  • Assembling old school through-the-hole PCB for Altera EPM7128SLC84 CPLD. A quick demo of what it may be used for and how it is programmed. At one point in Video I say Atmel, but of course I mean Altera.
    Link to the board: oshpark.com/shared_projects/j...
Sample test code for the board github.com/arturs-lab/cpld-he...
Components sourced mainly from my spares drawer. The rest from Ebay LM317, 120Ohm resistor and 1K trimpot are optional and only needed if you're going to run IO pins at 3.3V. If you'll be using this board in 5V circuit there's no need for them.
The PCB has all the values silkscreened.
    7805 5V regulator in TO220 package
LM317 adjustable voltage regulator in TO220 package
ALTERA EPM7128SLC84 CPLD chip in PLCC-84 package. EPM7160 can also be used. It has higher macrocell count but fewer usable pins.
    PLCC socket, 84pin
    Oscillator in DIL14 package
    100nF decoupling capacitors 3pcs
some electrolytic capacitors, whatever you have close to indication on the board, 2.5mm package
120 ohm resistor and 1K trimpot for 3.3V circuit
    LEDs, 3mm, 2pcs
200 - 330 ohm resistors for LED current limiting, 2pcs
    header pins

Hm, not sure ... rather real old school shouldn't use any programmable devices at all to implement hardware functions.

    50:45 - it's Altera, not Atmel!

I don't see the link for the board
