7:35 That anglehead flashlight is a game-changer. Instead of holding a light in your left hand, you can clip the anglehead one to your belt or ALICE webbing and turn it on hands-free. It allows you to use 2 handed weapons inside a building, something you can't do with a regular light.
I spent a month of my first run farming chickens at Ovo Farms (18 hutches, dozens and dozens of chickens there at start), the egg hatch door just allows you to remove eggs (and only remove eggs) while the actual hutch door is closed. The chickens go in and out of the hutch, and closing the hutch door prevents this, namely for keeping them inside of it at night or if there's predators around and you don't want them running off. The chickens all go into the hutch at dusk, if they can, and come back out at dawn, if the door is open (or whenever you open the door the next day). You can just leave the hutch door open, it's only relevant if the meta-event for fox predation is enabled (only on in apocalypse settings I think). But the "egg hatch door" is just to allow you to grab eggs without opening the hutch door to free the chicken. You'll see that if you try to access "Hutch Info" while both doors are closed, it doesn't show you any information -- you can't see into the hutch, don't know how many eggs or chickens are inside, their state, and can't interact with them. PS: Cleaning the hutch before its cleanliness gets red is important, they start getting sickly when their hutch is unclean for extended periods. At Ovo Farms, on default game speed, I had to spend an entire day every ~4-5 days cleaning every hutch... at one point I was going to consolidate all of the chickens into just a few of the hutches, to reduce labour, but the task of moving the dozens of chickens was itself a very labour intensive task I was putting off doing (until I died lmao). RP servers will be able to employ literal, full-time farmers keeping their industrial-scale farming and ranching operations running, but if you've got ~2-3 people running an Ovo Farms-sized operation they can probably provide more than enough eggs to feed themselves and provide a few other players with most of their protein calories. I'm sure pigs, sheep, and cows especially are even more efficient, if you're willing to put the time in to fully benefit from them. Conversely, the mere thought of having to keep track of all the chickens at a large-scale farm just for which ones need butchering and when to butcher them, and then the sheer task of butchering potentially dozens of chickens throughout a year... I think pigs and sheep and cows and goats would be more "fun" to ranch because it's just less labour, because you can fit SO MANY GODDAMN CHICKENS in such a SMALL space compared to other livestock lmao.
i've raised and lived with a ton of backyard chickens. the more you handle them, the more attached they become. loved the time with my birds! Favorite breeds: Brahma (buff variant, big big big birds, feathery feets, hardy for winter, affectionate and curious), Australorp (fantastic layers, delightful personality). best of luck! p/s: rats will eat the eggs. best to keep them out of there...
You need to have the rope in your main inventory, you need 1 rope per animal. As for the chicken coop, you dont need to have it open, just open it when you want to grab eggs.
the hutch holds 40 eggs when full. 30 eggs cooking at once will give you 225xp at level 0 (with the respected skill book) which will bring you to level 2 off the bat. if you want to get lvl 10 cooking, it only takes 1,083 cooked eggs, which is only a fully harvested egg batch 28 times. and all that with the respected skill book multipliers. chicken eggs are a great way of boosting cooking lvl.
Chickens are just *great* in general. I still haven't figured out entirely how to "track" them eating grass and shit properly, because they don't seem to have even started requiring feed (or watering?) yet (at Ovo Farms), but there's also enough chickens and hutches at Ovo's (18 hutches, and... I don't know how many chickens to start, I lost track of counting after I let them keep hatching chicks and breeding unimpeded lmao) and it was physically too laborious to clean and haul all of the eggs (nevermind presumably useful feathers and chicken fertilizer) they made on a daily basis while juggling everything else a survival run needed. I imagine if you had a co-op run with 2-3 ppl at Ovo Farms you could fully man it and produce more than enough eggs to provide the bulk of the calories for everybody at the farm for an entire year, depending on how difficult it is to feed the chickens when fall/winter hit and they've eaten all the grass/the grass dies and you have to provide feed through winter. I imagine the other livestock are much easier to keep because you just aren't dealing with literally dozens of them (like at Ovo's), but I expect they consume grass and feed MUCH faster than the chickens (again, a month in and they seem to be doing fine off the grass alone without extra feed).
Gas station tanks are in the ground, but they're only accessible from a port in the ground (tiny manhole-esque cover in the ground, usually arrayed next to each other directly above the tanks for ease of filling by tankers) designed and located to permit refill tankers to park above them (for extended periods, as refilling the tanks takes at least an hour, and potentially ~3-4 hours or more if the tank was run empty due to holiday traffic or something) and also to allow station attendants and operators to insert long, custom dipsticks used to measure the tanks internal contents and compare the reading to the electronic/mechanical sensors outputted inside (verifying everything is working), the latter of which happens at the beginning and end of every shift (essentially to make sure nobodies come in overnight and tried to siphon out of the tank or, worse, tried to insert weird fluids into a gas tank, if somebody forgot to lock the tank covers after a dipsticking). The tanks aren't accessible from anywhere else, and are physically very separated from any other physical infrastructure, especially an actual station storefront, as the last thing you want is either of those two things having an impact on the other thing. They are, if mishandled, potentially extremely explosive -- and given most gas stations also tend to have above-ground propane storage tanks and/or other volatile compounds, including, usually, lots of other vehicles with their own fuel tanks filled with hydrocarbons that need just a bit of ambient heat to be put under pressure and rendered explosive themselves, ... well, it's important they not be mishandled. Plus, fuel is extremely expensive in bulk, and margins on the resale of that gasoline to consumers at the pump are like, at best, 1-2% (yes, gas stations make almost no profit off the gas -- the profit baked into gas sales are captured by the oil companies selling the gasoline in bulk to the station, refilling it with their tankers, and that profit is retained by those extremely large hydrocarbon companies, not their truckers and ESPECIALLY NOT their customers, the gas station owner-operators), so it's very, very important that every single drop be carefully and accurately accounted for and, most importantly, billed perfectly accurately down to the cent, for everybody involved. A billing or lading error on a single shipment of a tank full of diesel fuel can swing a gas stations monthly net income into the negative, no matter what other side hustles and add-ons and value-adds and borderline scams and advertising deals and car washes and mechanics shops and paid tire pressure refills or whatever else they tack on to try and generate some actual profit (that's why most owner-operated gas stations are just funnels for an auto shop, that extracts actual profit margins off a returning customer base of gas-buyers that you lock in with loyalty programs and station attendants that you train to be very cheery and accommodating and good at customer service).
I think removing all the grass is why lady cluck won't stay. Chickens forage in grass in real life. I've seen ppl move coups to grassier areas once the chickens have gone through it.
I think your water collector on the roof is one space off for the sink to connect. And I think in B42 the water usage is now lasting longer from water sources. Because when you hover over "Drink" when right clicking a water source you can see how much liter is remaining there. Merry Christmas
a lot of chicken coops have little doors straight to the hen nest. Other just have another door big enough for a person to walk in. Really just depends on the Coop. A lot of different types of styles nowadays.
The egg boxes are built in the coop and the chickens should be able to get in and out without issue at any time. Opening the egg hatch is so you can pull the eggs out of the boxes.
In the game you have to go into the hutch info to get the eggs, it doesn't act like a car trunk where you go to the open doors. I do think they need to be open for egg laying.
just mentioning, if you start using guns, change some of the settings (check Ricksdestrix's channel specifically "Can I Survive TRAPPED On The SKYSCRAPER ROOFTOPS? Build 42 Project Zomboid (2)" under live videos, at 2:33:00 for his settings) and also wait for the reticle to turn green for best aim.
I just started setting up my animals last night. Unsure if I did it wrong, but I had to grab chickens individually and drive them back to base. It was a process. But now I have 3 of them so hopefully I'll start getting eggs soon!
Also, nails are crazy hard to find. I'm stationed in Echo Creek and had to go all the way out to Fallas Lake to raid E.P. Tools since my starter towns had zero nails for loot.
There are specific animal trailers used to transport animals that you need to find, otherwise you're doing it the hard way (driving one at a time or walking with rope). If you do have one, carry or guide the animals to the back and right click for the option to put them in and then right click and pick the option to check on the animals. You just have to get lucky finding them, sometimes farms have them (my first time in echo I had 2 and my current character I saw one at a chicken farm factory)
something i think is good, wooden crates dont break anymore. you can just pick them up like a normal box. i hope they keep that change cos breaking the boxes by trying to pick them up for storage was super annoying.
Hey ya! Just commenting to say you can pick up the angled flashlights and if ever you come across an ALICE military rig, you can attach it so you can use two handed weapons in the dark
8:49 I was trying to build an extension of an upper floor earlier and my character started using the sledgehammer as a hammer to get it done 💀 so it might be a bug?
oh also if you look when you checked the baseball park flyer it had a map icon in the bottom right, if you click on it, it will show on the world map the location of the ball park

There's no need for a mod because there're already trailers for animals in the game specifically for them, you just have to find them. Across 2 characters I've only found 3 but they make transportation animals REALLY easy

Im getting a weird glitch where two of my sheep are lacking a bunch of right click options. I can get animal info or attach a rope but not pet or kill them annoyingly. Its really fristrating as theyre right next to a trough but dying of thirst hahaha.
There are specific trailers for animals you can find and they do carry a lot of animals in them. I would be careful with animals because they can, uh, have game breaking bugs. I lost my first 42 character to infinitely spawning pigs i just brought home, he's not dead but i dare not open that save file (ever seen a Minecraft farm that lags the game, its that bad) (All i did was sit down outside fast-forward reading a book to wait out the fog and then bam, my 3 pigs turned into, low ball number, 50 pigs in a matter of seconds. It was funny, unstable be like that)
If you know what one of those trailers looks like irl they are easy to spot but if you've never seen one, look for a roofed trailer, open the back and right click on it to see if there's any option for animals and you'll know for sure. (If you want an example of how many animals can fit in this trailer i could fit 4 chickens, 1 chick, 2 pigs and a piglet with a little room to spare. And thats how i lost my save lol) Yeah I was super panicked by it, i now don't even want to touch pigs but maybe I'll try leather with them, although i started as an engineer this time so I'm worse at it.

@zombie-ash-gaming I'm trying to follow where you are on map and where you're looting, your set up is dope
These videos encourage me to play zomboid by myself (I'm too used to playing with friends in b41)
I’m glad they help 👌🏻
@@zombie-ash-gaming Also if it makes you feel better it took me so long to figure out how to grab the eggs xD
Ca. Get seeds from fresh fruit and veg I belive
Nice! Makes sense actually now you mention it
It ain't much but it's honest work
*Insert meme* 😂😂
cool video, it’s a pity we don’t have such PZ UA-camrs in Russia
Thank you 🍻
You hit 30k!
🍾🍾🍾🍾
There shpuld be no reason to open the egg hatch except to collect eggs. Then again, idk the devs understanding of tgese things
Thanks! I hope they use logical 😂
can you grab dispenser directly?
Yep 👌🏻🍾
loving b42 now that its finally here hoping many new series come of it!
Same here buddy and there definitely will be 💪🏻
We need threats to the farm animals like wolf or coyote and we need a livestock dog or a border collie or guard dog
There is a sandbox setting for foxes to eat chickens if you don't close the hutch door at night
I definitely think dogs will be added soon 100% if not by the devs definitely a mod
YESSSSS!!!!!
💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
begging you to keep the pet rat
👌🏻😂
keep the rat
😂😂
Can you grow weed in this new Update?🍃😃
Yes, you can. I found the recipe magazine for it yesterday, and I'm only using UI mods so it's in the base game now.
Amazing! 😂
😂😂
why the stairs, build wooden floor out the window to the roof
Can’t build out a window unless it changed for b42?
Why not the stairs
@siluss they are very easy to build now also 👌🏻
🤙
💪🏻🍻
You should name the rat "Templeton" (Charlotte's Web) ♥️🤟😎♥️
Love it! 😂
I'm not enjoying b42 I like the light update but other then that seems like they put realism over enjoyment
That’s a shame buddy, hopefully it grows on you 🤞🏻
❤👍👍👍❤💪
💪🏻👌🏻👍🏻🫡❤️🍻
There are specific trailers for animals you can find and they do carry a lot of animals in them.
I would be careful with animals because they can, uh, have game breaking bugs. I lost my first 42 character to infinitely spawning pigs i just brought home, he's not dead but i dare not open that save file (ever seen a Minecraft farm that lags the game, its that bad)
(All i did was sit down outside fast-forward reading a book to wait out the fog and then bam, my 3 pigs turned into, low ball number, 50 pigs in a matter of seconds. It was funny, unstable be like that)
Ah thanks good tip and that sounds like a nightmare but also hilarious! Shame it wrecked your save but like you said that’s unstable for you 😂
If you know what one of those trailers looks like irl they are easy to spot but if you've never seen one, look for a roofed trailer, open the back and right click on it to see if there's any option for animals and you'll know for sure.
(If you want an example of how many animals can fit in this trailer i could fit 4 chickens, 1 chick, 2 pigs and a piglet with a little room to spare. And thats how i lost my save lol)
Yeah I was super panicked by it, i now don't even want to touch pigs but maybe I'll try leather with them, although i started as an engineer this time so I'm worse at it.
@Kimo-Cyrus 👌🏻🫡
