I’m an old “Minolta guy”, that’s returned to photography after some 25 years (I used to be a wedding photographer). I purchased the A6600 just to (re) test the waters, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I already owned a stable of Minolta, Sigma and Tamron lenses that I was eager to try again (and yes, I also have the Sony LA EA4). That old Sigma 50MM 1.4 still “… works like magic.” No, I haven’t gone “pixel-peeping” yet, but so far, I’m happy. The A6600 does things I could only dream about with my Minolta 9Xi (i.e., “the Tank”) I highly recommend the A6600. Save a few hundred, and put a down payment on that Sony 50MM 1.2. 😎
Those sigma lenses are legit! Are you using those with an adapter on the a6600? I’d be interested to know how all the AF functions work with older lenses. And I never do pixel-peeping anymore. I used to at first, but if nothing jumps out at me when I look at the image, then that’s good enough for me. Most people aren’t going to be doing that with my images anyways.
@@CamberFilmSchool all my older “A-mount” lenses work perfectly with the LA EA4, including my “beast” Minolta AE500 Reflex. Since a crop-sensor acquires the “center” of the lenses’ image area, whatever design anomalies the older lenses possessed are effectively concealed or suppressed - which (aside from cost) is partially the reason I chose APS-C rather than full frame. Aside from the bulk and size of the adapter (meh … I wouldn’t use it with a gimbal) the LA-EA4 is an excellent solution for those such as myself that are making the transition from “A” mount to “E” mount. My collection of lenses is like my “right arm” …. that I’d rather not “cut off.” 😉
I understand that about not wanting to change lenses. I had A LOT of Canon glass that I was thankfully able to sell but it was still a pain. I used an adapter for a while but it’s just not the same. I do like the smaller form factor with the newer mirrorless lenses to go along with the smaller cameras. Better for traveling too. I never though about how the crop factor could hide imperfections on older lenses. Good to know! 👍
I was seriously looking at the A6600 before going with the A7C. I don't care what people say, FF just has that "quality look" and as you said the low light performance is second to none. However in all fairness I've seen some amazing work done with APSC cameras, it's all about the lens but nice to have a great versatile body to go with it.
*I am all prepped to change from Canon to Sony 😍 ... i am just so impressed with Sony's Features and image. The A7c is an awesome camera... i hv been shooting with a canon m50 and sometimes that crop is so fustrating. And i hv the best person to suggest me about cameras ... Camber Motion 😜🤗🤘*
Do you have any thoughts about the color science between the 2 cameras? I thought that the 6600 has a less than ideal color science to it, compared to the a7c or the zv-e10
These days you can get either for pocket change worth of difference. And the A7c can use your aspc lenses in crop mode or, with the 1.4 teleconverter, can be used as full frame lenses. Pretty easy choice now ;-)
@@CamberFilmSchool I need you honest opinion I’m stuck between the 7c and 6600 I wanna do video and possibly will work in low light. I understand full frame is better if you have the money what’s the better option for someone who’s strictly into video. And what’s a good cheap full frame lens for video
Yea, I’d definitely go for the a7C because it’s such a great camera. As far as the lens, can you tell me what kind of budget you’re looking at so I can give you a good suggestion?
I have heard that new Sony cameras are coming soon so I hope the next a7000 will have new menu I even better specs than a6600. Will see in September I hope.
Yea, that new menu system on the a7Siii is pretty nice. I’m still confused as to why they didn’t include that in the a7C since it was released after. 🤷♂️
It will in aps-c mode. But it’s using a smaller portion of the sensor to do that so it’s essentially just an aps-c camera at that point. I don’t know how many pixels are in the cropped portion.
I like the a7c more but I don't like the price of full frame lenses I wanted to get an a7c but I'd rather be able to afford a few lense and the price of full frame lenses made my head spin since I'm just trying to do pictures and video for fun but being able to use catalyst browse and being able to do better astrophotography with a full frame is very intriguing
Yea. Keep in mind that you can still use these cameras with APS-C lenses and shoot in the “APS-C” mode. Then you can save up for better lenses in the future if you want. However, there are still some really good full frame zooms from sigma & Tamron that are around $800-$900.
@@CamberFilmSchool True but after the crop the of a 24mb full frame with apsc lense isn't it more like 10mp that seems lower than id like although in the long term that approach does seem to make sense so you don't have to just upgrade eventually when you decide to move up... I forgot to mention I'm also planning on doing a mixture of backpacking and photography so the weight and size of the bigger lenses does play a factor as well ... for short overnight trips not So much but for the 4-6 day trips that I take and bring my dog with and carry extra food and water for him it becomes more of an issue
That’s only a half pound difference in lens weight between a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 aps-c lens and a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens. I don’t think that would make that big of a difference on a trip. Especially since they’re near the same size. You have to keep in mind though that even at 10mp in an aps-c mode, you’ll end up with better low light quality compared to an aps-c camera because the pixels are still bigger letting each one get more light and look way better. The a7S3 & FX3 only have 12MP sensors and they look amazing (it’s all you need for 4K). You really don’t need more than that unless you plan on printing the pictures and putting them on a billboard. That’s what cameras like the a7RV are for.
@@CamberFilmSchool half a pound isn't too big of a difference I suppose plus something like a a7iii isn't much more expensive used than a a6600 I've been saving up and I'm looking to make a purchase in the next week or so. Yea, my camera has half the MP of my phone but it looks way better. Just keep in mind that if you go with the cheaper option, you may be disappointed and will end up spending more in the end when you get the more expensive one too. I’ve done this many times. 😂
Yea, unfortunately they have such good brand recognition that people just want their cameras. And then by the time they realize all the issues on the video side, they don’t want to switch because they’ve already invested money in lenses so they convince themselves it’s still a superior product.

This Tamron 20mm ( amzn.to/34MgffJ ) will probably work well for your applications. It’s plenty wide and you can use the APS-C mode to punch in 50% more making it like a 30mm and use clear image zoom on top of that to get up to nearly 50mm if you need.

Great presentation. I think I will go 7C. How do you get the floating titles to stick to the cameras as you move them??
It’s called key framing. You have to go frame by frame and move it.

The 6600 is an older model so it’s not going to be as good as those newer ones. I like the look of the a7C for sure.
I was between two of these cameras. So I'll buy a7c over my a6000. Because I want ISO flexibility. Thank you so much...
