    It still blows my mind that in the Marvel comics series, Scrap Iron killed the Soft Master, Ripcord’s girlfriend, and Cobra Commander’s son ( who got better) and then Scrap Iron just disappeared without ever getting a reckoning or facing any consequences. I feel like there’s a story worth telling there if anybody ever reminds Larry Hama about it.

      Unfortunately the Hama IDW series is coming to an end soon.

      I suppose it’s hard to maintain story lines when the company needs you to fit in a bunch of new characters every year.

    • @ryandaly01
      @ryandaly01 2 роки тому

      @@christopherlacher3544 Sad, but I think it’s time to move on. He’s been running on fumes for a couple years and the book has been rehashing the same endless plots.

    • @ryandaly01
      @ryandaly01 2 роки тому +1

      @@mikewilson858 The thing is, that didn’t seem to be a problem in the 80s and 90s. It was like being forced to integrate new characters every issue gave the book a sense of forward momentum. Since he came back, free of Hasbro’s editorial mandates, he’s been recycling the same ninjas-and-robots saga for years and years.

      At the end of the DDP series Storm Shadow takes out Scrap Iron though it doesn’t show him kill him.

    I really like the diversity of the fan's comments at the end very much. 😄 😄 😄
    It basically provides me with a mood swing towards the positive end of the spectrum.

    This dude’s file card got my brain lit up. I love characters that are “normal person in a sea of outlandish freaks” and Scrap Iron very much seems like that in the context of Cobra. Also when I read his background combined with his quote, it lets me extrapolate that he may have left Destro for Cobra for ideological reasons. A guy obsessed with perfection to the point he’s willing to blow up civilians seems like he kind of guy who would be seduced by fascism.

    Scrap Iron was first Cobra action figure I owned back in the 1980's. Really enjoyed his look and accessories. Kinda of surprised he did not get more appearances in G.I. Joe media like the comic books. Glad that I got another one when I began collecting again, since he is really popular with the fan base.

    Scrap Iron is one of my all-time favorites. I still remember 1984 with being in the store and only allowed to get three Joes. I chose him and Mutt because they seemingly came with the most stuff, and Baroness because I noticed that she was hard to find (turned out to be right and she is a short-pack), and they only had one. It would turn out that it would end up being the only Baroness I ever saw at the retail level.

    Scrap-iron had two lines during Revenge of Cobra, he also had a cameo in Pyrimid of Darkness part 1, and apeared in full in the episodes Cobra Quake The Gods Below, Sins Of Our Fathers, and a cameo in G.I.Joe The Movie.

    Scrap-Iron was always one of my favorite figures. Re-used parts or not he just looked like a great Cobra/Destro agent. Shame they didn't give us even a repaint later on in the series. But if the did it likely would have been in Python Patrol and we might have regrated that. :P

    I remember buying Scrap Iron from a big wall of Joes hanging from the pegs. I passed over him after several trips to my local mall and finally picked him up after I bought most of my favourite releases that year. His missile launcher definitely helped me make my choice that day but he was just a filler figure in my play time. Perhaps a lack of appearances in media was the reason. Still have my childhood figure!

    I always thought Scrap Iron was a plant by Destro as an inside man to keep tabs on the workings of Cobra.

      That's how I used him since his file card explicitly mentions he was a product designer for Destro.

    Scrap-Iron is one of my favorites. He was my first “non army builder” Cobra action figure. I therefore used him in a field commander for Cobra troopers. I gave attributes of both Major Bludd & Firefly. I think he was overlooked by Larry Hama in the comics in favor of Firefly.

    I like this figure. I had him almost complete when I was a kid. I thought it weird his figure never got put in the I. G. He would have fit really well and still would keep him teamed with Metal Head. I'd like to work on getting him in my collection again.

    Always was one of my favorites, the color scheme and sculpt were just great. Never thought of it as a kid but repainting the PAC rats in Cobra colors would have been cool with Scrappy.

    Never had this figure as a kid- just recently picked it up- but I always thought he should have been used more in the comics and TV. He just looked like a Cobra! Hard to believe his murder of the Soft Master, Candy and a civilian to boot was never really addressed in the comics. Wasted potential in my opinion, but what do I know. Thanks for the great review!

    When I was collecting these figures I always wanted a Scrap Iron, but we never got him here in the UK. My only guess is it's because of the lack of a ball joint in his neck? I say that because we hardly got any of the early figures, probably for that same reason.

    Scrap Iron was my first GI Joe figure coz he looked "spacey" and fitted with my Star Wars stuff. I'm sure mine came with 3 red rockets and the card said he was from Peru. (I am a UK fan though so maybe it was different here or I could be mis-remembering!)

    Great video and review. But I think I solved the harness mystery. If you look close at Airborne, you will find Scrap Iron shares not only the lower legs but upper right leg and waist piece. I never noticed it until you did this video. And Yojoe doesn't mention those parts either. So Scrap Iron has almost as many reused parts as Duke. Anyhow thank you for making and sharing this video.

    It would be interesting to bring this topic up again, but to compare to the newly released Classified Scrap Iron. It seems a lot of the features that they left off on the O-ring, has now been put into play on the 6 inch line; such as the removable helmet.

    I always liked this figure as a kid, and I share the sentiments about it being a shame that there wasn’t an update for him in Iron Grenadiers colors. Whenever I played with him and Metal-Head, I used to pretend there was some sort of familial connection between the two, like either a disappointed father and his idiot son or the well-put-together older brother and the wild-child younger brother. To that end, I had it in my mind back then that, if Scrap-Iron has been received a new figure in the IG subset or reissued in IG colors, it would have been cool to have the new figure come in a 2-pack with Metal-Head.
    A second smaller thing I used to think of when playing with Scrap-Iron as a kid was that the thing in the holster on the right leg wasn’t another pistol but rather it was a pneumatic bolt gun used to fire the anchor bolts into the ground to fasten the rocket launcher. I got that idea after seeing the scene with the rocket launcher in the first Die Hard way to early in life (it was the 80’s, and we kids watched *everything* at a younger age than we probably should have).

    Scrap-Iron proabaly wasn't on the Iron Grenadeers because he liked working for Cobra way more. I mean Scrap-iron is way more phycotic then Destro, besides Destros not in cobra as of now in the hamaverse but Scrap-Iron is.

    One way they could have improved him was putting treads or wheels on the missile thing instead of a stand. It would look cool with treads under it, like a mini-MLRS, and it would solve any idea of mobility problems.
    Or they could give the figure Sgt. Slaughter biceps from carrying that thing around.
