Love game but my copy also had that too-deep insert which led to overstuff and bulging box. In turn led to Rulebook slipping and top edge folded over. Nothing that is a game stopper or demanding of a refund but I was a bit surprised because GMT is usually exceptionally high production standards.
Complicated, yes, but it's no Harpoon 5. I went all-in on this series, too, and have played a bit in Vassal. I haven't seen a Baltic Approaches Vassal compilation yet, though. I would have no problem adapting this system to a WWIII North Cape campaign (sans or otherwise abstracting subs).
Very intrigued by the looks of this game though not familiar w it. Is the base game land based? How does this game compare to Downtown which I've long wanted to obtain (though I've yet to ever play it)? I'll be more inclined to Downtown because of the era and location but this Ref Storm looks to have similar theme albeit different era.
Reasonably complicated 😉. It’s a pretty complex game that demands precision and careful planning. The larger scenarios will and do, take a long time to play. A knowledge of modern operational air combat tactics is a prerequisite to get the most out of the system. Works very well via VASSAL as do all the other games in the series, Downtown, Elusive Victory… Far more air to air than Downtown is the primary reason that the scenarios take longer to play.

Similar system to Downtown.

Warsaw vs Nato conflict, interesting. Hopefully it remains hypothetical. Interesting game, thanks for review.
WWIII very soon.
