This is part of the firmware in the yoke itself; YOU CAN NOT CALIBRATE IT AWAY. When done and put back together it will be noticeably easier to use and have smooth movements--the lighter springs make a hell of a difference. I bought a new CH Flight Sim yoke about five years ago and I now need to take it apart, clean it up and do a re-lube.
I experimented with a lot of different lubricants and none except one worked as I hoped it would. The one thing that worked was automotive STP Oil Treatment. It is ridiculously slippery, can be applied to the shaft without need to disassemble anything and makes the yoke at least twice as good as it started out to be!!! I have the flight sim yoke and ch pro pedals as well and it works great. However i agree it took me a lot of time to configure manually in fs2020. I don’t understand why ch product didn’t agree with microsoft to have the auto assignement like they did with the xbox controller and logitech and saitek products. It took me one hour i think to configure to understand and set correctly the yoke pedal and trackir5
GleimAviation my ch product yoke and pro pedals and trackir5 works perfectly and it is very precise. I have no issue with throttle propeller and mixture. I have the full set for just the price of the honeycomb. My yoke is super stable on my desk it does not move at all as a contrary of what we see in the video.
I have a CH yoke that I have had for a few years. I think it works very good and I keep the shaft lubricated with white lithium grease. Still going strong. I also have CH rudder pedals and they are going strong as well.
CH yoke is very solid. Mine has is still going strong after 9 years. After a little use, yoke returns to pitch center just fine. Throttle levers have never been an issue getting in the way. I also highly recommend CH rudder pedals. No issues with them after 9 years. Both yoke and pedals have a really good feel; Yoke force required responds very well to level of trim applied. I prefer to click on 3D cockpit switches so no need for a bunch of extra rocker switches external to the sim.
I just ordered the Honeycomb as it's featured-packed for the price. I really like the two different desk mounting systems and all of those useful switches. The next step up would be a Yoko Plus but man, over $1000 for a yoke is a bit much right now. For a stick I'll go with something by Virpil. Great review, thanks!
Great video. I just bought the Honeycomb and am very satisfied with it, but I can't find any meaningful documentation on it to program it, so I am just kind of bumbling along. I am really glad I checked around and bought this one as my first and it is very different from the joystick. It actually seems to "drive" more like a car, and a bit closer to the way you'd imagine a plane would fly before the joystick. But it may take some getting used to after years of joystick flying. Again, great video and now all we need is a deck of cards. Oh, and you forgot the keyboard (uck). Cheers.
Good info, I might add that trying to land a plane with the two cheaper yokes is really hard as the shaft sticks and then moves. This makes your plane jump up and down. I even tried the modification for the Logitech yoke where they take the springs out and use rubber bands. Still I had to bite the bullet and buy the honeycomb. More bucks but worth it.
Good review for any new sim pilots, I would add that I have both the joystick and the CH Yoke. The joystick is a solid performer and the twist grip allows you to yaw if you dont have pedals. The CH Yoke is cheaply made and doesn't feel right if you want to fly the 'big jets'. It's metal holding screws will easily strip the plastic they go in to and then it's hard to get it even remotely stable.

I guess the Honeycomb is next... I've had the CH Yoke and the Saitek Pro Flight Yoke & Switch Panel in the past. Didnt like the CH yoke due to the all plastic construction and the somewhat jerky movement. I also didn't like the fact that the shaft extended out the back beyond the housing. I ended up modding it by removing the centering springs and using silicone lube spray on the shift. The Saitek yoke had a much smoother motion and the mount was more robust. The addon switch panels, throttle quads and mounting options are a plus. Unfortunately the starter knob on the switch panel is not spring loaded either. It also had this quirk where FSX wouldnt pick it up until one of the switches was toggled. I got rid of them them a while back but I always kept my trusty Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X
Something you mentioned on the cheapy yoke was that it doesn't bounce back to the same position pitch wise. You didn't mention it at all on the other 2 and it looked like when you were testing the honeycomb it had the same problem. Can anyone who has the honeycomb or logitech comment on whether or not the pitch springs work good in returning it to the 0 position?
I can confirm that the Honeycomb does return to the 0 position. It is the only one built "solid" and the only one that even could become part of an FAA-Approved system.
@@GleimAviation How about the logitech? I watched another video from Michael Brown and he says the pitch axis is kind of stuttery. Does it return to the 0 position and could the stutter be something you could potentially throw some grease onto the shaft to help remedy that?
@@Hockeyguy8541 The Logitech SOMETIMES has that issue. Some grease could help, but the reality is that the pilot is going to intentionally move the yoke where they want it to go. The CH is that only one that really becomes sticky to the point that it is a nuisance
@@GleimAviation Yeah I know what you mean. My grandpa had me flying his bonanza when I was 6 or 7 and had me using flight sims for years after that and he bought me the CH which I used for years. It's a very cheaply made yoke that I honestly can't recommend.
@@GleimAviation Honestly I've had more fun with the logitech joystick you showed in this video than i ever had with that yoke. That joystick is what I'm currently using for MSFS2020.
5 years ago I was so unhappy with the center detents in the Saitek yoke I made my own. I made aileron travel the full 90 degrees in either direction with no center detent. I mounted the main shaft on a pillow block bearing, then mounted that on a carrier mounted to a set of linear bearings on rails for pitch control. I used separate springs for roll and pitch (Other very expensive yokes at the time used one spring for both roll and pitch, making pitch forces inconsistent in one axis if the other was deflected. THAT was annoying). But at least it got rid of that @#$%^!! center detent in the Saitek. Then for the throttle quadrant I made linear motion controls to mimic my 172RG as I didn't like the rotary (90 degree) levers that the Saitek had. Does the Honeycomb system use one spring for pith/roll forces, or are there two springs? Sounds like I was just too early for the Honeycomb. My system is working fine, but if I ever need another it's good to see the Honeycomb is available now! Best of luck, everyone! Happy flying!
Is there ANY possibility to make some photos of the modifications you made to Saitek yoke? I`m pretty much interested in those linear bearings. I wanted to do that myself, but I`m not sure if it`s possible to mount them as the wires are attached to the shaft from the both sides. How should I do that, without desoldering the wires that comes out of the shaft? I`d be very grateful for the pics, if you have any. Thanks for the tips, anyway!

Hi thanks, great review. I just ordered the Honeycomb Yoke, I already have the Logiteck stick. For now I do not have a Throttle Quadrant. Can I use both the Yoke and the stick? The stick has the throttle and I would use some of its other buttons as well.
bravo throttle quadrant will take up a ton of desk space when they start shipping in November or December. be prepared to store your Virpil grip while you are using the Bravo (i realize that that's down the road a piece since Bravo won't realistically be on anyone's desk until January 2021). A fold-down table-mount would be ideal to store the HOTAS out of the way but they dont make one, you'll have to invent that .
Hi Paul. Great video. Is the honeycomb and Logitech systems plug and play, or do you need 3rd party drivers? 5 yrs ago I bought several Logitech systems but ran into all kinds of driver problems and finally gave up and sold them all. I plan on getting the MS flight sim 2020 soon but the memory of my experience holds me back. Any info would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!!!
Good video! I have a CH Products Eclipse and am considering upgrading. I agree with your assessment of the throttle controls on the top. For this reason I use a separate throttle for a more realistic simulator feel. The "trim wheel" on the left is NOT for trim, actually. It is a common misconception. That wheel determines how loose or tight the X and Y axes of the yoke will be. The Eclipse has its own trim wheel but I prefer a dedicate sim trim wheel instead.
I've had the CH Flight Sim yoke (and pedals) for probably over 10 years and it you can securely attach it--I use an old cutting board as a spacer for my thin desk shelf. For pitch trim, I use the grey rocker on the left horn and it works great. I'm sure the "feel" of the Honeycomb (as well as build quality, although I've never had any problems with either CH product) is superior and I'll probably upgrade at some point, (like if it ever breaks) but CH offers the best value out there and is certainly up to the task. You get used to the awkward placement of the power levers so I'll probably get a quadrant at some point as well (like when I upgrade the yoke and maybe pedals), but I've gotten along fine without one to this point.
To confirm, you need to buy the Logitech Throttle with the USB cable that is sold separately from the Logitech yoke. The one that comes with the yoke has a special cable that only plugs into the yoke.
Thank you for the detail review. Was curious just what they're all compatible with computer wise. Mine is an older Windows 7. Also no mention of the setup with the three terrain scenes and the screen with the gauges. What is it if I have to purchase a new computer and What systems work with that? I've been flying for a few decades. Have my experimental low wing for high-speed cross-country travel. Also have a experimental extreme stol bush plane for Scenic flights and camping. But I would like to finally invest in a simulator to practice recovery skills or stay proficient when weather does not permit.
Hi Ozark, We are thrilled to hear that you'll be investing in flight simulation. You would need to refer to each manufacture or software vendor to cross reference compatibility. The full setup is the Gleim Virtual Cockpit BATD, which is our FAA approved flight simulator. You can learn more about it here: www.gleimaviation.com/cockpitbatd/

I've been looking for this answer online and cannot find it. Or Can I just use keys on the keyboard or is there buttons for the rudders on the yoke? Many thanks in advance
Hi Ross, Yes you can use the Logitech pedals, they just plug in with a separate USB cable. I highly recommend using pedals. If you don't have them, the simulator software can auto coordinate the yaw axis with the roll axis, however, that is not very realistic.
@@GleimAviation hey thanks!! That's awesome I didn't know if they would connect right and i don't wanna make a $70 mistake 😅 hope your day is wonderful!
Following your excellent presentation for which I thank you, I am interested now in the Honeycomb Alpha Yoke, is it possible to connect a Logitech G Flight Control Quadrant ? Thank you in advance for your help which will be appreciated.

Hello, great video! I am new to flight sim well I am an old gamer but I always found the flight sim games very hard to learn but now with FS 2020 it looks that Ms is adding a lot more aid for people like me. The question I have is If I just buy the Honeycomb Yoke will I need the other items rudder, throttle etc to play the game or can I purchase at a later date if I enjoy the experience. Thanks
I have owned the CH yoke for several years. The concave shaped grabbers which are supposed to keep the yoke securely attached to the desk are poorly designed i.m.o...I had to attach a length of half round dowel to the underside of my desk... It does the job of keeping the Yoke secured to the desk!
How do you feel about the Turtle Beach Velocity One VS the Honeycomb? I know some folks mentioned that the turtle beach sticks a little bit, but that it gets better once it's broken in. I'm leaning toward the TB but the honeycomb also seems incredibly nice.
I really wish I knew how to get the Honeycomb controllers. I made the mistake of waiting until after Microsoft Flight Sim released, and now they are impossible to get. Everyone that bought them, is selling them on Ebay for a $200 - $250 markup. It's nuts.

Do they make throttle controls with push/pull functionality like Cessna aircraft I'd likely take my training in? Hoping to get as close as I can to help get familiar with the controls.
There are no consumer grade products currently produced in what's known as the vernier style. However, the lever style works similarly and is easily adaptable to any type of aircraft.
Does the Honeycomb Alpha Yoke has some kind of "dead zone" like other reviewers said, and if so, with MS Flight Simulator 2020, is there any remedy for that to make it truly realistic? Thanks!
If i wanted to get the honeycomb yoke, but also get the logitech instruments, will they work together, and if so is there a way to mount the instruments to the yoke? or do you a recommendation for how mount those instruments to a desk without buying their expensive panel?
Hi Christopher, the instruments will work with the Honeycomb Alpha yoke. You'll probably need to make sure you have a powered USB hub to connect them all depending on how many you use. The Alpha yoke also has the same bolt pattern on top to accept the Logitech instruments. The instruments have a frame that you can use as a template to drill holes to a desk and mount with screws. Otherwise you could create your own mounting tray that clamps to a desk.
I ordered the honeycomb but wasn't going to arrive for a month so got a joystick for the time being. Even after playing with all the sensitivity settings i could not fly smoothly with the stick. Constant "rollercoaster" effect and the flare was impossible, i was better off using the keyboard. Honeycomb arrives tomorrow 🤞🤞
@@jack0939 i bought it from sportys.com for 250, where on Amazon it's 400 something. But received it and it's truly amazing very similar to the Cessna that i fly. Absolutely worth it!
The pedals definitely create a more realistic experiences. Without pedals you would not have full rudder control. Most simulators will auto-coordinate the rudder if you do not have pedals but that is not ideal for true to life practice.
Unless you are simulating an Ercoupe or some weird thing like that, yes you want pedals. Can't practice coordination without it, can't slip a landing without it, there are nuances to when to use more rudder vs more aileron.
Is your center screen a touchscreen monitor? I just completed a new PC build for MSFS2020 and considered a smaller touch screen for "touching buttons" in the cockpit but was not sure if it will work like i want it to. My graphics card will support 4 monitors (and i have 3). Right now i was waiting to see if the game will support. Thanks!
Yes, it is a touchscreen. We use proprietary software on our system to power it, but there are some 3rd party apps that can interface with the major sim software titles.
I've had a CH yoke for 21 years. Dusted it off and tries it out. It's absolutely PERFECT ! I'm super happy. Was going to buy the thrustmaster boeing yoke. But forget that ! Sticking with my trusty CH yoke. U will buy 2 Logitech throttles though. Forget the honeycomb throttles. They break. Read about it in forums. And Reddit.
Yes, you can use any flight control together regardless of manufacturer. Be sure to assign the controls correctly in the sim and ensure functions do not conflict with each other.
MSFS2020 real problems with Ch Products... please advise.. pitch down wont assign and I cant control any small aircraft with side stick...doesnt make sense. Most of the buttons dont work anyway... good footage though bud...
I've heard a number of people having similar issues with any hardware. As the software is very new, there are bugs getting worked out. MS team blaming hardware, hardware manufactures blaming MS. 🤷
Make sure you assign the analog setting (FS2020 calls it something weird "....axis" IIRC. I'm not in front of the computer right now). Basically you have 3 settings. pitch down pitch up and pitchaxis (I think)... The 3rd option "pitchaxis" is what you use. Had exactly the same problem as you. Now it all works. You use ....axis for the foot controller too.
Yep, what @@GodzillaGoesGaga says is most likely the problem people are having. Assign to “pitch axis”, not “pitch up” or “pitch down”. Also, buttons need to be manually programmed.
Hi, have a question concerning the three yokes, how much dead travel do they have. I have a Saitek yoke and it has about a 1/4 inch travel on the pitch and roll making landing extremely interesting.
The forward/aft travel of the CH yoke is sticky and totally spoils the experience. I have the Saitek yoke but wasn't aware of the 45 degree / double sensitivity aspect - good catch! Question: Are the screws on top of the Honeycomb placed to be compatible with Saitek/Logitek components..? (Looks like it, but I'd like to confirm).
unfortunately Honeycomb didn’t add the threaded inserts to their yoke, the clamp take up a lot of space under your table, so make sure there is room for your legs.
The threaded inserts at the top are technically meant to attach Logitech accessories, not mount the yoke. However, the clamps that go under the yoke work great. There is plenty of room under the table for your legs.

@@H15HH05H wait really?
Great video. I just bought the Honeycomb and am very satisfied with it, but I can't find any meaningful documentation on it to program it, so I am just kind of bumbling along. I am really glad I checked around and bought this one as my first and it is very different from the joystick. It actually seems to "drive" more like a car, and a bit closer to the way you'd imagine a plane would fly before the joystick. But it may take some getting used to after years of joystick flying. Again, great video and now all we need is a deck of cards. Oh, and you forgot the keyboard (uck). Cheers.
Glad I found this video before I plunge into FS 2020 am thinking within the next 6 months finally am satasfied that FS is better
If you are interested in flying both types of control would you recommend getting a yoke and a joystick
Yes you can do that. In X-plane you can set up multiple hardware profiles.
@@GleimAviation thanks
Great video. Can you do a similar one on rudder pedals?
Great suggestion. Stay tuned...
What is the name of the virtual cockpit he refers to?
This is the Gleim Virtual Cockpit. Check it out at Gleimaviation.com/simulation

I want to know how you have 3 monitors and a fourth showing just the plane controls.....do a video on that. 🤔
Stay tuned...

But how bad is the deadzone
The honeycomb also has the mounting for the saitek panels which is good for people.
Can you pls. suggest the beast seating or complete setup for a flight simulators?
Great video! I'm a subscriber. Thank you!
Great review. Could you please do one for rudder pedals???
Thanks! just what I needed :)

Hi thanks, great review. I just ordered the Honeycomb Yoke, I already have the Logiteck stick. For now I do not have a Throttle Quadrant. Can I use both the Yoke and the stick? The stick has the throttle and I would use some of its other buttons as well.
You can assign the throttle axis to the Joystick then use the yoke for everything else.
bravo throttle quadrant will take up a ton of desk space when they start shipping in November or December. be prepared to store your Virpil grip while you are using the Bravo (i realize that that's down the road a piece since Bravo won't realistically be on anyone's desk until January 2021). A fold-down table-mount would be ideal to store the HOTAS out of the way but they dont make one, you'll have to invent that .
Thank you extremely informative and changed my buying decision
These are both plug an play.
There are some screws on the top of the honeycomb similar to the ones on the logitech. Are they also for mounting the Logitech flight panels?
Yes they are. ;-)
Very helpful. Thanks
Great Review, Some reviews mention a dead zone with the Honeycomb Alpha, Have you any feedback/experience of whether this is still an issue?
I have experienced no dead zone on the honeycomb yoke. if there is, it is not noticeable.
I read elsewhere that early shipping models had a calibration issue that caused this, and that it was it was fixed for later shipments.
Can you use the Logitech throttle quadrant with the Honeycomb yoke?
Yes. This is how our FAA-approved simulator is set up. Check out www.gleimaviation.com/shop/cockpitbatd/
To confirm, you need to buy the Logitech Throttle with the USB cable that is sold separately from the Logitech yoke. The one that comes with the yoke has a special cable that only plugs into the yoke.
Thanks man, awesome it really helped me out. :D

Can I use a ch products yoke with my Logitech Throttle Quadrant
If you have a stand alone Logitech throttle with a USB connection, then you can use it. The throttle that comes with the Logitech yoke has a special connector that only works with it.
Thanks
If you're starting off, go with the yoke. You can buy other things as you progress.
What are you using to get the flight instruments and displays on that separate screen?
I have owned the CH yoke for several years. The concave shaped grabbers which are supposed to keep the yoke securely attached to the desk are poorly designed i.m.o...I had to attach a length of half round dowel to the underside of my desk... It does the job of keeping the Yoke secured to the desk!
Sounds like you have a nice solution with the dowel.
What’s the monitor stand you’re using for the triple setup?
It's our proprietary stand, the Gleim Virtual Cockpit. You can get it here: www.gleimaviation.com/shop/virtual-cockpit/
I notice you didn't mention the price on the Honeycomb. :)
Oops, it should be $249.99 everywhere unless someone is unfairly marking it up

How do you feel about the Turtle Beach Velocity One VS the Honeycomb? I know some folks mentioned that the turtle beach sticks a little bit, but that it gets better once it's broken in. I'm leaning toward the TB but the honeycomb also seems incredibly nice.
What throttle should I get with the honeycomb??
I really wish I knew how to get the Honeycomb controllers. I made the mistake of waiting until after Microsoft Flight Sim released, and now they are impossible to get. Everyone that bought them, is selling them on Ebay for a $200 - $250 markup. It's nuts.

If you want force feedback, you're going to spend many times more. FFB is not a necessary component even in "approved" flight simulators.
@@GleimAviation which is pretty sad. The logitech steeringwheels have 2 motors and this could easily be done on a yoke. This isnt rocket science
How are you attaching the monitor showing the instruments? Does Gleim provide a mount attachment for that?
Thx Paul re the Thrustmaster yoke would you say it fine for GA aircraft?
Do they make throttle controls with push/pull functionality like Cessna aircraft I'd likely take my training in? Hoping to get as close as I can to help get familiar with the controls.
There are no consumer grade products currently produced in what's known as the vernier style. However, the lever style works similarly and is easily adaptable to any type of aircraft.
Does the Honeycomb Alpha Yoke has some kind of "dead zone" like other reviewers said, and if so, with MS Flight Simulator 2020, is there any remedy for that to make it truly realistic? Thanks!
I have not experienced any dead zone with the Honeycomb Alpha Yoke.
You forgot to mention the price on the
honeycomb alpha yoke. But other than that the video was great. Thanks for the info.
The Honeycomb alpha looks like it also has holes on the top. Are those setup to accept the Logitech additional controls just like the Logitech one?
Yes they are set up to mount to the Logitech accessories.
Did you receive the yoke? We might buy from them but don't know if its a scam.
@@jack0939 i bought it from sportys.com for 250, where on Amazon it's 400 something. But received it and it's truly amazing very similar to the Cessna that i fly. Absolutely worth it!
@@joek1302 Alright. We will look into it! Thanks.
You didn't talk about the pedals, are they needed for a better experience?
The pedals definitely create a more realistic experiences. Without pedals you would not have full rudder control. Most simulators will auto-coordinate the rudder if you do not have pedals but that is not ideal for true to life practice.
Unless you are simulating an Ercoupe or some weird thing like that, yes you want pedals. Can't practice coordination without it, can't slip a landing without it, there are nuances to when to use more rudder vs more aileron.
I see you compared the CH Flight Sim yoke - but how does the CH Eclipse yoke compare?
Its slightly better the the CH Flight Yoke, but still not up to par with any others.
@@GleimAviation thank you. I will be looking into this. I'm thinking with a G1000 its much more intuitive on a touch screen and i like that idea.

Great video! Is there any software that will allow me to simulate a Cherokee 235?
I've had a CH yoke for 21 years. Dusted it off and tries it out. It's absolutely PERFECT ! I'm super happy. Was going to buy the thrustmaster boeing yoke. But forget that ! Sticking with my trusty CH yoke. U will buy 2 Logitech throttles though. Forget the honeycomb throttles. They break. Read about it in forums. And Reddit.
Can you use the Logitech rudder pedals with the honeycomb yoke as well as the Logitech throttles?
Can you use any of them on Xbox ? 😅
Nope sorry, but I've heard that this Thrustmaster HOTAS works www.thrustmaster.com/node/7787
the only thing is with the logistic yoke if you use it a lot after a while it starts to have a dead zone
How about programing it for other computer simulations
The forward/aft travel of the CH yoke is sticky and totally spoils the experience. I have the Saitek yoke but wasn't aware of the 45 degree / double sensitivity aspect - good catch!
Question: Are the screws on top of the Honeycomb placed to be compatible with Saitek/Logitek components..? (Looks like it, but I'd like to confirm).
Yes the Honeycomb has mounting points compatible with the Saitek/Logitek components.
unfortunately Honeycomb didn’t add the threaded inserts to their yoke, the clamp take up a lot of space under your table, so make sure there is room for your legs.
The threaded inserts at the top are technically meant to attach Logitech accessories, not mount the yoke. However, the clamps that go under the yoke work great. There is plenty of room under the table for your legs.
