  • Many older bikes (and cars) have manually adjusted valve clearances that need to be inspected and corrected from time to time. In this edition of SBTV How To, we show you how to adjust valve clearance on engines that use a screw-type adjusting mechanism, using a 1974 Honda CB750K engine as an example.
The techniques shown, though, apply to the setup and clearance measurements on engines using shim adjusters too!

This really clarified the process for me. The manual led me to believe that when the #1 intake valve starts to come up, I should be seeing the T mark for 1.4 - I kept seeing 2.3. But of course that’s exactly how it is in the video - you just keep rotating past that to 1.4 T. I do agree with the other guy that actually *seeing* you rotate the engine 360° would give us some confidence that we’ve done it right. Seems to me if I put a wrench (at, say, 12 o’clock or whatever “oclock” makes sense for you) on the big nut in behind the timing cover and rotate the engine all the way through and back to 12 o’clock again, that’s 360°. So long as the valves I just adjusted are tight and the other ones loose, that should be confirmation.
Anyhow, thanks. This helped clear up the manual for me.

I wish you would have rotated the engine to line up the other valves
