Hello Omar. I think it would be really interesting if you and Sam/any other perfumer did a ‘How I would make this better’ series. Essentially take some popular fragrances with big flaws and explain how you would fix it if you were a perfumer. For example, how you would make YSL Myself less boring, or how you would make Oud for Greatness more wearable. I respect your content, keep up the good work.
He’s concerned because the man’s taste is weird AF. Omar has way better sense of taste than this so called perfumer. Hope his creations aren’t following the same woefully bad form as on this video and several other videos(can’t find one where i agree with him). Unless of course he is really trying to cater to and tap into that 1 in 10 oddball market. Before anoyone chimes in with the cliche talking point that fragrance taste is subjective, sure, what you like to wear is entirely up to you but not quite as subjective as you think and if you present as a perfumer and or a fragrance influencer then your taste cannot be subjective it MUST tilt on the side of objective otherwise you have chosen the wrong profession. Broadly speaking fragrance taste is NOT subjective otherwise we would not get 9/10 rated fragrances. By definition for a fragrance to be rated that high the vast majority agree that it is very good. On average most people would agree what fragrances go into the good category so so and bad caregory. Now of course you can be forgiven for breaking from the pack every now and then and there is nothing wrong with that. To be clear there is nothing wrong with any choice, your personal taste is entirely your choice, but the fact remains most people’s sense of what smells good or doesn’t converge greatly. Where we might find disagreement is in how good or how bad a fragrance is. For example i might rate a fragrance a 9 and someone else an 8, not a huge difference and one could say we both agree that it is at the very least very good. But if time and time again you rate fragrances a 2 or a 3 when on average people rate it a 9 then there is either something really off with your nose(oddball taste) or you are purposely being a contrarian. Methinks there is a bit of both with this guy. He knows perfectly well that his choices are controversial and appears to gleefully not care about that. If you are a nobody then who cares but if you are a perfumer or fragrance influencer then we have a problem on our hands.
@@Crypt0n1an But subjectivity lies on a spectrum though, so fragrance opinions are _entirely_ subjective. Also, factor in if the video is sponsored, the fragrances are donated or the fragtuber stands to earn from discount codes. For e.g. I tend to think many of the fragrances considered "masterpieces", I tend to find average-smelling or overhyped which does not mean it is awful. Just because the consensus thinks it is a masterpiece does not mean that it is. For example, Layton is considered a masterpiece by many fragtubers and customers alike but I think it is overhyped and is a 5. That still does not make it a masterpiece just because I am in the perceived minority. But a masterpiece rating generally hovers between the 9.5-10 range and for those types of fragrances I am constantly underwhelmed. However, the more polazrizing and challenging scents tends to fare better from my experience opinion-wise. The only exception are blue fragrances or "freshies" whose scent profiles are universally appealing scents that ppl tend to smell in many daily products that they use such as soaps and shampoos so it's hard to dislike.
@@o̸ණ By definition if the consensus thinks it is a masterpiece then it most likely is. Now you might argue that it is better left to professional noses to decide what is a masterpiece and what is not. But who are those professional noses? Perfumers perfume critics or you tube influencers? Bottom line is that for someone to gain a good reputation as any of those they would have to offer opinions that eventually most people agree on and as such a perfume "expert" at the end of the day is just a high brow proxy for what most people tend to like or if they really know what they are doing they will have a knack for picking winners time and time again. That is the name of the game after all. I say tend to like because as I outlined above where we might differ is in the details and the degree to which we like or dislike a fragrance. We can also differ on our individual leanings sweet vs bitter, a particular style we are into, how our experiences can shape our taste etc. However at the end of the day it is most likely the case that genetics mostly predisposes us to what we generally like and generally don't like and because we all belong to the same species, surprise surprise, we will mostly agree. Like I said, the lower the resolution(good vs bad categories) then we will mostly agree. However once we increase the resolution then we will start to disagree more and more. I find that I diverge the most with nearly all so called influencers once we reach the highest resolution. An example would be tier lists. I would be lucky if I agree with one or two of their picks for the S category but find that I mostly agree with things put a C or lower or above a C(ie what goes into the top half and what into the bottom half). I don't think you properly understand the concepts involved here, fragrance taste is NOT entirely subjective, end of story. You could say there is an amount of subjectivity to it but it is for all intents and purposes more objective than subjective. Note that when I say taste i don’t mean whether you are into a particular style of fragrance, i am simply referring to what one puts in the like or dislike category or like neutral and dislike categories or simply how one rates a fragrance. So if I’m into citrus fragrances and you are into gourmands that doesn’t mean we have different taste in the narrow way I am using the word though technically speaking our taste differs in that regard. There are infinite ways we can try to find differences in how we engage with appreciate and value fragrances, i am not referring to any of that. I am just talking about how you would rate a fragrance vs how I would vs how anyone else would and in that regard there is a great deal of convergence. Keep in mind that there are very few fragrances that are truly objectively god awful and the truth is that 90% of people probably own or would own a fragrance that is rated a 3 or higher on fragrantica. This means that effectively people are engaging with almost entirely the top third of fragrances and quible and argue about which of those are collection worthy and which aren’t but that is only because most people only want 8s 9s and 10s in their collection. PS: Of course there will be outliers and there is nothing wrong with that, to each their own. I am not attacking people for straying from the pack or for the quirks in their personal taste, what I am attacking are people who fancy themselves as influencers or perfumers but are extreme outliers in their sense of taste. They have obviously chosen the wrong profession or are pathological contrarians or are applying their urge to be unique and stand out in entirely the wrong way with a profession that has very little room for that. If you are a perfumer or fragrance house the name of the game is to produce something that people like and buy in great numbers. By definition you are always pushing for that consensus.

From a perfumer, I'd expect the ratings to be objective, I'd expect he would be rating quality, etc… For this type of interview, I can stop a 15 year old girl on the street to get a "3/10 I don't like it" kind of rating. please stop crying about a bit, it's truly not that deep
Yeah!! I don't like that guy either!! What a bandit!!
@@XerjoffGuy be quiet Xjoffguy. You have no right to be one to talk. Get a life man, youre doing this for over two months and ruining the interaction of the comment section with your meaningless and childish demand. Half of the comment section is about Xerjoff whether good or bad. Get a hint, the guy is not interested. Don't be a cheapskate and go get a sampling set yourself and be the best of reviewers yourself

Honestly, who likes this guest? When I see him on the video I just get a sense of pessimism from him.
How is he a perfumer when he doesn't about the perfumes in the industry? Doesn't make sense at all
Giving something 3/10 just because you don't personally like the scent is pretty weird. From a perfumer, I'd expect the ratings to be objective, I'd expect he would be rating quality, etc… For this type of interview, I can stop a 15 year old girl on the street to get a "3/10 I don't like it" kind of rating. Just a thought.
He doesnt have to be objective, he said it is based on HIS OWN preference lmao
@@demirkazanasmaz6097 I know but why should I care about his personal opinion? He doesn't have to invite perfumers then if it's about personal opinions whether you like something or not
Once I seen 2.5/10 for imagination immediately stopped watching
2 virgins
Bro, your videos get 21 views, and you have a creepy goatee
@@SchoolOfScent 😂😂
Not this bozo again 😂😂😂
Wondering what sort of perfumer is he ? Barely can detect stuff inside, hopefully he doesn't release anything as the most loved and highly rated fragrances are no good to him 😂 probably he designs toilet fresheners for 2* hotels😂😂😂
You do understand that in a blind smelling it isn't the worlds easiest task to pick up on specific notes, especially when your job isn't to go around smelling every other fragrance out there but to instead create them. "Barely can detect stuff inside" is also such an idiotic thing to say when you just watched him list multiple aroma chemicals from the fragrances he's smelled here.
@@gary0111 he is parfumer not reviewer, keep that difference in your head, what a stupid thing to say
@@gary0111 you cooked that idiot
