through it either but can imagine both till I can make out to see your treasure! Thanks again!!
I was able to check Off my bucket list this Summer going to the Wheels Through Time museun,What a great place,Full of bikes and history & now a little more! Amazing place for sure!!
Wow! Whatta find! Never thought I would see something like that. I have to say every video of yours I watch, I can see the enthusiasm, the excitement that you and your staff has. Great job!
Nothing like starting up a vintage bike for the first time. I started my 1968 XLCH the first time after sitting indoors for 34 years! After doing some basic prep just 4 kicks and she fired right up! Smoked like a fright train at first but now…absolutely no smoke at all and pulls hard like a freight train! That thing may comeback without a ring job.
This bike is so beautiful. All dimensions and shapes are incredibly perfect. The engine details also say the same thing: this bike was built by a master of speed and design. The sound when it started..... Would love to park it next to my '52 BSA dirt track racer and take it out for races every now and then.
Looks like a good ol' scoot. Man, there is so much heavy iron in the doggone thing! I love making old equipment live again. I bet touching the magneto spark when running is BRUTAL!
I wouldn't be surprised if that bike hasn't run in 40 or 50 years, it'll always warm my heart to hear an engine that's been asleep for so long finally be awoken from it's slumber. What especially impressed me is the fact that it idled without any issues, it's as if it never went to sleep.
These old frankenbike customs are just brilliant, people still do this to this day. from buell motors into harley frames, cagiva mitos running yamaha YPVS engines, and the crazy breations of allen millyard and his 12 cylinder kawasakis, just been watching a video of a guy putting a CRF450 into a CBR125R frame... to see the guys doing modifications way back in the teens and twenties is really fascinating. Is this a race Mod? or just someone adapting an indian that had a chewed up head and barrels? Amazing to see , im trying to imagine the guy who did this... and why he made the mods... edit. after hearing it fire up it was for racing! and he ragged it some!...
Outstanding Matt! It sounds so unique. Oh, I bought one of the big ticket packages for the ‘37 Knuckle. Can’t wait to ride it home! Larry in Fort Worth
You know what let me share this little trick bro when you clean that bowl and dry it good take your finger and dip it in a bottle of lucus oil treatment and rub it in the bowl before you put it back. Then if you put it up for a while when you take it off monthes or years later the bowl will be clean as a new penny.
Three kicks I'd say. Well, maybe five? It don't matter, it sounds a lot like my old Ducati 250. I got it when I was sixteen, first street legal bike I owned. That is such a great find, something I'd love to have, but probably will get to see, when I get out that way, and 350 miles west of me. Thanks, that was great to see and see start up.
I'm visiting murphy NC from 4-11 to the 18th. Will yall be open? Maps says the museum is temporarily closed. I've been watching you guys for quite a while and it's been a dream of mine to these amazing pieces of history
This is a very cool bike , and it sounds fantastic! Nice job acquiring it and getting it started. Maybe Mike might be thinking , maybe I should have kept that one , oh well it’s in your museum now! If I get to Springfield I’ll want to see this one for sure!
I shall call that bike piece pipe. A combination of Indian and Harley smoking together. 😂
I’m laughing WAY to hard at this
Brilliant.
It definitely smokes well, I wonder if does have any rings in it, lolol. The moniker peace pipe sounds good to me. Hell I got a contact buzz just watching the video. Cool machine!!
😂😂😂 this thing is too cool!
"Peace Pipe heap big smoke
Great bike and new name
Pea
Whoever built that had a very intimate understanding of performance engine modification... and the skills to put it together and make it all work
Thanks for watching! Be sure to subscribe to see more content coming up!
Matt I'm really surprised you didn't say I'm taking this for a putt despite the smoke
Dude!!!!!! Drive it video!!!!!!!
Do you guys ever build old bikes on request for customers from the ground up?
Is there any motorsickle you can't resurrect ? I can feel the enthusiasm when you get an old bike like that to fire up. Great stuff.
Your ability to bring these old relics to life so quickly is amazing.
I'd sure like to hear more of the story of how this bike came to be. It has some interesting modifications beyond just being a Harley-Indian hybrid.
I LOVE IT!! when it idled down and just THUMP THUMP THUMP a heart of iron waking up it was happy to be alive again wanting to run and ride.
Every video Matt leaves me in awe of his knowledge of motorcycles. It makes a big difference when you do something you love 👍
That was awesome!! Loved every minute of watching the process of getting the old girl started
What an incredible piece of history, glad it made it to where it belongs (at Wheels Through Time, of course!). Plus I got another instance of what's become my favorite phrase here: "There's only one other in the world" usually followed by Matt pointing across the room and saying something like "and it's right over there" 😂
Too cool! I'd love to hear the history on this bike and see any pictures of back in the day.
My dad told me as a child that all they need is air, fuel, and fire. Then she'll fire off. I'm 39 now and have been a GM dealer mechanic for 19 years, and I will say it's more complex, but the basics haven't changed. It's just harder to figure out why it doesn't have one of the three.
They both failed to mention oil, as the checking and testing later demonstrated.
New engines are easy … I used to be scared of them but they are not that difficult 👍
I would just like to add that if you know you have the air, fuel and fire, then the timing.
like,
Air fuel and fire ya but with out timing we'd be fucked so I think timing should be in there
@Andy L includes plastic/,polyurethane intakes that spilt and warp
Sounds incredible! That will be awesome with some fresh pistons and a little TLC. Glad this bike found it to such great hands!
Loved the sound of the big exhaust. Deep sound. And the single tup,tup,tup...
Thank you for bringing the Half-Breed Harley back to life. Great job.
Awesome. I knew your dad from mtv. Bought a lot of knuckle parts and gained so much knowledge from Dale. R.i.p.😢
What a great addition to your collection!! I can’t wait to get down there again!
That was just amazing. Your knowledge of these old bikes is exceptional Matt. I hope to get over the pond one day soon and check out the museum. 👍👍
As a kid, you must’ve been around your dad alot. It’s so impressive how much knowledge you’ve retained. I’m sure your father would be proud.
Matt, yesterday the family and I were on our way home from a short holiday, and I suggested we stop at Doc's HD in Shawano WI so the kids could see the animals and the wonderful museum Steve has there.

Congratulations on being the winning bid- who better to bring this history to life and widen my knowledge and enjoyment!
Love it. Hearing one crank for the first time in decades is a feeling that no one can describe. Good job, Matt.
How cool was that! You told this bikes story nicely Matt and then to hear it come to life, just awesome. What a treasure. Love watching these old bikes run but to see a frankenstein bike run, is very cool. Would love to hear more about the history of this amazing ride too.
Wow.
I could smell the smoke, feel the vibration and sound.
Amazing and unique bike 80 plus years and built by a master builder.
Thanks guys.
Evening Matt! That's one machine that I'd love to know the reason and history of the original build! That is one unique and interesting machine!
Love your presentation style my friend. No drama, no bs, just passion for teaching us something new. Thank you!
so much to see, I liked your response last year when you said if I was going to be there for 2 days I would see half the collection. You were spot on.
Wheels from Sweden, I absolute love your channel. And your love for especially American motorcycles through times.
In a perfect world you would've got the whole collection. Bikes like this are my favourite kind of bikes. Congratulations.
Can't wait to come see the half breed! Thank for what you all do!
Coming to the museum from the UK is now on my bucket list.
W Polsce również często spotyka się mixy starych motocykli: DKW + Iż, BMW + Ural. W Anglii również popularne były mixy BSA + Truimph (Tribsa) i inne.
Good info 👍
Greetings from NJ. USA.
My favorite is a Dneper side hack with a BMW /2 motor.
Yes it will run and it will take 2 kicks after the prime kicks. Pretty cool old bike. I don't know if I'd give it new rings or not. Maybe soak it in some penetrating oil the old rings may just need to be freed up. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Incredible! Being an old Harley guy, I found this video extremely exciting! WOW!
This is one of the best episodes I've seen from you Matt!! This was awesome.
You are the one and only person on the planet who deserves to own that bike. Love your dedication to the creed.
Loved seeing you get that old bike running!
This video is a perfect example of why your videos are so much fun!
Hi guys, just stumbled on this vid a year later, I don't even quality as a novice but I do love watching these old beauties being brought back to life, my question is, would this bike be a joint effort of makers or a bike lovers project?
Amazing what your doing, thank you for saving these old girls, and more importantly using them❤
Holy crap man!!!!! I was jumping around when she fired up. That IS what its all about. Love it bro.
Thanks!
WOW💥 WOW💥 WOW💥.....What a deal after all these years and fired right up = Amazing....Thanks Matt & Jake 👍
Shoe🇺🇸
Really made me smile when it started up!!! Thank you for the video.
My phone can’t do justice to the sound and I can’t smell through it either but can imagine both till I can make out to see your treasure! Thanks again!!
I love seeing your genuine excitement about this bike. What an awesome machine!
you made my day. your museum is on my list of places to see.. I want to ride my XLCR if I have it put back together.
Awesome find great to see it running.
Watching this, I could not wipe the smile off my face. How cool. Love it.
Good to see an old bike actually up and running, she's a beauty 👍.
Peace out ✌️
I was able to check Off my bucket list this Summer going to the Wheels Through Time museun,What a great place,Full of bikes and history & now a little more! Amazing place for sure!!
Visiting that museum is def on my bucket list provided we are still free to travel.
Your enthusiasm is fun to watch! Very cool find!
That bike is by far the coolest bike in the collection. The knowledge and ingenuity in that machine is what the American spirit was meant to be.
That alone is enough to make a visit when im on my USA road trip next year ........brilliant
that sounds amazing !!!!! was on the edge of my seat watching ...
Very cool guys!!! I definitely like vintage vehicles running for the very first time in decades!!
Been to Savanah several times that bar has quite a few bikes like this one. And you have to stop at poppy's also 😊
Wow! Whatta find! Never thought I would see something like that. I have to say every video of yours I watch, I can see the enthusiasm, the excitement that you and your staff has. Great job!

You sure are your fathers son. Your laugh when that fired up, was pure Dale!
I use to work on old bobbers in the early sixties and that’s music, sweet and fantastic two wheeler.
I always love seeing an old engine fire up for the first time in decades.
My brain can't handle this much excitement!!!! How freakin cool! I must come to the museum this season!
What a rare motorcycle! Congratulations 🎊 on getting it to crank over pretty quickly 😊
This bike is so beautiful. All dimensions and shapes are incredibly perfect. The engine details also say the same thing: this bike was built by a master of speed and design. The sound when it started..... Would love to park it next to my '52 BSA dirt track racer and take it out for races every now and then.
I wish Dale could have been there with you. Congratulations.
Great video. So this is one of Mike Wolfs bikes from American Pickers.. I saw he sold some of his collection.
This is just so cool, it actually sounds so much better than most real Harleys, what a find 👌
That is a great-looking and great-sounding bike. That's great you got it.
Good stuff. Hope to visit this year.
I need to come see you guys. I always really liked watching your Dad on TV and the Apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Super cool bike. One of one.
Its a sound that takes one to the past...very good work, congratulation.
Being a fan of classic Harleys and Indians along with wild cobbled together machines, this is absolutely epic.
Looks like a good ol' scoot. Man, there is so much heavy iron in the doggone thing! I love making old equipment live again. I bet touching the magneto spark when running is BRUTAL!
Awesome first start 👍😮😁
Awesome machine
Can’t wait to see you ride it around the museum 🙏🎉

Frikkin’. Awesome.
I got to get back over and see you guys again soon.
If everything works out I will be there in June, can't wait 👍
Outstanding Matt! It sounds so unique. Oh, I bought one of the big ticket packages for the ‘37 Knuckle. Can’t wait to ride it home! Larry in Fort Worth
That is soooo freaking cool!! Matt your eye for the coolest stuff is unreal!! I love the sound and and the stance!! you gotta race that thing!!!
You know what let me share this little trick bro when you clean that bowl and dry it good take your finger and dip it in a bottle of lucus oil treatment and rub it in the bowl before you put it back. Another awesome bike...I can't wait to see it's first voyage around the property..kinda looks like it might boogie a bit for the age.
Fantastic machine, wonder why the converted the kick start to the left?
Outstanding! Got a live one. Salute to Mike Wolfe
Incredible how it fired so quickly. Beautiful scene

Go baby, go... History again in 3 kicks... Amazing.... One more reason I love the content...
I guessed 5 kicks and man I was right! Awesome bike and it was nice to meet you, Matt.
