Stunning bit of Rail Road technology! Hopefully all American-made?? Hope so. 65 years ago I lived next to an unballasted Boston and Maine branch. Putt Putts would bring work gangs out with shovels and picks to clean and re-dig the drain lines on either side every couple of years. The freight and commuter rail was s-l-o-w and always rocking and rolling up the track. Everyone wore overalls and engineer hats.
as info, this is a *Shoulder Ballast Cleaner.* it only cleans the ballast on the berm. this removes debris which allows water to flow from the track more freely.
There are beautiful locomotives and beautiful rail cars. However, all track maintenance equipment is purely functional. At best, track maintenance equipment looks like some futuristic insect. It is beautiful in it's functionality, but rarely in it's form.
Ho much drama can 1 machine hold? You've got flashing lights, spinning giant wheels, vibrating conveyor belts, shoots hanging off of it, smoke, brushes underneath, strange sounds,. and in the end not much has changed.
This is a first for me, never seen such a piece of equipment before.
Amazing video
Thank You
