this video was invaluable to me. thank you! I have a forester boat w/ omc cobra 5.0 and the trim motor wasn't working (only relay clicking from control) .... turns out the trim motor had an inch of water in it when I opened it up! no wonder it was shorting out.... I cleaned all of the inside and replaced springs behind the brushes, as they were rusted out too.... commutator was black as you described and I cleaned it with emory cloth.... cleaned everything as well as I could... anyway your video saved me throughout the process so thank you!

I have an old trim motor on an evinrude 4 cyl. engine,I believe they are 1986 or there abouts.I'm trying to bypass the switch and was wondering if you could tell me witch of the three wires is the hot one,Red,Black or Green? thank you

You're showing a motor that has provision for relatively easy installation of the brush housing. Some of them are absolute bastards. I was hoping to see a demonstration of installing one of the difficult ones. Incidentally, many of the replacement trim motors come complete with a new reservoir pre-assembled so you only have to screw on the valve body. It's the only practical way for an amateur to do the job.

I have a 1978 Sea Ray SRV200 and the guy I bought it from said that you may have to tap on the motor to get it to work.... I can't even find the damn thing! Could you number one tell me to find it on the boat and if this unit you show here will work for this boat? It is the V8 Merc thanks in advance for any help! Tommy
