I tried experimenting with Drift a couple of times and had no success. Your video inspired me, thanks for that. I didn't even understand the effect of the "Drift" parameter😅
Good stuff. Love Drift, and one of the reasons I love it is the really nice Push UI. All of the Ableton synths work well with Push, of course…but it feels like they have really put some additional time and thought into the Push UI of the newer synths (like Drift). With Drift (as well as Meld, and a couple others), you have a UI for your synth that is pretty comparable to, say, a Hydrasynth (eight knobs mapped in sections that can be switched between with a button tap). 😁
Wow, fantastic walkthrough. I have always been a bit put off by the learning curve of drift and I end up going to the ol' faithful wavetable. I feel better equipped to tackle this beast now. I think I will slap a load of echo and reverb on it and create some interesting growls and textures.
”Best” or ”most versatile” aside, I think it’s the best-sounding synth in Live, altho it certainly doesn’t lack competition! (edit: I’m not a native english speaker, but I get the feeling ”lacks” is a little clunky in that sentence. Does ”it certainly has competition” feel more natural to your ears? Comments welcome!)
"It certainly doesn't lack competition" doesn't sound clunky at all. It's a more advanced way of saying "It certainly has competiton" which, granted, is more "to the point", but also more basic. Sounds like you've got a good grasp of English to me ;)
Haven't paid much attention to Drift so far. Will do so for sure after watching your video. One thing I'd like to see is how to create more useful sounds with Drift (like you did with the Pad sound). The other examples are good see the more crazy side, but I never feel they're really useful. So I'd really like to see a little tutorial on how to create some nice lead, bass, etc. using Drift.
For sure I can do some videos like that! In the meantime, here's a video I did on designing MPE presets with Drift that you might find useful. :) ua-cam.com/video/70ci1wCU6V8/v-deo.html
Drift is simple but not simplistic and its pretty much my go to synth now. If i need something more experimental i go to meld or wavetable. For electronic music, if you were to begin now, no need for third party software.
Vital and Surge XT are both fantastic synths too! All three are really different, I just wanted to showcase some of the cool things you can do with Drift in this video. :)

It's a really great synth, I'm glad that this video was able to inspire you to try it out! 😁
What a great walkthrough, good pace and easy to understand, definitely inspired me to take a deeper look this weekend and start making some patches :)
I'm super glad it was useful and inspirational for you! Thanks for watching and for commenting. 😊

Yeah the Push integration with all of the synths is really fantastic! 😁

@ Thanks for taking the time to reply, good to hear that I’m wrong! :-)
It's a great sounding synth! :D
And yep, perfectly fine English to me. Both ways of saying it get your point across. :)
@@matttinklermusic Thank you, much appreciated!
The best is Operator, hands down. But you made this feel good. Gonna give it a try now.
Operator is wicked! It's a real shame that it's only included with Suite, as a lot of people don't have access to it because of that.
@@matttinklermusictrue, otoh, EUR 79 / USD 99 is a fair price for such a versatile softsynth.

Basically the only 2 synths I use are Drift and Wavetable. With those 2 you can cover basically everything you might need for most electronic music!
Is it better than bitwigs Polymer?
I haven't experimented enough with Polymer to be able to comment!
You can convert polymer to poly grid and make any sound...
Yes, closely followed by Operator 😛
100%!!
Or just use amazing free synths like vital or surge xt
