West Highland Way - Stage 1

- Stage 1 of the West Highland Way.
I cover the beginning of the WHW starting at Milngavie to Conic Hill. This section of the hike is flat and paved paths, after a few miles you hit Conic Hill which I would say is when the trail starts to get real scenic as you look over the beautiful Loch Lomond and surrounding area.
Personally, I decided to not stick to schedule routes that are recommended and wanted to enjoy the views and the walk. I hope this video helps if you are planning on doing the trail and want some ideas of places to wild camp especially in the next few episodes.
Enjoy! xox

Sorry I'm late to the party. But only just seen your video. Even though it was 3 years ago, you were really lucky to be able to camp on conic Hill and not be absolutely wind swept off there. I have done the West highway 3 times and every single time the top of conic Hill is way too windy to camp. You were very lucky, looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos.
Yes, you were right the first time; Drymen is pronounced "drimm'n" (confusingly, later on you'll come to Tyndrum, which is pronounced "tine-dr'm"). Nice to see our old home in Blanefield on shots from your first night's campsite above Strathblane at Ardoch.
Super refreshing to see a young person who clearly loves the outdoors so much. Thanks or filming, Andy
Fantastic! The tinted water is coloured by peat. As You stand on Conic hill you are actually standing on a fault line. At the top of Conic hill everything to your right is "Highlands" and everything on the left is "Lowland". To your left all of the stone is soft sand stone and everything to your right or North is Granite or slate hard stone.
Really Nice video and Beautiful nature. Like to do the hike.Thank you Very Much. 😊😅🤗
I'm not even that far away from you. Welcome back to Scotland again. You'll always be welcomed here. Have a safe adventure ❤
It’s a fantastic trail having walked it three times 🏴👍
Cant get boring??
its amazing to see people traveling to Scotland to do this journey many people don't appreciate what is on our door step. peace and love
The walking/hiking community is so friendly! You meet genuinely lovely people!!!
Totally agree!
@@GirlOutdoors thank you so much for your wonderful videos! I think I speak on behalf of thousands that they really are a fantastic break from the current situation we find ourselves in!
Hope you, your family and everyone who subscribes, keeps safe and healthy 🙏🙏
Backpacking the West Highland Way is on my bucket list. Such a gorgeous area and Loch Lomond is beautiful.
100% go for it!
I can’t do this sort of thing now as my knees are knackered so it’s great to see others doing it. Very engaging screen presence. It’s a joy to see people laugh easily and softly

Excellent insight for anyone looking to hike this trail and pleasing to see it being done at a quieter time of year.
Fantastic views and great commentary, looking forward to watching your 2nd stage.
Conic Hill ....I-Conic sight...wow. The footage of the beautiful sun going down is breathtaking, thanks for sharing ;-)
Yesss. I did it in 84 and have been waiting for you to do this one. Go Bex.
Looks like you had a great time and it’s great to have met a friend. Enjoy the rest of your journey.
Hey Becky
Freya said to look this up, great to watch, I stupidly ran it in 2018 in just over 24hrs so great to watch at a normal pace, keep exploring and posting.
Andy Thatcher
Milngavie....translates as Moulin Gavie...David's Mill, who was King David I of Scotland. It is now the site of a wonderful Indian Restaurant.
You are so lucky i would love to visit scotland hope u had fun u can fell the history up there..great place for thinking on life..take care
Done the WhW and most of Cape Wrath North to South before, was planning on abroad treks for next year until Covid, so I've decided to do the WhW, then Summit Ben Nevis, and then the Cape Wrath trail in one big trek next summer. Absolutely love the Scottish countryside, apart from the midges in the summer
Looks like a fun hike! Beautiful country.

Done a few long hikes now and if covid hadn't got in the way I would have done WHW at the beginning of Sept. Hopefully do it next year, all things etc etc. Good for you finding someone to talk to and get along the trail with, you look and sound happy about that happening. Me, I'm happy not seeing anyone start to finish, I'll chat here and there to anyone but am much happier clocking up the miles. Keep up the good work, all the best.
And the journey begins. I'm looking forward to following along, Miss Becky!

Amazing view!
Fantastic stuff, absolutely love this.
Many thanks!
The Fun and pain has only just began, looking forward to stage 2 and 3.
Three years ago I went to England but i didn't have much time to get to know many places however through your videos i can live those moments in a natural way through bushcraft and hiking. It will be wonderful to get to know highlands Scotland and enjoy each stage. Also in this video i could see the importance of the weight to carry in the backpack with the most essential elements for a long hiking that you showed in one of your videos.
Saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱
Thank you for your comment :)
Nothing better than getting out in nature and hiking well one more thing better spend the night out nature and having a nice big campfire
Starting the Way myself in April so will be following along to see your take on the route and overnight stops. Thanks for sharing!
Hope you enjoy it!
Becky, that first installment was brilliant. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next.
Many thanks!
First video I have seen of yours, super chill, really enjoyed it!
Welcone back to Scotland 🏴. Nice leisurely pace to start and you've met a pal. It's all good. Next section is the worst, up the side of Loch Lomond. It's very tricky but as long as you take your time youll be fine. Can't wait for the next episode.
Good drills doing this trail in april next yr with the 5 kids and the wife wild camping all the way. Keep up the good drills look forward to pt2
I did the WHW two years ago, and like you met someone on my first night. We walked the rest of it together, and we’re now good friends. We’re planning on doing the Coast to Coast together next year!
That‘s what makes these experiences so wonderful. It’s not just about the walking, but the connections got make along the way too.
aw thats so nice, happy you met a good friend on the trail :)
Great start to your journey happy dayz!! 👣

Hope you enjoyed the trip and the water ? It probably had peat in it . ha ha .Boil it .Strain it and you have the best drinking water in the world . Obviously depends on how you strain it ,But trust me . It will staight'n your teeth and curl your hair . Hope you enjoyed your trip . Don't know if i'd want to come back but if you do you're more than welcome. Don't see how to put smiley faces in here but this reply was tongue in cheek . All the best .
