That is one of the best 40 year old resto-mods I have ever seen. Like you said, there is real craftsmanship in what was done to that car. Glad you are using it and enjoying it. That is what that car was made for.
This video made me realise the two cars from early childhood that inspire me as a daily drive restomod are my mom’s dad’s 41 Olds in the same fastback body style as your 49 Caddy, and dad’s mom’s 38 LaSalle. Growing up during the war these two family cars marked the stylistic break between the older 30s cars and what were back the contemporary look. The Cord was probably the car that inspired this shift. So for someone my age your 49 Cadillac is more closely related to all those cars that were made since - the whole 3 decade progression up to the malaise era. The La Salle, from my perspective is a bit old fashioned, and of course the preceding Model A square body style the last ruminant of carriage style coachwork - so to speak. There were plenty of them on the roads during the war as I peeked out from my perch in the front seat of these and other family cars.
It pleases my soul to see these Classic land yacht's surviving and driving as they should, showing off style and Craftsmanship. It's sad we will never see this ever again.

Man that Cadillac... normally I'm very trepidatious towards resto-mods, but whew that Caddy is so tastefully done you would never be able to guess it was a resto-mod without a bit of knowledge. The seats and steering wheel fit so well, and the engine I'm sure is that sweet spot of power of being classic-feeling engine without being quite as old or anemic as the '49 (probably not sweet on the MPG, but who can begrudge it for that). Wow! Surely a pinnacle of automotive craft and art on multiple levels. There's a real "sense occasion" travelling in this, even if vicariously via video. As for "arrival impact", it probably trumps any high status contemporary car. Just beautiful.
Such an amazing car. From an era gone by. Could you revisit the car with hopefully another example with the original engine? Just for comparison. Down the road that should be fun. Then viewers could see and appriciate the mods that were done along the line.

@@V8Power5300 Sorry but you're wrong. Bad cylinder deactivation was available on 5.7s in the late 70's, and all thru the 90's. It saved owners a whole shot glass of gas, every 100 miles.😂🤣 And took any hint of power out of the already anemic car. i like how stewart says "yeah". plus the work he did on that caddy and the miata looks amazing. yeah.
Thanks for featuring this gorgeous Cadillac. One of my favorite cars is a 1965 Buick Riviera Grand Sport.
If you ever found one needing a bit of love, that would be an enjoyable video documentation. A very rare, beautiful, powerful, luxury sports car that is very unique.
YES love the Cadillac! Congratulations on such a neat find.
Oh wizard! He id such a nice guy and i love him! Keep up the great videos tyler! I know freddy bought the pimp my ride van from you...... but the reaction of the wizard to the car was AMAZING!
This Cadillac is probably one of my most favorite Hoovies Hoopties
Very nice Video, as the recent owner of a 1947 Buick Sedanette with a similar body style its very similar to the way yours is done . It has a Buick 455 engine with a TH 400 and Ford 9 inch rear. Doing a lot of work to it and your Video has inspired me even more . Thanks ..
That is truly one stunning looking automobile.... Well done to you Hoovie 👍👍
Literally to the 1% who's reading this, God bless you, and may your dreams come true, stay safe and have a wonderful day.
Wow! Surely a pinnacle of automotive craft and art on multiple levels. There's a real "sense occasion" travelling in this, even if vicariously via video. As for "arrival impact", it probably trumps any high status contemporary car. Just beautiful.
The 49 is the nicest, most stylish and relatable car for your audience. It looks amazing and I'd love to see one like it in person one day
the miata is super nice,
the caddilac is GORGEOUS.
Enjoy them :-)
Such an amazing car. From an era gone by.
Could you revisit the car with hopefully another example with the original engine? Just for comparison.
Down the road that should be fun.
Then viewers could see and appriciate the mods that were done along the line.
Please keep this car for a while. Its absolutely beautiful! I could look at this car all day. One of the nicest looking cars ever imo. It looks so sinister and villainous
I started my channel based on Copart many years ago. I was doing Copart before Copart was cool.
Tyler, I can't begin to tell you how much I love this Caddy and also your Chevy Wagon.
Stewart is proving time and time again that he and his team are consummate pros.
I can't imagine that 503ci being easy on gas?
Maybe this winter, have the Wizard do a modern LS 4 fuel injection swap. Go from 8 mpg, to 35 or more. New rubber would be a safe thing also as a daily driver.
Much success with the 49. Thank you for buying her, and sharing her with us.
Go with cylinder deactivation. Optional on 500.
@@rogersmith7396 Actually the cylinder deactivation was single year only on the 368 V8. It's unfortunate that they had all of those electronics problems. Mechanically the system was sound
@@V8Power5300 I have a 454 Truck which I won't drive due to gallons per mile economy. I wonder if I could remove the pushrods from two cylinders to get a little sanity. I'm guessing the tappets would have to come out too but I don't know if that would upset oiling or vacume somehow. I posed the question to an expert but got no reply. Its throttle body FI
@@V8Power5300
Sorry but you're wrong.
Bad cylinder deactivation was available on 5.7s in the late 70's, and all thru the 90's.
Bad in that it just turned off the fuel injectors to the center 4 cylinders, so there were 4 boat anchors in your 5.7, V8.
It saved owners a whole shot glass of gas, every 100 miles.😂🤣
And took any hint of power out of the already anemic car.
I still remember a dealership mechanic in Tulsa, showing me the pink wire he was cutting to fix an "under performing" Caddy a costumer had recently bought. She wanted her June Bug to fly. To hell with the cost of gas! (This was 1980's Oklahoma after all)
🤣😂🤣
@@rogersmith7396 Removing the lifters would cause a huge oil leak.
What year is the 454? HEI ignition era ones would lose power/gas mileage when the pickup coil in the distributor went bad.
That Cadillac is so clean and beautiful enough I'd never get rid of it, it's like a slightly modernized retro time capsule good find man
This detailer is such a genuine guy! He really cares about the cars and is also actually interested. Wow - good guy. Stick with him. Not many folks out there like that.
Love the look of the car.
such a boss car
Beautiful fast back Caddy, and classic old grocery store. The Car Wizard is always good to see too!
Thank you so much. I have always enjoyed those years of car manufacturing. They are a piece of art more than anything.
"So you put some air in my rear air suspension there?" TMI
That car is rolling art. Truly a piece of American craftsmanship that will never be repeated. The greatest thing is that it’s such a high quality piece that even if you do decide to drive it every day, if you were to wear out the big 500, that car could be upgraded again with a modern LS and keep on going for a whole new lifetime.
I love the videos featuring this ‘49 Cadillac. Absolutely stunning car. It was the standard of the world in its day. How sad that the US automotive industry then became so complacent for so many years thereafter.
nice
Damn - last time I was this early my girlfriend got mad at me.
As a premature ejaculator, I know what you're talking about.
Of all your vehicles, this 49 Cadillac is my favorite! The design almost has a modern feel while being a true classic!!
So glad we didn’t have to wait on the results! It looks amazing!
First
A simply gorgeous machine. It's pretty much a museum piece. That Miata is pretty mint, too.
The enthusiasm of the guy at Vango definitely loves his job and shows by the quality of work. Wish we could all have that amount of enthusiasm.
