It's a mix of his mental disability along with the fact that he went to higher education too quickly, so he was always the youngest by such a large margin that kinda didn't grow enough. And by the time he was an actual adult, he got used to always being the youngest. It's why it's actually recommended to keep really smart kids in school with peers of the same age... If everyone around you is way too much older than you, you won't grow...
