That wasnt the Blues when you first paused. It was for Auckland..
In NZ there are many levels of rugby.. Thats why we are so good..
1. National Team (All Blacks) There are many national teams, ie. All Blacks, NZ Sevens, NZ Maori, NZ Heartland, NZ Barbarians, NZ Pacific Team, NZ under 20s, Under 19s and NZ Secondary School Team.
2. Super Rugby Team (Country is split up into 5 teams) Eg. Blues have a main team, development team and many age grade teams and now Female teams
3. Provincial Team (Country is split up into 14 teams for the top division) They also have development teams and age grade teams, down to kids. Players from these teams are fighting for Super Rugby Contracts
4. Heartland Team (These are 12 smaller provinces, a few All Blacks have come from these smaller teams) These players usually stay at this level, but some get promoted to the next level, but not too often.
5. Club Rugby (Every player comes from a club, there are many clubs and division within every province) Kids start off playing club rugby as early as 4 and 5. Where im from there are many club teams ie. Premier team, development, Under 21s, Under 13s, under 12s, 11s, 10s, 9s, 8s, 7s and under 6s. From your Premier team you must be amazing con to be considered for your provincial team
6. Secondary School Rugby. Once you are too old for Under 13s, you must play School rugby, and they have many different teams at Secondary School. Ie First XV, 2nd XV, 3rd XV, Social teams, Under 16s, 15s, 14s. From the First XV you can be considered for your Premier Club Team
So normal road to the All Blacks..
1. Club rugby as a kid
2. Work hard to make a First XV at a well recognized school, possibly make the NZ Under 20s or Secondary School team.
3. Make your Premier Club team straight after college
4. Be a stand out player in your club team to be selected for a provincial team
5. Be one of the best players in your province to be given a Super Rugby Contract
6. Be a standout player in your Super Rugby team to be selected in the training squad for the ABs
7. Make the Abs from working hard in trial games or at training camp
