    • @solarnaut
      @solarnaut Рік тому +3

      INDEED ! "domino effect" and/or unforeseen "cascading" problems can be catastrophic. Airline safety is said to be a prime example of "anti-fragile" - each failure making "the system" stronger/ better/ safer. There are no mistakes, only lessons... the mistake is in not heeding the lessons! B-)

      Due to our states leaders incompetence. The static spillway almost having a catastrophic failure is due to them never completing final construction. No engineer in their right mind would design a spillway to drop the water right onto the bedrock that serves as its foundation! Water in motion is one of the most powerful and destructive forces in nature. We got to see it in action and at less then 10% of its rated capacity it almost failed

Seeking some more detailed news about the main spillway failure back in early 2017 I fortunately stumbled across your channel and it turned out to be the best source of information by far. Instant subscribe, followed the story almost from day 1, learned so much from your citizen journalist reporting. I fondly remember the plunge pool, Croyle Canyon, RCC, the Thermalito Afterbay - and who could forget the wonders of the secant cut-off wall!
    During the first few months of 2018 I vacationed on a round the world journey and caught up with all your reports in some very exotic locations. So good to get this update and be able to see the results of the reconstruction, and also to see how much the channel has grown since those early days.

    Excellent job of reporting, as always! Hard to believe it's been that long since the failure of the spillway. Thanks for all these years of reporting, Juan. You're a model that many should follow. Loved listening to your commentary on the drone shots. Got all nostalgic for the days of the rebuild. :)

    Incredibly spectacular! This is almost like watching mythology being created. I wonder if the planners knew that dam would make so much history in so short a time. Nice to see the water and snow back, hope the flooding downstream isn't too bad, but I guess levees are already giving out, so there's that...

    Thanks for the update, Juan.
    Your ability to provide clear and concise information is amazing, and what originally drew me to your channel.
    You gather facts, speak eloquently of what you know, and point out what you do not know.
    This has brought you a well-deserved following, that reflexively checks to see what you have to say.
    And we are never disappointed.

    Crazy that much time has passed! That was the very beginning of my love affair with aviation, and I didn't even know you were a pilot at that point in time!! You can imagine how excited I was when the Luscombe came out for the aerial footage of the dam situation! Then the dirt bikes and motorcycles came out - what are the odds this guy has the exact same interests I do, lol! Great to see the man behind that AWESOME bass riff at the end there, too! Goosebump city, all from a bass guitar! Impressive stuff! Everything just came together in '17, and here we are with you nudging FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND subs!! Been a hell of a ride, Juan!! 🤘😬🤘 😜🍻

    I am a bass player and aviator. Your channel introduced me to Aram and his music. I remember the first time I saw the video on weightless and saw it was only bass. Completely blew me away. I am still working out his setup that produces the remarkable and amazing sound that is his music. Thanks for the outro clip of him performing.

    Out of curiosity I looked up Oroville vs Table Rock Lake…Nearly the same acre-feet…Table Rock is about three times the surface area…but it appears the 72,000 record CFS is about a third of the highest Oroville CFS. I’ve been at the Hatchery below when they were doing pretty close to that record…and at a pretty close 600-ish feet away, it’s a VERY impressive sound and feel. Can’t imagine what 3x that would be like.

    Amazing screen shot at 2:23. I can't quit staring at it, with the perfect lighting and all. Awesome job of landscaping and re-shaping all those areas that were torn up. I especially like the rocky stream bed leading down off the Emergency spillway. Is that all going to be public park land? Certainly looks like it is meant to be enjoyed up close.

    My mom was driving on the day it busted and could see the breaking apart happen. I live down south in Orange County and you kept me updated and helped me worry less about my mom being up there. I was up visiting her a couple weeks before the Paradise fire and had a premonition of what was to come. I looked around at how dry it was up there and kept wondering how anyone would make it out of the area if a fire should happen and then two weeks later had to watch the whole thing unfold on the news

    Wonderfully informative and explained video yet again Juan. Even for me five and a half thousand miles away in the middle of England. So many people, not just in California, the USA, Europe or anywhere else around the world know or understand just what has to happen before they get to turn on a tap (sorry, fawcet) or flick a switch to turn a light on? We all take so much for granted.
