What a wealth of wisdom, thank you Dr. B for equipping and empowering parents with the knowledge to care for their children with confidence! Thank you!
My son was just born a few days ago, the doctors used a section device help get him out during pregnancy so his head is slightly elongated instead of being flat how should we round his head more without hurting him?
Thank you for watching this video. I have a separate video that talks about activities to do to help a baby learn to walk that you may find helpful: ua-cam.com/video/f4qA_EgEPac/v-deo.html
I encourage you to do the exercises that I mention in the video. Since your baby is only four months old, you have the opportunity to improve the flat head.
Thank you for watching. It takes months of consistency with changing up the baby’s head position to see change. It usually happens quicker for younger babies, and takes longer for older babies.
My son is 5 months old. He has flat head on the back. Please help. My relatives say that the head could have been corrected in the first three months. Am worried.
Thank you for watching this video. Your son's head shape still can improve, especially since he is younger than 6 months. Do the best you can and be intentional in preventing him from spending much time laying on the flat spot of his head. Rotate his head position when he's laying down, and during the day try to have him laying on his tummy or in a seated position, to give the head shape more opportunities to improve.
If the baby already has flats spot, do I need to keep changing the sleeping position or I can have the baby sleep on the other side which is not flat till the flat spot disappear? My baby is 5 months 10 days. Kindly respond
Yes your thought process is correct. Try to have the baby spend less time laying on the flat spot and more on the side that’s not flat when laying down.
Good day doc, my baby just turned 7 months old his right side has a flat spot..i tried to do tummy time and other options but it doesn't turn into a round shape ..what should i do i hope you read this. Thank you.
Karen thank you for watching this video. Since your baby is 7 months old, there is still opportunity of the flat spot to improve. It takes time for noticeable changes to take place. The best thing to do moving forward is to continue to do everything you can to avoid your baby putting pressure to the flat spot of the head. You can achieve this by rotating the baby's head position and keeping the baby on the tummy or sitting as much as possible during awake hours.
Hi Dr., my baby is 8 months old and has a small flat spot on the back of his head, our pediatrician says there isnt anything to worry about and it would resolve itself but im still worried. Since last two weeks my baby has been sleeping on side and im turning his head away from the flat spot…during the day mostly he is active and trying to crawl…hardly stays on his back…but im not noticing much of a difference yet, what else can i do?
Thank you for watching the video. It will take some time for you to see much of a difference. Sounds like you’re doing the right things by minimizing the amount of time the baby puts pressure on that spot. Just give it more time.
Hello doc, I'm from Philippines. I'm very very guilty about my baby at 1 month he has a very flat head in his right side we try to turn it when he sleep but it always turn back that's it's still flat and in 3 months I watch a lot of videos about how to correct flat head I also buy pillow like a donut, I always carry him wen he wake up and tummy time.. But I'm still worried because his 6 months old now but, still flat.. Is there really chance to bring it back to normal? Because I lost hope cause his pedia says it's really hard to bring it back huhuhu I'm so worried ☹️
Kriza thank you for watching my video. The skull is going to grow and change. It won’t be as dramatic as in the first several months, but it can still have some improvement. Continue to do your best to minimize the time your baby spends on the flat spot.
Hello sis, same case sa baby ko. 6months na siya now pero hindi nagiimprove ung flat spot niya. Hindi kasi siya nakakatagal sa tummy time. Musta na baby mo sis? Nacorrect din ba? Ano ginawa mo sis?
Tje only way to bring it back to round is probably a helmet or something that can reshape it. My mom's friends grandbaby had to get one because he has a flat head. His parents were drug addicts who left him laying in bed all day.
When can we assume that our baby will no longer be risking of developing a flat spot? Is there a risk until her first birthday? Thanks for all your great content!
Thank you for your feedback. The first 6 months is when the baby has the most risk, because of spending more time on the back. But once babies start sitting, crawling, rolling onto their tummies, it's unlikely that a flat spot will develop.
If I notice a flat spot at 5 months, how long will it take baby’s bead to round out if we do the remedies you mentioned? When is it too late or when does baby’s skull “harden”
If you follow the activities I mention in the video and decrease the amount of time that your baby lays on the flat spot of the head, it will get round.
My 6 month old is almost 7 months and has a flat head. I keep him in a bumbo chair upright for a few hours a day but when he sleeps he doesn't sleep on his side at all. And if i try he will either wake up and roll completely over or go back to his back. Not sure what to do because when he hits 11 months, hes getting surgery for craniosynostasis (probably spelled that wrong off the top of my head.) And they'll need that back skull to place on the front
It sounds to me like you’re doing the best you can to avoid having your baby put pressure on the flat spot. After the surgery they will instruct you on what else can be done to help with his head shape.
At 7 months of age it’s still not too late. Try to do as many activities during the day that don’t require your baby to have any pressure placed onto his head. When he’s laying down, change the position of the head often. Change up the side of the head onto which you put the baby down to sleep.
@@ιασηση sometimes it seems tough to find a doctor that you really connect with. I encourage you to ask your friends and other people with kids that you meet about their pediatrician, and if they recommend them. You are still in a window of opportunity to improve the baby’s flat spot.
Dear Doctor, thanks for the video. I have a question about the red spot on the back of his head at the age of 1,5 months. The size of the spot is appropriately 2-3 cm in diameter. Can you pls tell what is it and should any actions be taken against it? Thank you)
Aida it is common for babies to have these types of marks. They occur from small blood vessels being closer to the surface of the skin, so they are more visible. But as the baby gets older, should fade away. No action needs to be taken to do anything with them. The only cause for concern would be if the area of redness starts to get bigger.
Your info wasn’t complete, for baby flat head they have helmet and you can recommend viewers to ask their doctor. Baby who has weak muscles in one side neck by these small practices won’t fix.
Thank you for watching this video. Your baby's head shape still has an opportunity to change. Head pillows are not recommended for babies as they can be suffocation risks. It's better to do everything you can to keep the baby from putting pressure on the flat part of the head. Alternate the position of the baby's head when the baby is laying down, and try to have the baby sitting up or on the tummy as much as you can during the day.
