    Not many people know, but Ford had intended to produce a Corsair model for 1960, and even made a prototype, but it was never produced. An Edsel enthusiast made his own 1960 Corsair basing it on the photographs he was able to find for it. The 1960 Ranger's DeLuxe interior option would have been the standard interior for the Corsair.

    I remember the first time I saw a 1960 Edsel, It was in the early 1970's, probably about 1973 or 1974. It was parked and regularly in the Framingham Massachusetts town center. It was a white 4 door and in nice shape. I always wondered what happened to that car. I always hoped it was saved. On another note, the clock in my 1977 Dodge Royal Monaco works.....which cracks me up, never have I seen that before in an old car......I had a 1961 Rambler a couple years back and the radio worked....all the tubes were fine and it worked like new, even the speakers worked...that was amazing

      I'm saddened to hear that. I enjoyed chatting with him and since I spoke to him so close to his passing, I suspect there was no suffering. Something we can all wish for. May he rest in peace.

      The 1960 Fords were great looking cars. Kinda ironic that they went from an ugly and offensive looking 59 model to this and then followed up in 1961 with an ugly and bland car.

      @@orphancargarage5746 I like all three as well, but that '60 is sexy. Do you know about the Edsels in Shelbyville, TN? Someone there has quite a few, or did not all that long ago.

    That brings back some memories. When I was in high school, my dad started collecting Edsels, at one time he had over 30 of them, including a 1960 convertible. I drove a 1959 sedan when I started college. Great car, never gave me any problems.

      Bet you wish you still had the convertible! One of just 76!

      About 1974 I heard of a guy in Massillon Ohio that had a Collection of Edsels. At the time, I was driving a '60 Galaxie (my first car) and spotted a young blonde lady driving a light yellow '60 Edsel four door sedan. I followed her and was able to talk to her. She told me it was her Dad's car and that he collected them. I think the number was fifteen at the time. I forget what she looked like, but still remember that Edsel!

    Pretty much from the time Ford came out with an automatic transmission, the cars needed to be in neutral to start. My parents had a '54 Ford and we had family friends that had a '61 Galaxie. They had to be in neutral to start. Perhaps Ford decided that the Edsel, being a more expensive, premium car, should start in park as well if this one used to start in park.

    Used '61 Ford gage cluster. Early Ford-o-matics did require starting in neutral gear. Wonder what's up with that?

    There is (or was?) a '60 coupe in Wisconisco, Pa. And in Krummsville(pa). All 60 models were Ranger series.

    Gee, you nearly made a good decision about this car. And Ford nearly made a good decision about the Edsel. Oh well.

    The tailites are quite interesting as they mimicked the 58-59 Edsel grille. To bad McNamera pulled the plug on the Edsel. Their were rumors that a Citation prototype was also in the works too.

      A two door sedan. A two door hardtop and even a convertible. I think they built like 76 of them only.

    That is a nice original for sure. I'm not sure why they continued the Edsel into the early part of the 1960 model year though, if they'd already decided to hang it up before the 1959s even went into production.

      The 59's came out in the fall of 58, the 60's came out in September of 59.

    When Ford through in the towel on Edsel, they basically just took the 60 Ford and put some Edsel badging on it. Those tail lights are hideous. The Ford was much better looking.

    • @markreisen7038
      @markreisen7038 7 місяців тому

      The taillights mimicked the 58/59 grill and gave the 60 model it's unique style. To bad McNamera pulled the plug on the Edsel as a Cirion proto type was also in the works.
