Seeing your pigs hit the trough for corn kindled a memory. I know y'all don't grow that much corn in the Zarks. Back in the day semi-truckers would keep their trucks rolling during the months between harvests by hauling loads of corn from rural elevators in Northwest Missouri down to mills and farm supply businesses near the edge of the Ozarks. The basis advantage paid the freight costs and put a little extra money in their pockets. Looking back at my farming and ranching career, we sure were blessed to farm in a region with abundant feed resources. However, I'm jealous of all that clear water running through your pastures. All our rivers and streams and any ponds the cattle could access were typically muddy, about the color of chocolate milk. Feed/stock lots could remain muddy for the entire feeding season.
Animals have a God given instict that they sense the attitudes of us. That could be why the cows are calmer on Christmas. Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas.
Great video on Christmas day. I unroller hay also .Great way to spread the fertilizer then don't have to spread in the spring .
