    Thanks for this video! I've been insulating my attic myself, and I was looking at other types of insulation. After seeing your video I checked our windows... so many of them have all those gaps you showed! We're probably losing heat like crazy through those gaps. New project for this week - caulk all the window exteriors!

      Been doing stuff like this for a very long time...it's not easy...most people struggle with caulking...but with practice it starts to get easier :)...thanks for watching!

    I've been dealing with that caught gun for years at least 10 years not more and it seems that 80% of the time when you buy a brand new one it has no pressure to it but every once in a while you get a good one and yeah it's very nice when works right right

      Hi Ryan, if u spend a little more on the caulk gun it will be worth every penny...a person simply cannot do a professional looking caulk job with a junk tool...thanks for your comment and watching!

    Thanx 4 this! I have a new tiny house and I noted that the triple window in the back needs caulking...there is some older caulking on the windows...I'm thinking the windows may be older than build..dont know..but I think I can do it myself after watching this!

      Hello Lipstick Lodge, definitely remove as much of the old caulk as u can before appling new, makes for a better job, thanks for the info about the black flies! My experiences with those flies have been in the UP of Michigan along the Lake Superior shoreline. Ferocious little biters...had an old timer call them Sable flies. Enjoy ur tiny home :)

      @bigred777666 hello, brand name is " Dripless", best I have used, makes a huge difference to how the caulk job turns out

    thanks for the video!I had new window installed and they didn't caulk all the windows on. the top? they said it to keep moisture out? im very confused so what is up with that? they only caulked about 5 in from the corner. any thoughts?

      If I were u I would call another window store and see what they say. Some installers will cut corners, the good ones will not. Also, sometimes to completely caulk the window correctly is an addional cost with some companies. I would think u want a tight airtight fit. To add to the frustration all windows are not built the same. Best thing to do is research and call around...let me know what u find out if u don't mind.

    One of my basement windows is leaking. The exterior caulk looks ok to me. But the mortar between the metal flashing piece and brick seems to have worn away. Can you caulk between the brick and the metal flashing above the window or should that only be mortar in that space?

    • @laffilmfest3759
      @laffilmfest3759  3 роки тому

      DrTrollz i really don't know, a leak can be a very strange thing, if it were mine i would caulk the joint really good and see what happens. Caulking should hold ok.....question is ....is that where the water is coming from? By process of elimination u can fix one area at a time, if u try too many areas at once u may not still know where the water is leaking from......clear as mud i know :)......i do hope this helps some....

      If the opening is above the flashing and between the flashing and the brick above DO NOT caulk it
      If the flashing is installed correctly this space is to let the water that gets behind the brick out. If you caulk it it will create more problems. I am a professional caulker and waterproofer for over 40 years

      If you can wipe the caulking from your fingers with a damp rag, you are using absolutely the wrong caulk. Latex should NEVER be used on the exterior for ANYTHING more than superficial cosmetic purposes. Generally speaking it should be silicone or polyurethane.

    Can bugs get into the house through the weep holes? (Asking for window weep holes and foundation weep holes)

    • @laffilmfest3759
      @laffilmfest3759  Рік тому +1

      I'm going to say no on the window weep holes...inspectors would be all over that if it was happening....now foundation weep holes may be a little more open to bug traffic. Seems to me foundation weep holes were used many years ago...the modern good quality homes these days have crawl spaces that are climate controlled reducing any water or mold build up...u might confirm both good questions with a window replacement store and a concrete contractor in ur area...thanks for the input and coming by !

      @@laffilmfest3759 absolutely wrong. This is one of the reasons a lot of manufacturers have started installing open cell foam n and behind the weep holes.

      Oh I have black flies up here...and I can't even open my windows when they r out as they DO get into those weep holes...I had to clean a ton of them out last summer.
