@@HerreDePerre Our government secretly funneled weapons to gangs in our country in the mid 1900s. Needless to say, our criminals are well armed (albeit illegally). Most of us see it fit to be able to defend ourselves from them. Also, in the United States, unlike Europe, many of us live in more secluded areas prone to animal attacks from bears, coyotes, etc and also want to be able to defend our families from such cases.
Here's a suggestion. Several cans of Hornet/Wasp spray is very effective for several reasons. First, it wont be confiscated. Second, it can spray a 20 foot stream under pressure. This stuff is nasty!! It will temporary blind an attacker and you can hit them from up to 20 feet away. A well placed facial shot with most definitely disable anyone. The trick is to stay away from up close contact, and render the assailant as ineffective. Then use your tribal club. I wish I was as considerate as you but I grew up in Bronx, NY and had to defend my property in the BVI on a 46 Lagoon. We were boarded at around 2:00am for top side treats including the dingy. They got zilch. We had several boats withing yelling distance that we introduced ourselves too when we arrived. It is an unspoken rule that others will come to your aid. One of the nearby cruisers jumped in his dingy and chased down the perps as we called the Harbor Master near Road Town. They were apprehended. I was told about the insect spray by the guy who helped us. He was from Australia. Don't mess with the folks from down under............... Bossman
Bossman59 is trust a gun over some damn bug spray 😂 only reason that Aussie had to use bug spray was because his country don’t allow guns to be owned by citizens.
Then by all means Bruh, bring an illegal gun to a foreign "Banana Republic" and don't declare it! Locked-up abroad will certainly do a story on whats left of you about 5 years into your 20 year stint! Besides, whats your wheel gun going to do against AK's?? What a dumb response...........
Then hit your knees and beg for mercy! You spray that shit at someone from 15 to 20 feet away and it does enough damage to make them jump ship, or blind them enough for you to pounce. Mace is only effective up close, but of course you knew that because you get ALL your pertinent information from UA-cam.
Two Australia yachts recently disappeared entirely without explanation, one in the Indonesian Archipelago and the other in the Caribbean, assumed to be fatal Pirate attacks.
Awesome Episode! Good information! You two are awesome! Excellent info! Way to trust your guts! I’m impressed with the way you approach the firearm issue, neither for nor against! In these days it’s an easy topic to just say they are bad, and move on, but neither of you did that! My hats off to you! Great advice without even getting close to legal advice! I’m impressed! It’s also nice to see a man be honest and voice his desire to protect his family! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was told to me by a militia and security expert that also specialised in womens self defense. If you have a weapon it could very easily end up in the hands of your attacker and be used against you, so pick your poison carefully. His recommendation was always to have a "bush-saw"or a drywall saw onder your car seat, your mattress whatever you are trying to protect. Attach as strong wrist strap to prevent it being lost, They have a reasonable length blade and a very rough (often 2-sided) tooth pattern. No one would ever be able to pull it out of your hands without cutting their own hands to shreds, so basically once they try to block or grab at your saw they will realise it hurts, and often the surprise/scare will make them run for the hills. Good luck out there!!
A friend's family sailing off west coast of Columbia tailed by a fishing boat for days blew up balloons, let one go and tested the scope on their rifle. Fishermen left.

We found having a small German Shepherd (50 pounds) aboard is the best security. Ours starts barking at an approach of 300 feet. She barks at every passing craft with a motor letting us know what is up. When we've gone ashore, our nearest moored boat friends have told us that persons in canoes and small boats have pulled up to our boat to check it out and suddenly, Jolie appears on deck. That solves the problem immediately. She makes a lot of noise, stands 3 feet above anyone sitting in a small boat, and she can bite anyone who raises a hand to get on board. Other friends swear by having a 22 pound rat terrier dog. Their dog absolutely was the best guard dog I've ever seen. She had excellent vision and extremely acute hearing. I paddled up to their boat on a raft at night to invite them over to our boat the next day. Ginger was having none of it. She had a fit and was quite threatening at 50 feet. She heard me. Her owners were reassured by all of these behaviors. Why? Because thieves will decide there are easier boats to steal from than have to deal with a dog.
Thank you, for this video. A lot of people who sail gloss over the dangers that can happen, so I appreciate you being realistic and giving helpful tips. That fire extinguisher called also be used in a house as self defence. In the UK we are not allowed to defend our homes with weapons.
I used to walk on deck with a plastic toy M16, that usually kept them away and the word got around, after a couple of times, none dare to get closer than 300 meters. When I needed fish, I gave them the sign to come closer.
A flir camera will do but yes you will be asleep but its better then nothing.. and im pretty sure u can set up a auto alarm to warn u if a big object is nearing.
Thats a good idea. Nightvision! Like it! I was thinking about installing a gopro and floodlight up the mast, bow and stern. Set up survellience screen at the nav desk in the cabin. Then you could flood the area around the boat with light when needed. ALSO, ELECTRIFY the boats rails and zap em as they attempt to board. Then, when all else fails, and they are coming for ya, doublebarrel. Done. No more threat.
This was really helpful. Many sailors will not share security information online, but I appreciate that you spent the time to share valuable knowledge.

I also carry a marine grade pump shotgun(NICKEL PLATED WINCHESTER 12GA) but I prefer not to kill someone for stupid life choices.
If you're worried about killing them, load up some rock salt shells. Just shoot mid low to low, and they have a good 99% chance of living to reflect on their idiotic mistake. (My grandpa used to shoot guys with salt rock here when I was little. People would try to come on our property and steal from the trucks and etc.)
As someone who lives in the Caribbean, I can say that being on the water is just as bad as being on the island. Recently, a boat full of dead bodies washed up on my country's shore. There have been many stories over the news of killing at sea, dead bodies washing up on various islands. Some of our local fishermen have been robbed of their boat one time and they were forced to jump into the water naked where the robbers left them.

And then they have 2 extra pirates with AK 47 and are like : *Bruh , really ?"*
Neither do foreign countries your visiting.........

daniel kars Wait, isn’t everyone?
That’s a brilliant idea for hand to hand combat! Innocent enough as well to not provoke the attacker of they do have concealed gun
Drywall saws are one usually one-sided, not very sharp, and super flimsy

Rule #1: Don't be white or appear as American.

The fishermen here in the Philippines usually want to sell you their catch. This is common for them when they see visitors or tourists.
@The Most Interesting Man On UA-cam they usually catch fish at night if you don't know.🙄🙄🙄🙄
True.
It's easier to catch fish at night. Fish are attracted to light. That why most fishermen fish from 10pm to 2am.

Some of our local fishermen have been robbed of their boat one time and they were forced to jump into the water naked where the robbers left them.
