- The Atari 2600+ has started shipping, and after being told it was unlikely we'd be able to receive a reviewers' bundle, the kind people at PLAION contacted us and reversed that decision. We are so excited to have the opportunity to look not only at the 2600 Plus, but this remarkably well-designed promotional package with all the new elements from Atari.
Full review coming soon, but in the meantime, please join me as I enjoy opening up this stunning package of Atari goodies!

Wonderful that you got one. It takes me back to when I got mine for Christmas the year it came out. My Mama and brother had it hid under the couch and had gift wrapped Space Invaders. I opened it and panicked because I said you can’t play this without the Atari! Screams of joy filled out house and all of 4th ave where we lived. Thank you for this video. I can’t wait to get one of my own ordered.
Dude!! Duuuuude!!! I am so incredibly happy for you! I could hear how happy you were in your voice! Thank you for the passion you possess behind your channel. That review unit is well deserved!!! I am looking forward to the full review!!
I guess I'm one of the lucky Atari preorders, got mine today with the paddle set. This thing.... is gorgeous. Just beautiful. And it plays so well. I know there are a few emulation issues and plans for firmware updates probably, but to me playing it today it just felt right. I mean just really well done. And I usually like to play retro games/consoles with filters and this has none, but you know what? The colors, the image sharpness, the smoothness - it just all looks amazing. The cartridge slot is maybe a little more finicky than original. I just scarfed a few cheap loose carts of standard classics off eBay, and yeah condition was a possible issue, but only one of them gave me some trouble before it started to work. Just make sure they're clean and firmly and fully inserted. This is like Christmas 1981 for me.
I'm glad you got one! I specifically haven't watched anyone else's reviews because I know you'll cover it with the same giddy nostalgia that I share for the 2600, but you'll also review it fully and fairly!
In your review I do hope that you'll try out the new carts (particularly the 10 in 1 and 4 in 1) on a classic 2600. I can't imagine they wouldn't be compatible but I'd just like to see it.
Thanks for a fun unboxing video!
Congratulations, Jon! This is the first one of these press kit unboxings that hasn't annoyed me. Thanks for sharing your genuine excitement! Looking forward to the review!
Good for you Jon! Congratulations on receiving the very cool review unit.
Hey man, coming from someone who runs a few small social media things, I know how much it can mean when things click together. I can hear the happiness in your voice and I'm so glad you got that unit man...I'll be here for the review!
I appreciate that! 😁
Congrats Guys!
Videos like these are a joy to see, as a fan like we are your enthusiasm is remarkable and well shared with the users who are watching this!
I'm really looking forward to seeing you test this thing out and give us an expert analysis. Your enthusiasm is palpable. That stick stiffness (giggity) is really important to have in place! Congrats, buddy.
I like how they looked at the list of reviewers and realized a mistake was made and someone was left off.
I just bought the GameStation based on your videos. I love it and as far as I'm concerned you earned this big time. Enjoying your videos. Keep them coming!
Congratulations on receiving the demo unit! Looking forward to the demo! I have to tell you though, my experience with receiving my unit and my order have not been good so far. There have been a lot of complaints with the way amazon has handled this release so far. Some of us have commented or talked to Atari on Facebook, but haven't received a reply. I pre-ordered my unit day one, August 25-ish, I pre-ordered the paddle bundle as soon as that was announced as well as Berzerk. Was originally told that everything was being released November 17th. Still haven't received anything. The 2600 has shipped as of yesterday, but Amazon emailed me asking me to approve my pre-orders with a month or longer delay. I've never seen this happen before with all the stuff I purchased or pre-ordered. Either way it is truly frustrating to all of us who are still waiting even though we were the first to order one.
That's really unfortunately and I'm sorry you're experiencing that.
That's a stunning presentation box they came up with. I would put that in a locked glass cabinet just to stare at for the rest of my life. I love your videos and I'm so glad I found this channel. Also, I want your Atari hat!
Christmas came early for someone! Congratulations! Its a milestone in a way. They appreciate and respect you as a legitimate retro gaming youtuber!
I loved your giddiness! I *completely* identify, and appreciate your sharing it with us and letting us experience it vicariously. Looking forward to your reviews!
Been waiting for this one. Edit to add: this video was not what I expected, but was even better after I understood the context. Congrats on getting the review unit
Well deserved!! The work you have put in, and the quality of content you put out, this is very well deserved. Oh man, I do wish Atari had given the option of buying this as a "deluxe collectors eddition". Enjoy!
True!
SCORE!! Glad you received one. I get your excitement completely. I would feel the same way. My heart skipped a beat when I got the notice my order, with everything in the review bundle you have, will be shipping soon. I can hardly wait . Keep up the great job you do and awesome your work is recognized. Thank you!
Congrats! So happy for your success and excitement in this!
Thanks. Us too! 😁
I caution anyone measuring a channel’s success by companies willingness to send them free products.
@@ClunkerSlim I measure success in my ability to sustain myself an my family.
Congratulations on receiving the reviewer's box! Thank you for taking the time to make this video of the unboxing and sharing all the details including pointing out the actual shape and slope of the 2600+ outer box. You are the first I have seen to do this and it really added an extra dimension of inclusion in the opening process.
When you are doing the review, would you be able to touch on your thoughts of this unit compared to the Gamestation Pro in terms of game play and feel/use of the contolers? Thank you in advance!
I think he should stay away from any comparisons in the review. Comparisons can be left to a separate video.
@@jeremiahthomas8140 A separate video giving a full comparison would be great! Thanks for adding the suggestion!!
Well done, you deserve it, the channel deserves it, and great to see your excitement like a kid on Christmas Day!
This is awesome. I thought it was a huge oversight that you didn't get one. I'm glad they rectified that. Well deserved! Thanks for sharing. My "regular" (lol) delivery should be here on Wednesday
Your passion for this is actually starting to get me a little excited for you.
Congratulations Jon!!!! Fantastic and I'm glad you got one to review for everyone.
I'm so happy for you (and a little jealous - lol). Glad to see this post! Hope the channel keeps growing!
So AWESOME!!!! I am happy for you and jealous at the same time! I have been waiting for this video! It's a shame about the box but I would still be happy!
Hi there, I'm the producer on the Atari 2600+, I've been watching your quality content for a while, you did a great comparison video on the 2600+ and the MyArcade Gamestation. I super pleased to see you got the press kit and its great to watch your enthusiasm for it! I hope you have lots of fun with the machine. All the best Ben
Thanks, Ben.
it would be so cool if Atari finally released the Atari cosmos in some form I think and I'm not alone
I also must say this was by far the best 2600+ unboxing video I have watched. Great job.
Hahaha! Thanks - you're too kind. I know this was a pretty rushed video, but I had to open it and there was no way I WASN'T going to share that experience!
Jon, congrats on getting this! It was great meeting you in person at Free Play Florida! Thanks again for the patch and I look forward to more content in the future.
It was entirely my pleasure, Brian!
I'm glad you got one since you cover a lot of Atari stuff on the channel. I'm hoping to get mine in the mail soon to make it worthwhile to even talk about
Congrats Jon! Thanks for the video! Definitely interested in learning more about any changes in the controllers vs the original controllers - weight, feel, sensitivity, etc.
That’s awesome! Glad you were able to get one.
Hey man congrats on the growth and getting this 2600+ package! You have been putting ou great content like made with great love and enthusiasm.
I appreciate it!
So happy for you getting the recognition you deserve. Your channel is definitely one of my favourites for Atari and min arcade content.
As to the device, I am tempted... although if honest, ever since a certain someone showed me how to hack the Atari 50th Anniversary Flashback to put all the games 🙂, I am not too sure if I want this now, as despite me having the original console, CRT and carts...The only tempting advantage for me is the 7800 compatibility, but without a second fire button or a Pro controller I can buy, I may as well use emulation and launchbox on PC. I guess without ability to use flashcarts, homebrew, I am not entirely sure who this is for.
I find the lack of a manual and naff sleave of the games very disappointing and a major miss step of Atari. I hope that's only for the review copies.
One thing I would love if you could perhaps check... Is these paddles and controllers (Joystick and paddle) compatible with the Flashback Gold 50th Anniversary and/or PC) as I may pick up the controllers if they work.
Thanks again for all your efforts with the channel.
The new controllers and paddles are compatible with the AtGames Atari Flashback units and vice versa. The controllers and paddles included with AtGames Atari Flashback units are compatible with original 2600 and this 2600+. When I got my 2600+ today I didn't even unbox the new controllers, I just hooked up the AtGames repros I already had laying around.
We're all coming over to your house to play! 😉 So excited for you!
Congrats Jon! I'm happy for you sir!
GenXGU is becoming one of my favorite channels.
Happy for you man! Good to see your channel grow, I enjoy it a lot. Looking forward to the review
Glad you got it. Gxg has great production value and soo much Atari coverage, it would be a shame if they didn't send you one. I still kind of want on just to have and occasionally play with. Congrats man, you should show off the 5200/7800, I forget which other system it is compatible with sry. Other than the 2600, I never really saw later Atari consoles. Also that packaging is giving me 60's-70's sci-fi design vibes lol. Like it belongs in the background of Logan's run somewhere or an episode of Buck Rogers.
I was really surprised that you hadn't put a review up so I'm so happy you're on this company's radar now. In your review, please stress the need to clean the cartridge connectors. Yes, it's a brand new machine but it can't run carts caked in decades old dirt!
Hey Jon, congrats! I'm so glad to see you getting the recognition that is so well deserved! 🎉
Great Stuff! Looking forward to the review.
What a nice bundle, I would love to have one in my living room, congratulations Jon!😄
Congratulations! Looking forward to your review.
Thanks, Earl! 😁
Loving the excitement - good on you 🎉
So happy for you Jon and the growth of your channel keep up the excellent work!
Thank you! Will do!
This is very cool Jon. Thank you for all that you do on your You Tube Channel. I appreciate your videos and enthusiasm.
How cool is that. I wouldn't be holding back any excitement either. Looking forward to the review.
Well done, bit of history right there
Man, you EARNED this! Loved the video and the enthusiasm!
Super Awesome Jon! The last time I saw you this excited was in your legendary E.T. Atari landfill excavation video. So happy you got one and looking forward to the definitive review :-) Keep up the awesome work!
It looks amazing! Congratulations, Atari!
Nice one mate, I'm not jealous at all, not even one little but, no really! Looking forward to the review, would like to know how those paddles are, maybe do one of your tape tests on them in the review?
Thanks. Oh, there will be tape! 🤣
congrats, happy for you and our community so enjoy and thank you for sharing
For sure! 😁
Totally cool man. I bet you start making more lists for this stuff soon.
The box, unit, controllers and carts all look beautiful! Congrats on a very cool acquisition for GxG and for getting some seriously nice recognition from Atari. 🎉
Thanks a bunch!
I just love how excited you are. 😊
I'm subdued. 😉
Like a kid in a candy store lol, makes me smile guess ill be the same way when mind shows up on wed, happy for ya big guy, ill let you know when my 1up machine arives, enjoy il get mind for thanksgiving on wed, atari dropped the ball on that, lot of people are receiving it earlier who ordered on amazon..Cant wait been ordering games on amazon i dont have lol...
Congrats, Jon! I'm flashing back to when I got my 2600 as a kid. Unwrapping the two layers of gift wrap just to find my electronic best friend of my childhood was one of the biggest moments of my youth.
Enjoy!
P.S. If you cuzz out of enjoyment in your full review, you'll get a pass.
Hahaha! I'll try to contain myself. I promise the review will be more coherent than this quick unboxing!
I really need to see your review of the paddle controllers. I've seen mixed reviews. That will be the deciding factor for me.
Man! This is SOOOO COOOOL! I love it! Even the box is cool. I wanna see how the dipswitch carts work.
Much respect, Jon - onwards and upwards!
Congratulations Jon!
You’ve given us a lot of interesting content over the years, you deserve it
Thanks for the kind words!
Congrats. Nice looking package. Cant wait for a review. Just one request. Can you test out kaboom! With the paddles? I haven't seen anyone else test out that game yet. Oh and star raiders with the keypad?
It's nice to hear someone that is truly happy! Great video..I loved the happy laughing
I couldn't help it! Thank you for watching. 😁
The flash Back Gold that had the switches was something. I own it proudly. But… having this is just amazing
Hey man, no shame in being giddy with excitement. As someone who is old enough to remember when Atari launched their home consoles in the late 70s early 80s, I would be super stoked. I didn't get my 2600 until later because I kinda grew up pretty poor, but when I did get one, it made those Florida summers bearable due to not having to be in the sweltering heat all day. Great show, great channel. I hope you continue to grow beyond measure, you really seem genuine and nice. Take care bud.
Thanks, fellow Floridian! 😀
I would rather get a Atari flashback, how glad you finally got your Atari 2600+
Enjoy, Jon. Pop those lighted carts in there and rock it!
First!!! Time for an in depth review. I want to know if there is a way to add games and not use our old crusty carts. OTG cable maybe??? Have fun and looking forward to more intel...🙂
Noted!
If you want to add games, just get a Retron 77 instead of this and install the community firmware. Assuming you’re getting this to play 2600 games, that is!
that box is way cool! i been waiting for your vids on the 2600+. ive seen a few other vids on it but you will be the one i trust when it comes to how the joystick and paddles feel as you have experience with the originals. I have one question for your review ... HOW DO THE PADDLES PLAY?? LOL.... any lag? You know ive been the one that keeps asking about paddle lag on these atari units. looking forward to your actual gameplay review and to see what the dip switches do with the undocumented settings! and im definitely looking forward to a future video from you regarding SD cards/USB Sticks and possible expansion! haha. KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON !!!!!!
What took them so long! Congratulations on making the list! Next step, top of the list!
Congratulations Jon! Your hard work is paying off! Well deserved!
Congratualtions on that sweet press kit. On AtatiAge, some people are saying the difficulty switch positions are reversed. Play Breakout and change the switch. It should be obvious since the difficulty switch changes the size of the paddle.
B should be the larger paddle, and a should be the smaller one.
Actually, scratch that. Play Video Olympics instead. Start game one, and then adjust the difficulty switches. B should be the larger paddles and a should be the smaller one. The right difficulty switch should control you on the right side, and the left difficulty switch should control the computer on the left side.
Of course if you have a copy of Space Invaders around, just plug that in, go to a two-player simultaneous games, and see if it changes the size of the player ships correctly.
The left and right buttons on the 7800 controller are also reversed. Maybe the 2600+ is from the mirror universe.
Great pre unboxing monologue. The same excitement I would have felt if I’d got one too. Thank you for bringing back the excitement of the 2600. I can recall the excitement I felt unboxing my 2600 the day it came out. Great unboxing too. Shame about the corner of the lid. I do like everything I own to be pristine. Can’t wait for the review. Enjoy your American thanksgiving and get into it.
Awesome - you deserve to get this set...great reviews...thanks!
Thanks for watching!
here waiting for the review!!😊
Thanks for the review and sharing.
My pleasure!
Very nice, look forward to the review.
I want to see games tested like mad, especially as many of the "untested" games as you can. Also homebrews, flashcarts, games from various publishers, 7800 games, 7800 homebrews, various controllers. Do Sega Master System controllers work? How tight is the cartridge connector? Do the Starraiders keypad and BASIC keyboard controllers work? Basically, try and think of anything that is unusual that the super casual reviewer probably won't think to cover.
When you picked up the paddle, I could feel it... But our hands were smaller back then!
aww, you're so nice and neat with your box opening tools. next unboxing i do im gonna go crazy on the box like an animal
That was some hotness right there. IMHO you weren't giddy enough! This is our childhood coming back 👍
Excellent !
Jon, this is cool pal. AND at that, they sent you a review unit! Good on you, pal
I know this isn’t by AtGames. I’m getting AtGames Genesis Flashback vibes, and no, that’s not a dig, I’m a fan of the Genesis Flashback (SD card model aka the good one) because of the cartridge slot. Will this device have SD card or USB function for firmware updates (cough Roms cough)?
So awesome you were able to get one!!! Love the channel.
Thanks so much!!
@@GenXGrownUp you’re welcome. So the controllers are built exactly like the original ones?
@@johnrossi6212 I haven't done a teardown, but it feels for all the world like a direct reproduction.
How cool! Thank you for sharing
Great unit and box! I just got mine today. I just ordered the standard unit, my copy of Mr Run and Jump hasn't landed yet either. I am debating getting the paddles, but having to spend $150 for free shipping, or pay the extra $12 isn't appealing to me. I think you should try the new Atari XP and Limited Edition XP cartridges with the 2600+.
I got mine in but I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it or not so it's unopened. The 1UP Arcde joystick looks a lot better as it has a sd card slot and isn't limited to just using cartridges.
Congratulations for Atari 2600+. Pimp my Atari 2600+!
Congratulations Jon! I got mine a few days ago (probably when you got yours) and have been testing some carts. So far so great, as I'm sure you know. One thing I noticed in space invaders, on the modern tv, the "bullets" will tend to disappear and reappear. I did all the settings, game mode, noise reduction off, etc. and it still occurs. I'm wondering what you see.
Awesome package
Very!
I want that big ass Atari box! 😊😊😊
Nice! I saw a video pop up, the Harmony Cart only works in single-game mode. Maybe you could test the Uno Cart or the 7800 HQ Gamedrive cart….Have fun with the review!
So happy for you, and great unscripted unboxing!
Congratulations on the milestone! Let us know what power source you use for the usb cable for the unit.
I got mine on the 16th, 1 day early. And I'm in a timezone 9h later than you guys!
Stiff and rubbery...brings back memories!
