Borsellino Carpentry is a construction company located in Upstate New York. I specialize in small residential remodeling jobs. This channel is dedicated to teaching other contractors, carpenters, small business owners, DIYers, weekend warriors and anyone else who just wants to learn a little bit about home improvement. The full name of the company is actually Borsellino Carpentry & Home Repair, LLC but that is just too much of a mouthful! I also do tool reviews, business tips and other contractor related videos on this channel. In the wintertime I even do snow plowing videos. I try to mix it up and show all the parts of the contracting job, not just the glorious finished product. Please leave me a comment and let me know if there's any specific topics or jobs you'd like me to cover. Thanks for watching! 👋😃

I am a new Carpenter and I really do appreciate the Stanley power lock the only gripe I have with it are whenever you throw it out and go long distances it tends to bind up but other than that I love it I love how the body is a flat 3 inches and not some weird 3-1/2 inches

Welcome to carpentry!!! You deserve a medal! 🏅 If you stick with it you can do really well because not a lot of people are getting into the trades and as older guys get out there will be A LOT of work for you. There's already way more work than all the contractors in my area can handle. Everyone is super busy all the time

Good video. I always thought anyone who used a "fat max" was only looking for prestige anyway. Cause it costs more. I know because I used to be one of em lol. Old school Stanley is the way to go

I have had both. I like the Fat Max best. But as you say the smaller one is not as heavy and less bulky to carry. I think each has it place. By-the-way, it is nice to see you back in your element.

The fatmax certainly would be better for framing and heavy duty jobs. For little carpentry jobs I like the powerlock. As you said, they each have their place. 😃

I really like the PowerLock2, the yellow ones. For some reason I just like the plastic body on those more than the silver ones, and right now, I'm on my last of three that I "hoarded" purchased 12 years ago, and I can't find them anymore. I think I'll try the plain PowerLock. I was debating on the FatMax, but I think in the end, it's weight, I know it's not much more, but it IS more, and carrying it around all day it adds up to me leaning to the right ;-)
    Great Job. Thanks

Oh man I hate it when a company changes something that I love! Hopefully you can adjust to the new version. The only yellow ones I can think of are the style my dad uses where it's automatically locked and there's a black lever built in on the underside that you depress to let the tape back in

My two cents..my dad was a carpenter and carried a power lock, but mostly used a carpenters rule. I love them for the nostalgia, but as a commercial plumber, I have to use a fatmax basically. If you have nice, flat boards you can use the power, just hook it on the edge and go to town. Also good on floors. If you are a plumber, electrician, etc...you need it to not snap down while trying to snag pipe, all thread, strut, conduit, etc. Also half of the guys extend them out and use them as pointers up in the ceiling explaining things to others. My last I got a magnet by mistake and I hate it. Sticks to my lift when I'm trying to send it down to the floor to measure elevation. Electricians love them though. They stick them on boxes, metal studs, etc.

Yeah I can definitely see what a lot of guys would like them. Framing carpenters too. Just for the stiffness factor. If it wasn't so bulky and heavy I would probably use it but now I own one and I still never find myself picking it up when the other is available... it's all about the right tool for the job at hand.

Nice review. I use the fatmax since I'm a Tin Knocker and it has a magnet. Pretty self explanatory haha

    • @BorsellinoHomeServices

Oh nice. I've found the magnet more of a hindrance than a help the times that I've used it LOL. But I do like the extended reach it has

The HF Bauer tapes are surprisingly great. They don’t have the standout of the fat max but the increments are the same in 16ths. Overall build quality of the Bauer tapes is great and they have a finger break. Highly recommended them if you don’t need the stand out also they are about $7 & the 25Ft is super small compared to the large Fatmax

I like the old metal body powerlock 2's. I do have an old fatmax I've been working with for the last 9 years, still works great, I remodel for a living and I would recommend either; that said - dont drop em in water buckets... Lot of the younger guys who don't give a crap about the tools do that often when we're tiling.. I'm beginning to think they just want a new one every year 🙄 🤨

    • @BorsellinoHomeServices
      @BorsellinoHomeServices  2 роки тому +1

They are both great tapes the fatmax is definitely way more heavy duty so if you need the extra durability it is the way to go. For me, I'm more of a finish carpenter so the lighter and easier to use the better. yeah I imagine if you drop in a water bucket it just rusts out the tape and the internals.

The FATMAX costs near 3 times as much as the powerlock.
I am happy with the powerlock

The regular fatmax 25 no magnet is great, the powerlock feels flimsy now in comparison and ive been using em for about 5 years.

I wish there was something in the middle. The powerlock does feel wimpy after using the fatmax but the fatmax is way overkill for me

My favorite is still the Powerlock. I just can't get used to how big and bulky the fatmax is. But I'm also a smaller dude. Iff you are a big rough and tough guy, the fatmax is good.

Lufkin shockforce by crecent(black/green edition) has been pretty good for me recently, I'll have a fatmax in my truck on standby if needed

I like the PowerLock for finish work and I like the FatMax for rough framing. I know they can be used for both interchangeably but that's what I prefer.

oh no! I don't like the fat max. I carry it in my truck and every time I use it I end up frustrated with it for some reason. I think the magnet is more annoying than it is useful

Power lock works the smoothest, and is the lightest. It retracts fast and feels good in your hand. at my job we also call them the “real tape”. Throw that bulky goofy fat max out and get yourself a real tape!
