Bravo Marcella. The lady sings pop and now she sings opera beautifully, The lady plays, she writes songs and the lady performs . This so genuine, woman`s talents are boundless. She always looks amazing too.
Marcy, glad you invited me to hear you sing with Leon Russell. and 1959 seems accurate. In the days before Clapton you must have been in your early twenties.
@CDW1968 It has been over a year since I commented on this ladies ability to sing opera. Her rendition of 'Un Bel Di Vedremo' was out of this world. I have listened to all the other professional classical singers and none can match Marcella's ability to put sheer passion and feeling into it. Please please tell her to record a classical album with this aria on it. If Joe Macaldry can do it she definately can!
I have this recored on my Sky Plus and can't stop playing it. I think Marcella is brilliant. It gives me tremendous pleasure to play it over and over again!!!!!!!
LLB is incompetent to judge anything, from his dress sense upwards. Marcella is simply the best singer in this show and has had the hardest songs out of anybody. She is a lovely lady, gracious with it, and a complete WINNER!
Unfortunately a lot of it is down to popularity rather than talent. Bernie Nolan and Darius have had a lot more visibility in recent years. On talent alone Marcella should win hands down, and I think she could genuinely do this professionally.
awww :( The moment she admitted she wanted to win and thought she actually could, she shot herself in the foot - it's daft, but even if it might be the truth (that she was good enough to win) the British public will always take such a proclamation as boastful and big-headed, whether it's merited or not. Any future non-Brit performers on a British show should take note as it's an opinion that's unlikely to change in future ...
@kokkelifiinu OMG THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this show is seriously making fun of a true art form!!! ive been training for opera for 6 months and sure i could reach a high F. but that doesnt mean im ready to sing un bel di. everything had to be well trained. Opera is seriously like an olympic sport. you must be WELL TRAINED!!! u cant just run a marathon..u must be well trained!! ughh this bugs me so much!!!
something what I call real talent, and it is not coming easily. Only person who really is a classical singer or other wise sivilized, can understand what I mean. It is not only music, it is lot more. Talent, tradition, sync. with conducter, orchestra and choir, remembering hours of music in foreign language, acting on front of the live audiens. It is more than crappy tv show, that destroys years and years work that other people do. And.. I am not alone with my oppinion.
@Bolly1965 - The 'official' birth date of 1959 appears on Wikipedia, but most fans take 1952 as her real birth date; 1959 seems to have been a fiction created to make her seem more youthful when Shakespear's Sister took off. If 1959 is correct, it means she was touring with Eric Clapton at 13!
@robertgbrown9 I totally agree. It will be an absolute travesty if she does not carry on singing opera. I will definitely buy her records. I am totally besotted
ALAS she did NOT win - she was the ONLY singer in that contest who COULD hack it - she did wonderfully well. I don't remember whom the moronic Viewers voted in as winner - some (no disrespect - just in operatic terms) absolute no-hoper & non event. The organisers of these things NEVER learn - HOW ON EARTH CAN YOU ALLOW AN AVERAGE BRITISH TALENT SHOW - AUDIENCE TO DECIDE ON THE OPERATIC POTENTIAL OF A VOICE !!!!!?????
I dont like this show.. She has just naturally high voice, that we have heard already while she has sang pop music. She is making vibra to her voice, it is not natural, and I hate the fact people think that you can become an operasinger in 2 weeks. I have sang 10 years, and I think I am still not ready. More you know, more you understand you dont know..
I can understand that you are fans of her.. I am just writing behalf of other real opera singers. You dont becoma an opera singer in 2 weeks, and this whole show should be banned, because it gives so wrong idea from our profession. If you sing pop music, you may have alittle band behind you, and you sing what ever.. but singing something that someone has composed decades a go, working with traditions, and surviving from whole hours long performance on front of the big symphony orchestra is
oh marcy... you actually admitted you think you could win... (even though this is common fact) you need to milk sympathy and underperform to win over the british public... except that you actually have talent, so hopefully the public will vote based on that for once!!
Sorry peeps, but that rendition was very weak. Yes, she hits the notes but the quality of her voice is very disagreable and somehow acidic. She didn't project the emotions of this song with the complexity the latter requires. Plus, they edited out the parts that counterbalance the stronger passages; so basically, they wanted her to shout at the top of her lungs.
I do agree with you to a degree. The cuts they make in the arias make very little musical or harmonic sense. But, you do have to commend the effort it took for Marcella to do this aria. She wasn't given the easiest job to do, but she did it well for someone of her background. She is in the beginning stages of her development. Quality of voice and emotion take time to develop, and Marcella didn't have than in her favor. If she had the desire to do opera, she would have needed serious work on her vibrato, to make in less wobbly and place in the diaphragm not the lips. Brava, Marcella and thanks for all the effort you put in.

I couldn't believe Orlando and LLB gave her negative comments - she was outstanding - much better than Danny who they raved over!!!!
@CDW1968
I so agree.
Omg

I do the same thing. I blank out. She didn't look like she did.

From Eric Clapton to Live Aid to this?
+tdolz Correction "from Eric Clapton to Live Aid to a number 1 hit with Shakespeare's Sister to this"
F A B
people on here knocking her voice, can you sing better, i fucking doubt it

And Katharine Jenkins, so-called "opera star," can't even say the name of the aria correctly. "Veldremo?"
I can understand that you are fans of her.. I am just writing behalf of other real opera singers.
