By the time you're both ready to launch, the boat won't be a Cape George,..
It'll be a Cape Aladino
Maya’s dad is such a good natured man and funny too!
I love the birdsong at Myer's parents house! MC2 is like a cake awaiting her icing
Great video enjoyed it
Thanks for the explanation of Kristen's bowsprit issues. Comforting to know what a really strong boat you all will be sailing.
So glad you all have that storage container, so many epoxy jobs that just would not be as feasible in winter if you didn’t have it
Hi Aladino, to give the bobstay a better angle and to reduce the loads you can add a dolphin striker (Stampfstock). It's very common on sailing ships since the loads on the bowsprit are usually much higher.
Another beautifully produced video and great soundtrack. Loved the comedy bit with Dini and your dad.
The fact that Dini drives Maya crazy in the exact same way that her dad does bodes well for the strength and duration of their relationship. 😂
I'm not even interested in boats but I find myself watching your videos each week, for years already. There's something so soothing about them. Thanks and keep going.
Magic Carpet II Is coming along nicely !!! Loved the music, that was spot on (as usual) Maya, you Dad is sooo Cool! Love that Alidino and your Dad get along so well, being we have 2 experts on the job!!!! Loved the engine video! Family is awesome, enjoy them every minute !!!! Can't wait to see the "Mean" tasks for next week!!!! Loved the out takes as well !!! Take care you two!
Whoah, Aladino can really clean up nice (when visiting the parents...) Swiss cheesecake and sailboats - what could be better?
Nice to see you back at Dad's place. I first found your videos, when Alidino made the dingy. I was actually looking for videos on it, and found more.
Keep up the work.
Can't wait to see brian do a crossing with you guys! I don't commet much, but I anxiously wait for each new episode! Love you guys
Think he’s got it right mean tasks they can be. Cruising the progress hopefully keeping life in balance.
The light prisms look really nice. I love bronze fittings. The bow sprit is going to be so nice as wood looks much more authentic than aluminum would.
One of the mean tasks was acting like a dentist! First making a hole, and then fill it with new material.
Thank you both for this weeks peak! 🥰😇
Sooo funny! We have the same moments with Matt and my dad. Typical experts! Haha
Your deck prism frames are a nice rose bronze! I used to polish the rose bronze rub rail on my friend's Tayana V-42 because is looked so good! It isn't as shiny as brass but it is harder and doesn't tarnish as easily.
14:19 😂😂OMG the music is perfect, Laurel and Hardy go boating!
Your explanations are so clear and interesting, Aladino! And it's nice seeing Maya sounding so much more relaxed; I'm looking forward to havig her play for us again!
1 fathom is 1 sea mile divided by 1.000 = 1,852 meters. If you are strengthening out a rope between the length of your arms, stretched out to either side as far as you can, you will be very close to 1 fathom of length. Best regards from Bavaria/Germany.
Your arm idea is close but a fathom is exactly 6 feet - 1.8288m.
It has no original relationship to a nautical mile.
@@paulatwood8467 " Originally the span of a man's outstretched arms, the size of a fathom has varied slightly depending on whether it was defined as a thousandth of an (Admiralty) nautical mile or as a multiple of the imperial yard" - Wikipedia, so you both are right in your sight, but today the term is normally used as 2 yards = 6 ft
So glad you all got a mini break! It's nice to have family 🙂
👍👌👏 Good to still have Maya's reliable little green truck! 😁 ;-) I really like this vehicle and definitely not only because I absolutely love 💚 nearly anything that is green.
Now we know that M&A enterprises always deliver the best. 2 perfectionists fit together like boat parts and video w/music. I just want to add my admiration for all those good peoples comments, which are a bit like the little messages on Valentine candy hearts; always worth reading and sweet reminders of the feelings you'all inspire.
Nice to have your father talking in measuring terms that relate to the human body like fathoms, feet and inches all ‘typical’ common body measurements !
The way it should be…..
Cheers Warren
Growing up, my Dad was a "lash things down properly" sort of guy as well. Used to drive me crazy when I was a teenager, and always in a hurry. But now I find myself with piles of rope and using his same methods to tie everything down.
Just have to say what a great show. New Zealand 🇳🇿
The bowsprit looks great but it is missing something. Not sure if you were thinking of this but I feel that maybe it should have a "ship figure head" mounted underneath of it. It could be a very interesting project to build/create. Thoughts?!?🤔
Great clip of the meeting of the minds with Alidino and Brian. All I could do is grin
Great job to all,she is going to be beautiful.
Alidino and Maya you are both doing an extremely MEAN job of the boat and video. This is not meaning to be negative lol Bowsprit is going to look magically awesome on Magic Carpet2 . Catch you next video
678th upward thumb, 406th tag-along looky-loo view gonna happen.
12:23 - really looking forward to the final look of 'the pointy end of the boat'.
Funny Dad. Had to chuckle at that one.
Lovely video, especially the bowsprit hilarity … and the mean outtake … 😅🎉
I am 66 a little heavy and I know exactly how the fibreglass feels as I often want to lay down over time and often. Love your work.
Oh, so that was her problem the blow sprite. I thought so all along.
I love your back yard and workshop. It’s a slice off of heaven. The bird sounds are peaceful and refreshing. It would be an excellent place to sit and unwind from a stressful day at work. Happy Saturday!!
Are you going to have a Samson post?
Bahco scrapers!! My favorite tool for detailing epoxy layups!!
dini: "glad it's on the car..." I laughed pretty hard at that.. always good to see the dad in the videos
BTW: 2:22 - 'portrait' of the progress looks impressive and encouraging.
Thanks for my Friday entertainment. She is really looking like a boat now. Keep your nose into the wind.
Can’t believe Maya’s giving you MEAN TASKS!!
Love when I see your videos pop up.
Expressing appreciation to new knowledge acquired regarding fathoms!
I once had an annuall job making up 6 fathom mooring lines for a hire yard, gave up using a tape measure to get the length and did it by arm span. The boss thought he would pull me up for it but I was only an inch and a half out (35mm)
Great video' Dini and Maya dad make a right pear , Maya hold up a white board with what you what Dini to say like thay do on tv 😅
There was a big discussion on fb in GGR 2022 about the bowsprit problems of Kirsten, an you could see a video showing how it was made. The bowsprit is very important. Elliott Smith had big problems, tried to improvise a repair with chains etc, but had to retire from GGR in Australia because of the bowsprit. In my opinion a bowsprit must be long and stiff enough to fix it two times on deck and the bobstay angle must be as geat as possible. Longer bowsprits were supported by dolphin striker. And I would not press to much wood in metal cages... wood wants to breathe, especcially in humid conditions
That was funny...the whole Fathom thing.....Stop measuring things in fathoms Dad...my god...lol... A great video as usual Maya, well done. Glad you got to rest & recuperate with the olds... Your Dad seems really cool
"Me Talk Pretty One Day" ~ by David Sedaris 😉 I wonder if any of Aladino's other half dozen languages have tongue twisters comparable to the language thief that is English.
Aladino did not know that a fathom is six feet? I know that because I read Jules Verne in America, so it was not converted to metric ;-)
After seeing the outro - Aladino, you live with a slave-mistress, with a unique sense of humor - and we are all glad you do!
Great video, as usual. It is a pleasure to see you two growing into new and varied skill set.
Enjoyed the video and the music choices, especially the Crosby, Stills and Nash style tune towards the beginning.
Thank you!
I like mediumhardener as well , love your fiberglass work and foam coamings, Really nice all around
I had one boat that had prisms on it. I enjoyed the light that came in from them. The light was pleasing to the eye and dispersed properly.
Sail on ! 😊😊
Seeing the bowsprit on the car roof, I think the Mazda would look really cool with a bowsprit mounted on the hood. 👍👍 Nice work guys!
The very word FATHOM implies confusion. That interaction was deep. Six ft deep!
Waw, you making a beautiful boat..
Always good content
Slowly but surely , interesting talk about Kirsten and her bowsprit with the twin headsails very handy to get her knowledge on how her boat performed in the GGR cheers
You are marching right along! Good progress this week. The prisms will be beautiful.
Fantastic work!!!
It seems Maya couldn't fathom the rope discussion! The bowsprit deserves a cover all around, UV gets reflected off the water too. The varnish wll last years longer.
Wonderful scene in the backyard, birds chirping, when was this filmed, winter in Canada seem mild 😅 . Getting it done so it will all be worth the considerable effort.. think of the beautiful places you'll be seeing soon enough...
EXCELENTE TRABAJO ALADINO Y MAYA !!!! LES MANDO UN GRAN SALUDO DESDE LATITUD 34 ARGENTINA Y LO BUENO ESTA POR COMENZAR !!!!
Wonderful progress, always nice to see you visiting ‘the rents’ much love from England xx
I have followed a guy restoring catamaran for his family home. His work quality was and is extraordinary. I called him the pedantic man. I now pass that title to you. You now are now new title holder "the pedantic man"
Thanks for the video. And the fathom lesson.
Such lovely work
I understand Brian sentiments exactly "glad to help when I can, however, my workshop is Mine ... All MINE"! it's not a problem to help out!
NOW...be gone!
Looking good! Just curious, where are Alidino parents? Don't remember hearing about them.
You can mix slow and fast epoxy hardener to get the pot life and cure time that suits.
Thanks for the update guys!
Marvellous.🙂
awesome as always
It's sometimes hard to fathom the lengths Dini and Brian will go to measure things and make sure they're properly secured.
It's always a bit of a bugger when you are thinking of navigating shoal waters, always having to consider those sea levels.
Great episode as always.
Nice tip on the fibreglass overhang 👍
Are you looking as forward to putting some paint on that deck as me? I'm really looking forward to next week!
You two are awesome
Maya did you know what an expert is. X is an unknown quantity and "spurt" is a drip under pressure. Does that description fit ?
Been down and out for a bit... but trying to catch back up by binge watching your video's...
Now... Where Dini and Dad are concerned... Be real careful calling anyone an expert!!!!
I'm a Nationally Certified, 1st & 2nd Class Fire Fighter, and an Internationally Certified Hazardous Materials Specialist.. A million years ago,,, an Instructor at LSU Fire Fighting Acadamy told me one day... the definition of an "Expert"... An "Ex" is a has been... and a "spert... is a drip under pressure...
Thanks!
Thank you!
Nice video guys
great music
Great job Maya on the funny segment with the two experts. Also I loved the sequence (music and images) in the car with the bowsprit, really well done quick segment. Was this filmed back in the fall (colored leaves on the trees) or are your winters in the Pacific northwest that mild?
I use a product called Epiglass PT 30, I have no idea if it is still available, for cleaning my epoxy equipment. It contained a de-activator for the hardener, so it stopped the epoxy in its tracks. One slosh around, and then another rinse, and it was done.
With the coaming design, do you worry about seas coming in from the stern and into the cockpit when running downwind in heavy weather? After all, she’s a heavy boat so it may happen?
Not a concern for the predominant coastal cruising. And when offshore you can get swamped no matter how the coaming is constructed
@@SailingMagicCarpet fair enough. And when you look at modern boat design with their massively wide and open sterns, it’s clearly not a priority for them either
Hi Aladino, really enjoy your channel. What is the make of small scraper that you use? the one with the interchangeable blades - red and black. Thank you
Yes we need to know this ! My old one I cannot get blades for any more .
I can highly recommend the Bahco scrapers. Big and small
As it wouldn’t be enough with the regular imperial vs metric conversions ,fathoms came out of a hat… 😂 I’m just old enough to have used British Admiralty charts in some former colonial countries with depths marked in fathoms. What a headache to a young mariner. 😅
That's a long bow spritz
I guess they could be considered mean tasks😂
In the bowsprit i see a big diffrence in the graan. You are not afraid of different extensies/ shrink?
Expert- former drip under pressure
Like it
Aladino.. please tell me something: it's really working out so far? Money wise?
put a figure head on the bow , a bust carving of Mia ! lol .
do you have forged bronze figurine to place under the bowsprit?!!!
That would be cool
As he said, a fathom is six feet, just under 2 meters...
Just for claritys sake 6 fathoms converts to 96 fingers
❤😂❤
How many fathoms in a furlong?
💖💖💖🇦🇺
