With the THR you don't get a full EQ for the Bluetooth functionality. I believe there is a flat EQ or bass boosted option. I'm not sure this would be the best option for a Vinyl player. I would look into getting a phono preamp, power amp and speakers for a nice vinyl turntable.

Hi Drew. I just got the THR30ii and absolutely love it, one of the best sounding small amps I've ever heard. However, I'm not having such great luck when trying to record with it. I downloaded the latest audio drivers from the THR30ii page, and installed Reaper, of which I haven't used in years - just getting back into guitar after a 5 year break. I notice when I record with it, the input levels are very low, though I have the USB out turned up very high in the Yamaha app. I noticed the recorded guitar tone sounds very thin and not very "present", like it's sort of in the background. Also, when I render the tracks, the output volume is very low, I have to crank it way up. I'm also noticing some crackling sounds occasionally, as it's monitoring the recording. I don't think anything is wrong with the amp, because everything else is working flawlessly. Is there something that a noob like me should be checking on? Thank you for any assistance you may be able to provide. I'm very new to recording, so I have a feeling I have something setup wrong. Also, I made sure to get the inputs to about 3/4 way showing, and I'm trying to record the wet signal directly, without applying any effects. Thank you kindly.
@@seanthebean2 It was noob error, lol. I was mistakenly recording in stereo if I recall correctly, effectively cutting the volume in half. I don't think it's been an issue since, but I do tend to go through an audio interface most of time, so I'm not really sure.
Hey there, thanks for your comment. I've only recorded with the THR a couple times with Cubase LE. I don't have any experience with Reaper, but I hear it works well. My suggestion would be to try using the free version of Cubase that came in the box with your THR. They may work better together. I think it's worth a try. Otherwise, I think for the best results an interface with an SM57 is a tried and true method, even if you're recording a small amp like the THR, you can isolate the amp with blankets or sound proofing material. Best of luck and thanks for watching 🤘
I know in GarageBand, a lot of people make the mistake of choosing the "guitar" input, which routes your guitar through the built-in amp modelers. Choosing the mic input allows you to get sounds from your THR.
Whenever I record my bass using this amp, the sound ends up completely different than the one I hear. Is it because i'm recording with a Mono instrument cable instead of a stereo one? I plugged the THR with a midi cable and into my laptop for audacity.
@@DrewCreal Thanks for the feedback! Your tip contributed on my personal research and I found out that I didn't install the yamaha thrii driver on my desktop. Everything works now :)
Nicely done. Might be time to get rid of the pedal board and amp, downsize, and give the wife and neighbors a break. BTW, awesome Carvin. I had them build me one and I couldn't be more pleased.
The Yamaha thr10 has become my main home amp. Sold my Classic 50 tube amp and packed my pedal board away, and I don’t miss either. More than happy with this little box for home use.
Kiesel/Carvins are great! I'm hoping to order a new one soon. Check out my video where I'm messing around with their virtual builder, fun stuff! ua-cam.com/video/a1D5N-tKs2E/v-deo.html
Does anyone know how to use user memory button without remote app on thr10ii wls? I tried switching clean, lead, high-gain etc. knub consecutively, but i cannot hear anything!
Have you tried using the 5 preset buttons on the top of the amp to save your tones? That's probably the best way to change sounds on the fly. There are also several Bluetooth controller devices that you can use as well, like the XSonic Airstep YT.
You can plug the Yamaha THR30W into a mixer and then you can get an XSonic AirStep to control the presets if you're interested in controlling the amp with your feet!
I don't think this is possible with the THR, but is there a way you can record both the guitar AND the output coming from PC sound card? No matter what way I wire or set Input/Output devices it only records the actualy guitar signal, and not the signal coming from the PC INTO the THR's AUX input...
Thanks for the Video. Nice playing also. I have a few questions if you don't mind. The difference between the 10 and 30, just more volume or is there other things to it. Also, these compared to the Spark. Thanks so much again.
With the THR30ii you get stereo 1/4" outs on the back. So, you can use this amp in a live situation which is really cool. There are also a few companies that make a bluetooth channel changer which is sweet. I have not had a chance to play the spark yet, but in general, I'm not a fan of Bias products.
The 30 also has a rechargeable battery and a built in wireless receiver and I believe you have to use the line 6 wireless transmitter. The 10 has the same amps and tone setting as the 30 but the ones on the 30 can be switched on the amp and the on the 10 you have to use the app to switch between the various amp models. The original thr10 had 3 models and the Thr 2 has all three. I used to have the spark but I returned it. To me the Yamaha sounds like a real amp and the spark sounded like a plug in.
Looks like I'm playing Gsus4 moving some notes around on the B string, then moving the same notes around within the C2 chord. Hope that helps 👍thanks for watching
You can use the amp the way that you described here. It could be a temporary solution to record guitar and vocals, but I probably would get an interface at some point for the best possible results.
Hi, great video! I was wondering if anyone knows how this amp responds to guitar pedals? - looking to get one, but might be a deal breaker if it doesn't work well with my pedals. Thanks!
That may actually be my next video on this amp, thanks for your question. There's a few different ways that you can use pedals with this amp and I'm looking forward to seeing how it sounds.
nice video, thank you. At arroud the 2 min mark you are using a fairly nice clean sound, in the video it seems that you have set gain to max. could you please share the settings for clean with us, this is whre I struggle a bit - thank you in advance
For this amp, where the gain, or any knob is makes no difference for the presets. If you touch the knob after selecting the preset then you turn it on and can change the sound
Hi, a question I have is playing music from your paired phone. I connected to Bluetooth and then to the app, but music still comes from my iPhone. Thank you for your time!
Double check and make sure you are connected. Make sure no other devices are connected to the amp. If that doesn't work, "forget device (THR)" and try establishing a new connection.
@@DrewCreal Thanks! For me the fix was realizing that there are two bluetooth names for the THR. One is for the app and one is for the actual amp too. That cleared a lot of confusion for me!
I can not make connection with the amp and smartphone. Do not know why? Green light is solid but no interaction with the knob images and the amp. Symbol is flashing in my phone.
Just got mine and I have the same problem, gonna update the amp maybe that helps. It that doesn't work I'll most likely end up just connecting it directly to my laptop
I also managed to make some activity between. Sometimes the connection has difficulties to build up and takes more than one hour or can not be built at all (can not wait longer).
@@DrewCreal Just wondering, how would it sound if you were running a backing track and playing with overdrive on? My blackstar has trouble playing overdrive over a clean tone, things get a bit muddy lol.
I can't get cubase to work with thrii. Input MIDI's seem right. Very frustrated. I am new to recording environment and a Windows guy. How did you map your MIDI inputs? I'm stuck.
Hey Robert, I can't say that I had any issues connecting my THR via USB and using it as an interface. Your computer should recognize the THR when you plug it in. I'm sorry, I wish I could be of more help to you. Maybe I will make a video using the THR as an interface soon.
There is an acoustic setting on these amps, it sounds great with a little bit of chorus and reverb if you play an acoustic/electric guitar. There is also a new version of the THR that has a built in XLR input for simultaneous guitar/vocal use. It's called the Yamaha THR30iiA. Pretty cool amp if dream of playing coffee house, small club and street corner gigs.
This is THE most common question about this amp, this is what the amp was made for, jamming along to songs and practicing, all in one cool looking box! Thanks for checking out the video!
Hi. I connected my Thr10II to my Pc and messed around with the effects. Now the Thr10II has weird sound in the background (noises like when you turn up gain). Is there any way to resets the effects to the effects setting from factory ? Please help me out.
I think your electric fiddle would sound fantastic. I've already convinced one violinist to buy a THR. My recommendation would be to get one of the wireless models so that you can move around more freely when you play.
Hi really cool demo. Any idea if I can connect and use my bluetooth headphones on this at the same time as my phone is connected via bluetooth for music playback? Not sure how I will be able to pair this with my headphones as I would on my phone or PC because there is no display to confirm the pairing? Thanks in advance - Mark
You may have to use chorded headphones with the setup you mentioned. I think the THR can only connect one bluetooth device at a time. I have some wireless headphones. I'll have to try that sometime soon. If you figure it out, please hit me up and let me know! Thanks for watching!
There is an acoustic setting on the amp and it sounds pretty good, I've used it a few times. There is however a THR30A model that is made specifically for acoustic guitar. It also has a built in XLR input for a microphone so you can play both your guitar and sing simultaneously. Hope that helps!
You would not be able to bluetooth connect to a PA, but the THR30W version has stereo 1/2'' outputs on the back. Pan that hard Left and Right on your PA and I think you'd have a great sound.
I have a THR 30W and I've used it as a Bluetooth speaker several times while camping. The wireless feature is really useful for when you're practicing. You can move the amp around the room. I really enjoy having this option but it's not crucial, don't let it stop you from getting a THR10ii, they're a little cheaper.
@@DrewCreal thanks! I am interested in both these options, since I have some weird noise issue at home when playing guitar and I recently discovered that if I play via wireless system or with battery amp, this noise is completely gone! I checked for all possible ground loops etc, but no solution was found so far rather than wireless or batteries. So I now started to look for the best possible solution that have these options. This Yamaha looks good, sounds good, have cool functions. Probably will make myself a present.
This would be rather clumsy amp if you wanted to do small gigs with it. You'd need a footswitch at least to change between lead and rhytm sound for example or any preset sounds for particular songs which possibility this does not seem to have ?
My teacher made me buy this one ! can't wait to receive it, by the way, i often see that thing that is placed after the nut of your guitar, what is this ?
Your teacher made a great amp recommendation for you! I'm using a gruv gear fret wrap. Sometimes I use this when I'm recording solo work in the studio. Adds a little continuity to my different instruments as well. Cheers my friend!
It's primarily a desktop combo amplifier. Think of a mixture between having a bluetooth soundbar and a guitar amp with FX. If you get the 30 watt version you could probably use it as an amp head and run it straight into the sound board.
@@DrewCreal thanx for the awnser, had no clue these type of amps existed you learn something new every day. Can you run in trough a cab? Does it take pedals? Does it have an fx loop? It does sound interesting

Argh ... how can you introduce this amp, make a 10-minute video-demo about this amp, have a bassguitar right next to you and not talk about the very special feature the THR 10II has? I mean how is it, a box, well its speakers respectively, this small can take these frequencies? What does it sound like?
I'll have to make a video where I'm playing bass through the THR, great suggestion. It's hard to fit everything I want to do into one video. Thanks for watching anyways!
THR30 II has 2 flaws : 1) Choose some factory preset, go to the tuner, leave the tuner - you're no more on this factory preset. 2) Guitar and Audio volume knobs do nothing for LINE outputs - this is some major drawback.
@@darinsteele7091 it's not about that. It's about that you pay lot of money for device with flaws. Next thing. Take echo knob. On my THR30 when you turn it clockwise to almost halfway of echo range, nothing happens. If you have an app, observe how echo mix starts from 19% or similar value, when you use the knob. With the knob you also can't set the mix of echo to 100%

@@rocktorrocks Yep, I did exactly the same thing, same result. 👍
Kiesel/Carvins are great! I'm hoping to order a new one soon. Check out my video where I'm messing around with their virtual builder, fun stuff! ua-cam.com/video/a1D5N-tKs2E/v-deo.html
How do you turn the light on? thx And what Carvin guitar model in this video
The light comes on anytime the amp is on. In this video I'm using a Carvin HF2 Fatboy. I actually have a video coming out about this guitar tomorrow.
This don't have the british drive the old ones had, right? It was the best channel on the old ones. But the special on this one is really good.
You're right, there's no british drive, but I'm sure you could get similar tones if you used the british speaker cabinet.
Can U plug into a mixer. Shame it didn't have a foot switch
@@DrewCreal Thank you for such a quick response. Means a lot.
More volume, slightly larger speakers, more amp models and stereo 1/4 outs.
Thanks for the video! Very informative. I've got only a question: what are you playing at 5:46? sounds beautiful
Thanks!
Looks like I'm playing Gsus4 moving some notes around on the B string, then moving the same notes around within the C2 chord. Hope that helps 👍thanks for watching
How do you download a patch from online into the app preset positions? Do I need some other software?
That's actually something I haven't gotten into yet, but I need to. Be on the lookout for a video on this soon.
how to pluge into computer and useing what cable? Because my computer wont recognize the amp
Try a different cable, or a different computer if you can.
Hi I just bought the THR3011w. Is it possible to get a jazz tone like Joe Pass...? what do you suggest?
I am hoping to run the non battery version with a external battery is that possible?
Thanks for your comment, you'll want to make sure your external battery pack has enough volts for the THR.
Hi drew, Im wondering if u could use it for record player(turntable) too?
So this DAW you are using on your computer, its using those settings and playing them out loud through your amp?
Yes! The I/O can be set to the THR
I have this amp haha, I had no idea this was possible.
since this records guitars will it work with a mic & vocals into the computer? and can i change those vocals with the possible effects?
You can use the amp the way that you described here. It could be a temporary solution to record guitar and vocals, but I probably would get an interface at some point for the best possible results.
Hi, great video! I was wondering if anyone knows how this amp responds to guitar pedals? - looking to get one, but might be a deal breaker if it doesn't work well with my pedals. Thanks!
That may actually be my next video on this amp, thanks for your question. There's a few different ways that you can use pedals with this amp and I'm looking forward to seeing how it sounds.
Hi
I use pedals...and it great
@@DrewCreal Thanks for your response! I look forward to that video!
nice video, thank you. At arroud the 2 min mark you are using a fairly nice clean sound, in the video it seems that you have set gain to max. could you please share the settings for clean with us, this is whre I struggle a bit - thank you in advance
I've got another video where I cover my clean sound as well as a few other sounds, you can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/ou9Ekka_GT4/v-deo.html
For this amp, where the gain, or any knob is makes no difference for the presets. If you touch the knob after selecting the preset then you turn it on and can change the sound
Do I need to buy USB A to B cable in order to record it on my computer?
thanks man
No problem!
@@Truthbearsartlessness I've been trying to figure this out for so long. Thank you
I can not make connection with the amp and smartphone. Do not know why? Green light is solid but no interaction with the knob images and the amp. Symbol is flashing in my phone.
Just got mine and I have the same problem, gonna update the amp maybe that helps. It that doesn't work I'll most likely end up just connecting it directly to my laptop
Make sure you've got the latest firmware and that your smartphone is up to date as well, you should not have issues connecting via Bluetooth.
4 day later update: i updated my hardware and now it works perfectly
I also managed to make some activity between. Sometimes the connection has difficulties to build up and takes more than one hour or can not be built at all (can not wait longer).
Can you use both Bluetooth and guitar at the same time?
Yes you can! So that you can jam with backing tracks and songs streaming from your phone or tablet!
Maybe I will make a video using the THR as an interface soon.
could you also connect this to an acoustic guitar?
There is an acoustic setting on these amps, it sounds great with a little bit of chorus and reverb if you play an acoustic/electric guitar. There is also a new version of the THR that has a built in XLR input for simultaneous guitar/vocal use. It's called the Yamaha THR30iiA. Pretty cool amp if dream of playing coffee house, small club and street corner gigs.
@@DrewCreal thanks!! :)
Can you play music on this from your phone via Bluetooth and play through it at the same time?
Yes
This is THE most common question about this amp, this is what the amp was made for, jamming along to songs and practicing, all in one cool looking box! Thanks for checking out the video!
Can you play music from your phone while using the guitar at the same time? And listening both?
Yes! You can definitely do that!
Yes. Master volume for guitar and volume for music
Hi. I connected my Thr10II to my Pc and messed around with the effects. Now the Thr10II has weird sound in the background (noises like when you turn up gain). Is there any way to resets the effects to the effects setting from factory ? Please help me out.
Try loading a factory preset from the app and see if that works.
@@DrewCreal I will try it !
Thank you for the answer :)
It’s a great amp , sounds are gorgeous, have you compared it to the the Positive Grid Spark 40? That’s getting a lot of attention these days
I definitely need to compare the 2 amps to each other, I'll try and get my hands on a Spark soon!
Do you think my electric fiddle would sound good on it?
I think your electric fiddle would sound fantastic. I've already convinced one violinist to buy a THR. My recommendation would be to get one of the wireless models so that you can move around more freely when you play.
@@DrewCreal i did buy a used X version. Sounds great.
Can I plug a fantom x keyboard into it?
Hi really cool demo. Any idea if I can connect and use my bluetooth headphones on this at the same time as my phone is connected via bluetooth for music playback? Not sure how I will be able to pair this with my headphones as I would on my phone or PC because there is no display to confirm the pairing? Thanks in advance - Mark
You may have to use chorded headphones with the setup you mentioned. I think the THR can only connect one bluetooth device at a time. I have some wireless headphones. I'll have to try that sometime soon. If you figure it out, please hit me up and let me know! Thanks for watching!
You have to use wired headphones. BT headphones usually have too much latency anyway,
Is this suitable for acoustic?
There is an acoustic setting on the amp and it sounds pretty good, I've used it a few times. There is however a THR30A model that is made specifically for acoustic guitar. It also has a built in XLR input for a microphone so you can play both your guitar and sing simultaneously. Hope that helps!
can it connect direct to PA
You would not be able to bluetooth connect to a PA, but the THR30W version has stereo 1/2'' outputs on the back. Pan that hard Left and Right on your PA and I think you'd have a great sound.
@@DrewCreal thanks for your quick responce I was thinking connecting from the headphone out if that's possible
Can I plug both a microphone and an acoustic- electric guitar simultaneously into this THR1011 Guitar Amp?
No
Nope, but the new THR30A allows you to do that.
Is the power supply 100 - 240v ?
Yes
Yep, AC 100-240V
Just got this amp today, and I was able to connect via bluetooth for about twenty minutes. Then, no more.
Try updating the firmware on the amp if you haven't already.
Nice! Do you still use it?
Every day!
@@DrewCreal Great! Do you use wireless and/or rechargeable battery function?
I have a THR 30W and I've used it as a Bluetooth speaker several times while camping. The wireless feature is really useful for when you're practicing. You can move the amp around the room. I really enjoy having this option but it's not crucial, don't let it stop you from getting a THR10ii, they're a little cheaper.
You might like this video as well. ua-cam.com/video/xW5Ahnwlcm8/v-deo.html
I couldn't get the Cubase AI to get the DAW, since it requires an access code at the end. Any tips on how to get that thing installed?
You should have an access code in the box that your amp was shipped in.
This would be rather clumsy amp if you wanted to do small gigs with it. You'd need a footswitch at least to change between lead and rhytm sound for example or any preset sounds for particular songs which possibility this does not seem to have ?
It's a practice amp mainly for home use and it's magnificent. I have the THR 10X and it's just great.
Read the manuals on the yamaha web page. You can connect a footswitch via Bluetooth !
Does the THR REMOTE works only through USB? Can i use it via bluetooth?
THR Remote is the name of the app for ios and android, THR Control works via USB from you laptop or desktop.
can the yamaha be used as an interface for amp sims?
There is like a bypass that won't color it at all, the guy I bought mine from said he used it for piano but I imagine you could use it your way too
You can bypass the speaker cabinets and use amp sims from your DAW. That might be my next video idea!
This guy knows whats up!
@@DrewCreal id def like to see how it looks on video
Great review! I was wandering how this amp does with external pedals since it doesn’t have an effects loop. Or does it? Thanks
I've actually got a whole video that covers this and it sounds pretty good!
Can you use Bluetooth headphones with it? That'd be cool
That would be cool but I don't think that would work.
@@DrewCreal ah good to hear so ! thank you for the info, figured out i don't really need a fret wrap right now as a beginner haha
Is it a head or a combo amp? Im confussed
Do you know why the volume is so weak in logic? Like when I record and play back, I can hardly listen to it
I'm not sure why that would be. Open up the settings in the THR Control app and adjust the guitar/audio crossover.
@@DrewCreal thank you!
What about plugging in your modeller by setting the amp as 'flat mode' ?
I have not tried this yet, seems like a great idea though.
I think Holdsworth would like it.
I think he would too!
Does the THR play guitar through both speakers? Because I tried already 2 THRs 30 II and I got impression, that guitar plays only through LEFT speaker of THR amp - can anyone confirm?
No.
mine doesnt work as a bluetooth speaker although its connected to my phone :(

THR30 II has 2 flaws :
1) Choose some factory preset, go to the tuner, leave the tuner - you're no more on this factory preset.
2) Guitar and Audio volume knobs do nothing for LINE outputs - this is some major drawback.
just use a clip on tuner, i never use tuners on amps ever in my life
@@darinsteele7091 it's not about that. It's about that you pay lot of money for device with flaws. Next thing. Take echo knob. On my THR30 when you turn it clockwise to almost halfway of echo range, nothing happens. If you have an app, observe how echo mix starts from 19% or similar value, when you use the knob. With the knob you also can't set the mix of echo to 100%
@@graycolors2879 with my THR10-II, the FX will kick in a little less than a quarter, i had to listen very carefully to pick it up. I don't know why they did that, just the way it's designed I guess, kind of annoying I didn't really pay attention before.
@@darinsteele7091 on THR10 1st gen, FX kick in since the start. The same with echo. Starts after about halfway, ends when echo+rev should be there.
After exiting the tuner, where does it take you to, if not the preset that you were previously on? Is this issue common to the THR10II?
I gave up at 1 minute. Why does there have to be a background sound ? I just wanted to hear about the amp. Seems a lot of people feel the need to add a sound track. Doesn't work for me.
