    Some years ago with colleagues from Birmingham I enjoyed a fine fusion of Bhangra and the Helston Furry dance. It worked a treat. Three cheers for shared culture!

    If people took things like this serious, then humor would be offensive to everyone.
    Every culture, tradition and types of people has a prejudice, and comedies just make fun of that prejudice by overemphasizing it.
    Whats the point of life when we can't laugh at ourselves, it doesn't mean we don't respect where we come from, it just means that we can take these jokes with a light heart, and still be proud of where we come from.

    C'mon ppl - every culture has some kind of dance that looks silly and weird to others. For example, I am Austrian and I think our folk dancing looks extremely stupid - even though it is in some ways quite similar to Morris dancing - I love Bollywood Dancing for example - but to be honest, this has some quite silly moves also :-) So what?!!

      I suggest you actually do some research on Morris Dancing! My question is, as (the depicted) Cotwolds Morris....where were their sticks?? They should have clonked Bhangraman on the head and flicked him with wet hankies! ('Dangerous things hankies: quote from the wonderful spoof documentary 'Life in Bells.' )
      Yes the humour does work with hanky dancing, but not with some of the Border Morris sides who would put the wind up Bhangraman.

    Yeah, Morris Dancing is not something we're too proud of here in England. Described in a different comedy series as "A bunch of effeminate blacksmiths who wave bits of cloth they've just wiped their noses on".

      NetMoverSitan that's too bad. Folk dancing isn't ridiculous, out-moded stuff. Folk dancing is heritage, cultural inheritance! Thank god you've got some! some people don't. While I thought this clip was very very funny, I have to say that I (an American) finding out that my English ancestors did have SOME significant form of folk dance and costume was a great relief to me, and made me very proud indeed.

      The English people’s DNA is predominantly ancient Briton or Celtic.It’s a myth that it’s Saxon,they ruled but didn’t replace the native population.Morris dancing was unruly dancing,mentioned in the 12th century as ‘Routs and Reyes’ dancing,later named Morris dancing.The blackened faces go back to guise dancing which is pagan!

      Morris dancing is clearly traced back to a royal court entertainment - earliest reference is from the Burgundian court of 1427-28 (la morisque).
      In England 19th May 1448 - The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths (Moryssh. daunsers).
      Blacking up is not found in morris dancing before 19th century.

      @@twiceborne Jig is an old English word for 'the old way of dancing' and blacking your face has always appeared in Pagan rituals as guising,to hide your appearance.Just because something is documented at a certain point,doesn't mean it hasn't got older roots.
