And some cats dislike it, but THEY NEED TO BE BATHED. Some people give their cats monthly baths. Plus, you can SEE this guy is trying his best to be gentle and calm. You need to realize that sometimes cats get FLEAS and no amount of grooming is going to get them out. So keep your mouth shut.

A little tip for when you are bathing your cat, put a towel in the bottom of the bath so Cheetah has something to grip onto it'll help keep him calm in the bath as he won't slip around as much.

By your logic, instead of washing the petrol off so the cat didn't ingest it while trying to groom and clean itself, she should have let the cat just clean off the petrol by itself right? So, SO silly, no sense whatsoever in people that say you shouldn't bathe your cats. Cats (especially kittens who get into everything) sometimes have some truly horrendous stuff getting into their fur either during play time or by accident, and sometimes it isn't safe to let them take care of it themselves, we need to step in and wash it off properly. I give my kittens a bath weekly so that when they get older, if any such thing should happen and they get a dangerous substance on their fur that needs to be washed out they won't be so afraid while having their bath. All the people saying how bathing a cat is abuse...Sometimes you just have to wash your cat. For medical reason or because they have gotten dirty roaming outside. It is unusual for them, but it does not hurt them. My cat still loves me after baths. So calm down :D

Emma Belle though you do have a point with the bathing technique, and there are actual bathing techniques to help with this, I don't think the cat was screaming bloody murder. Cats hate their fur getting wet because the fur then sticks to their body. Also, about "animal in the wild", yes, they have natural instinct, but that doesn't make the bathroom the wild. Also, I don't know if you've ever noticed this, but cats can get smelly, kinda like how our breath stink after a while. Sometimes, it's good to kill the bacteria that their mouths don't really kill. Cats can easily get into garbage, feces, etc, so it might be a good idea to take care of that. And I've seen what bad hygiene can do to a cat. I had an old cat for eight months, and he was abandoned, as far as I know, and he was so dirty. When I gave the poor little guy baths, the water coming out of his fur was brown, and I am happy that he at least felt cleaner before he passed on. The poor guy was so sweet and loving, but being an outdoor cat meant that he was vulnerable to many diseases and such.

Some cats do not adequately clean themselves. It is perfectly fine to give a cat a bath with shampoo for cats. For those saying that you are putting the cat under too much stress are misinformed. Most of this "crying" is just complaining. People who don't give their animals baths when they NEED them are the same people who refuse to enforce their toddlers to use a toilet. If your kid can walk and talk, they most definitely can use the restroom. Tough love is something no one knows how to use anymore....

I know from personal experience. My lovely girl (nugget) was really dirty from playing outside & I was responsible of keeping her clean. She had the same reactions, clinging onto the faucet and kicking, screaming. Some cats react differently to baths, some just are pretty vocal and overreactive & some are chill.

Your cat is absolutely adorable. The way you spoke to him was evidence that you were not trying to harm him but comfort him. As a cat owner myself, I don't see anything wrong with giving cats a bath. I have two cats, both were shelter animals. One of the cats I adopted lost his mother at an early age and never learned how to properly groom himself. The other cat as tried to groom him, but to no avail. Because he does not groom himself, he needs a bath every week. That was the only way we could fix his dry skin and all the loose hair that had been lost but did not fall off his body. Just like us humans, cats develop dry skin or dandruff. Some cats, like long haired cats can develop matted coats. Every animal outdoor and indoor needs baths. To anyone who disagrees, I hope you enjoy the fact that you not washing your animals is considered a form of neglect.

I read your description, I read everything and I watched through the video. And honestly you did AWESOME with your cute little cat, Cheetah is so adorable and precious and he/she looks so healthy and well taken care of. You comfort it, You stroke it, you don't ignore it, You even get rid of the noise disturbance that scared him to death in the first place. You are my role model. You did amazing! For awareness purposes, one this isn’t abuse. Two, cats don’t hate water and are usually skilled swimmers from birth, Cheetah here just doesn’t want to bathe. Three, the owner knows their cat better than you do, get over it. Four, it’s been sixteen years, so you can stop the with the “abuse” and “the cat doesn’t like it” comments.

actually... cats clean them selves by licking. I have a cat myself and had him for like 8 or 9 years now, we have never gave him a bath and he is completely fine. The fur falling off the cat could be a medical problem if it is falling off in big clumps, but tiny amounts is normal especially in summer. My cat has had fleas but that is because foxes lived here, we just simply gave him some flea tablets in his food and a little liquid drop on his fur and that sorted him out. Cats don't have strong smells, the only way you can tell if your cats stinks is by having your nose right near them. Why you sniffing cats for? So in conclusion, YOU don't know what your talking about.

I bathed my cat with a detachable shower head (if you have one) get the water to the perfect temperature (not too warm, not too cold) and calm your cat down for a little while with petting and reassurance before the bath. My cat resisted a bit when I first put him in the tub with the water on, so I gently but firmly scruffed him and held the shower head close to him to saturate his fur quickly. I also got in the actual bathtub with him and let the water run over myself first so he could see that it wasn't going to hurt me or him, and gave me closer contact so I wasn't looming over him in a threatening/over-domineering manner. He was kinda more in my lap with water going over the both of us, so it was sort of an "all of us involved'' thing. I really feel that trust is the key. He did struggle a bit, and I did get a few scratches in the process (not intentional, just from the awkward struggle), but it's important to remain calm. Your cat is probably in way more distress than you since he/she doesn't fully understand the situation. He's now strictly an indoor cat (started out as an outdoor complete feral) with a semi-long beautiful tuxedo coat, and had gotten fleas from a stray/feral that belongs to one of my idiot neighbors who leaves her outside with no food (I pity-feed her occasionally, she's so skinny ;_;) that snuck into my garage, and subsequently my house when I was moving a dryer in from the garage (probably because she was hungry). My cat needed a flea bath after fleas from that cat got into my house (arGGGH!) and onto my cat. When I could sense he was going to panic a bit, I took the water away and gently stroked his chin and face and spoke softly to him, cradled him, told him he was a good boy, and he calmed down. It was a bit of a messy process, since I obviously got SOAKED, and I was wearing two pairs of thickish leggings so he'd have something to grip onto, but his claws couldn't pierce through easily and cut my legs up. He is NOT declawed. I would never EVER in a million years declaw a cat. He did not cry or even meow during the entire bathing process. Towards the end he sort of just gave up (poor guy ;_; ) and let it happen. The flea shampoo needs to sit on the fur for at least a few minutes, and the tub should have minimal standing water so the medicated shampoo does not immediately wash off and gets a chance to kill the fleas/scare them out. I thoroughly washed the shampoo out (very important) afterwards for a good few minutes, and he stayed pretty calm from then on. Immediately afterwards I wrapped him up in a warm, dry towel and stroked him, telling him he was a good boy and gave him treats and dried him off a bit. A few minutes later, he went off to groom himself and looked a bit miffed for a while. Poor guy! He was a champ though, and reassurance and gentle handling really go a long way if you have a strong bond with your cat and he/she trusts you. I am doing a 6 month round of frontline (important to start at least a week after the bath, so the natural oils get a chance to re-establish on your cat's coat for it to work) to kill any residual fleas and flea eggs that got a chance to become established in my house. They're nasty little buggers and REALLY hard to get rid of. It's imperative for me to live in a flea-free home since I have terrible histamine reactions to the bites and nearly went into anaphylactic shock when I was around a flea-ridden dog who showed up at my house (very sad case, eventually had to re-home her). Thank god for Benadryl, lol! I hope this info may help anyone who has to bathe their cat for any reason (flea bath or otherwise). Good luck!

To those who think this is abuse: You need to bathe cat's because, Imagine cleaning yourself with your saliva? Do you think you would be clean after that? For example, if they got covered in mud, do you expect them to clean that all by themselves? As stated in my comment, I said "indoor-only cats." Under normal circumstances--I've had cats all my life and have never given one a bath--they absolutely do not need to be given a bath UNLESS they have a skin disease or fleas, common sense, but I didn't think I needed to spell that out. Cats are meticulously clean animals and are excellent self-cleaners. Why the heck would an indoor cat be covered in mud??? Use your head.

By your logic, instead of washing the petrol off so the cat didn't ingest it while trying to groom and clean itself, she should have let the cat just clean off the petrol by itself right? So, SO silly, no sense whatsoever in people that say you shouldn't bathe your cats. Cats (especially kittens who get into everything) sometimes have some truly horrendous stuff getting into their fur either during play time or by accident, and sometimes it isn't safe to let them take care of it themselves, we need to step in and wash it off properly. I give my kittens a bath weekly so that when they get older, if any such thing should happen and they get a dangerous substance on their fur that needs to be washed out they won't be so afraid while having their bath. Cats hate their fur getting wet because the fur then sticks to their body. Also, about "animal in the wild", yes, they have natural instinct, but that doesn't make the bathroom the wild. Also, I don't know if you've ever noticed this, but cats can get smelly, kinda like how our breath stink after a while. Sometimes, it's good to kill the bacteria that their mouths don't really kill. Cats can easily get into garbage, feces, etc, so it might be a good idea to take care of that. And I've seen what bad hygiene can do to a cat. I had an old cat for eight months, and he was abandoned, as far as I know, and he was so dirty. When I gave the poor little guy baths, the water coming out of his fur was brown, and I am happy that he at least felt cleaner before he passed on. The poor guy was so sweet and loving, but being an outdoor cat meant that he was vulnerable to many diseases and such.

Some cats do not adequately clean themselves. It is perfectly fine to give a cat a bath with shampoo for cats. For those saying that you are putting the cat under too much stress are misinformed. Most of this "crying" is just complaining. People who don't give their animals baths when they NEED them are the same people who refuse to enforce their toddlers to use a toilet. If your kid can walk and talk, they most definitely can use the restroom. Tough love is something no one knows how to use anymore....

you guys need to stop with the “HES ABUSING THE CAT!!” comments, cats aren’t meant to love baths but Cheetah could’ve been really, really dirty, and the owner obviously wasn’t gonna let his cat roam the house with dirt in his fur. I know from personal experience.
My lovely girl (nugget) was really dirty from playing outside & I was responsible of keeping her clean. She had the same reactions, clinging onto the faucet and kicking, screaming. Some cats react differently to baths, some just are pretty vocal and overreactive & some are chill.

If this was abuse, the owner wouldn't be clearly trying to calm the cat down. If it was abuse, they would want to see it stressed. Not only that, but sometimes a cat can get so dirty that cleaning themselves off with their tongue would make them sick.

Your cat is absolutely adorable. The way you spoke to him was evidence that you were not trying to harm him but comfort him.
As a cat owner myself, I don't see anything wrong with giving cats a bath. I have two cats, both were shelter animals. One of the cats I adopted lost his mother at an early age and never learned how to properly groom himself. The other cat as tried to groom him, but to no avail. Because he does not groom himself, he needs a bath every week. That was the only way we could fix his dry skin and all the loose hair that had been lost but did not fall off his body.
Just like us humans, cats develop dry skin or dandruff. Some cats, like long haired cats can develop matted coats. Every animal outdoor and indoor needs baths. To anyone who disagrees, I hope you enjoy the fact that you not washing your animals is considered a form of neglect.

Well, I own a cat as well, but we never let it outside, so we just let our cat bathe itself and not worry about it, so there has been a way to prevent it.

actually... cats clean them selves by licking. I have a cat myself and had him for like 8 or 9 years now, we have never gave him a bath and he is completely fine. The fur falling off the cat could be a medical problem if it is falling off in big clumps, but tiny amounts is normal especially in summer. My cat has had fleas but that is because foxes lived here, we just simply gave him some flea tablets in his food and a little liquid drop on his fur and that sorted him out. Cats don't have strong smells, the only way you can tell if your cats stinks is by having your nose right near them. Why you sniffing cats for?
So in conclusion, YOU don't know what your talking about.
They self groom. If they need flea treatment there are SOO many other options than a bath. The vet also is a good place to go🙄

I bathed my cat with a detachable shower head (if you have one) get the water to the perfect temperature (not too warm, not too cold) and calm your cat down for a little while with petting and reassurance before the bath. My cat resisted a bit when I first put him in the tub with the water on, so I gently but firmly scruffed him and held the shower head close to him to saturate his fur quickly. I also got in the actual bathtub with him and let the water run over myself first so he could see that it wasn't going to hurt me or him, and gave me closer contact so I wasn't looming over him in a threatening/over-domineering manner. He was kinda more in my lap with water going over the both of us, so it was sort of an "all of us involved'' thing. I really feel that trust is the key. He did struggle a bit, and I did get a few scratches in the process (not intentional, just from the awkward struggle), but it's important to remain calm. Your cat is probably in way more distress than you since he/she doesn't fully understand the situation. He's now strictly an indoor cat (started out as an outdoor complete feral) with a semi-long beautiful tuxedo coat, and had gotten fleas from a stray/feral that belongs to one of my idiot neighbors who leaves her outside with no food (I pity-feed her occasionally, she's so skinny ;_;) that snuck into my garage, and subsequently my house when I was moving a dryer in from the garage (probably because she was hungry). My cat needed a flea bath after fleas from that cat got into my house (arGGGH!) and onto my cat. When I could sense he was going to panic a bit, I took the water away and gently stroked his chin and face and spoke softly to him, cradled him, told him he was a good boy, and he calmed down. It was a bit of a messy process, since I obviously got SOAKED, and I was wearing two pairs of thickish leggings so he'd have something to grip onto, but his claws couldn't pierce through easily and cut my legs up. He is NOT declawed. I would never EVER in a million years declaw a cat. He did not cry or even meow during the entire bathing process. Towards the end he sort of just gave up (poor guy ;_; ) and let it happen. The flea shampoo needs to sit on the fur for at least a few minutes, and the tub should have minimal standing water so the medicated shampoo does not immediately wash off and gets a chance to kill the fleas/scare them out. I thoroughly washed the shampoo out (very important) afterwards for a good few minutes, and he stayed pretty calm from then on. Immediately afterwards I wrapped him up in a warm, dry towel and stroked him, telling him he was a good boy and gave him treats and dried him off a bit. A few minutes later, he went off to groom himself and looked a bit miffed for a while. Poor guy! He was a champ though, and reassurance and gentle handling really go a long way if you have a strong bond with your cat and he/she trusts you. I am doing a 6 month round of frontline (important to start at least a week after the bath, so the natural oils get a chance to re-establish on your cat's coat for it to work) to kill any residual fleas and flea eggs that got a chance to become established in my house. They're nasty little buggers and REALLY hard to get rid of. It's imperative for me to live in a flea-free home since I have terrible histamine reactions to the bites and nearly went into anaphylactic shock when I was around a flea-ridden dog who showed up at my house (very sad case, eventually had to re-home her). Thank god for Benadryl, lol! I hope this info may help anyone who has to bathe their cat for any reason (flea bath or otherwise). Good luck!

To those who think this is abuse:
You need to bathe cat's because, Imagine cleaning yourself with your saliva? Do you think you would be clean after that? Yes cat's do clean the outside of their fur and it is good for them but, you also need to bathe them to get under their fur and clean the saliva out so that they don't stink and develop parasites! Even if cats don't like water you have to do it even if you don't want to. If you love your cat then you need to give them proper care which requires you giving a bath every month.
