Thanks for these videos! I actually have my first Taco coming in the next 10-14 days according to the dealership. 2021 Sport premium 2x4. I've been stressing about being 2x4, but you've helped me realize that 2x4 is plenty for what I'll use it for. Thanks!
The premium is way better than mine...you will be fine on all the places I've taken this thing. Glad these videos can help you out and seeing how capable the 2WD is.
momentum goes a long way! I used to off-road a couple mountains over from you on MT. San Jacinto in a fedex cargo van lol. It was the best route I ever did, also I once took a 24 foot penske rental off-road in yucca valley. I did get stuck here and there and had to spend 40 or so minutes collecting rocks and diggin out behind the tires and putting in the rocks to get out lol. It was fun af, I still have the pictures and videos.
Momentum does go a long way. Honestly I think starting off road in a not so capable rig will help you learn how to pick line and overall have a learning experience off roading. If someone start off roading with a decked out rig, they don't really find the fun in all the small details that comes along with off roading. Gotta learn to walk before you can run.
Do you have a rear locker? Nvm, i just past the portion of the video that said you have a LSD. You’re still are my Hero. I have a 06 Tacoma 2wd sport, that’s been on local fire roads, but nothing like those trails.
I have a standard cab 2x4 Tacoma that is on 35s. It would go right up all that with ease. It has 4:88 gears and a Detroit locker in the rear and that is key. You got to have the locker. I personally feel that a 2x4 with a locker can out so a 4x4 with open diffs on that type of terrain, not snow or mud. When you flex and a tire gets light that means you other tire is loaded with double the weight and traction on it. I had a bunch of coworkers that all had full sized Chevys and stuff and they all made fun of my lifted 2x4. Until one day when we all went out and my truck did better than all of them with ease.
@@chrislee4732 I honestly don't think so...it will get you out of you're stuck...but 4x4 will not get you stuck in the first place. However...it's all in the driver. Using your common sense goes a long way...if a trail looks like complicated, I would turn around if I am not with someone.
Dude next year, i want to go over landing and do some trail searching, any recommendations? Don’t know if it’s a good idea on a 4cyl Tacoma 2wd. And what kind of setups do I need for a beginner?
There's so many trail to do that don't require much but a sense of adventure. Holcomb Valley is really easy to explore with any truck. I recommend some all terrain tires and recovery gears if possible if you are a 2wd.
I need to find a group like this. Just bought a Jeep Gladiator a few weeks ago and have taken it up some of the easy trails in big bear. Big pine flats, etc. but don’t want to do the more challenging trails solo. Love the videos I watch them before I head out to get an idea
Thanks bro...the Gladiator is a beast man. You'll conquer most of these trails no problem. I recommend joining some FB off roading group man. Im in a few and they're always are doing trail and runs together. Great group of guys and very knowledgeable too.
You said you’re running an open rear end? Being locked will give you more of an advantage. Love the 2wd vids you got, I’m in the same boat! Surprises me where I can get being locked tho
Sometime its so hard since I want just to be in the experience as well instead of filming. Also I don't want my friends to feel uncomfortable being on film haha...but I get it, people like to see different camping and rig setup. Ill try to add more of others rigs and camping setup when possible.
Bro! My crew was there airing back up after doing Gold Mountain in the staging area as you guys airing down for your run. At 3:56, I'm in the White Gladiator.
Enjoyed it thanks Michael! Helping me decide where to take my lifted 2wd😎 Any advice of where to make my fist trip? Nothing too difficult for the first time?
Yea man...all momentum for me. Was considering an air locker but I think it's time for 4x4 soon..hopefully the market is not be too crazy in a few months
Just making it more of a challenge for the 4x4 guys...beside the 3N16 if you ever been on it, it's all rutted due to all the 4x4 guys wheeling in the winter when it was all muddy
@@Michael_Tran do it bro. Been following you for a while and it’s time. We just did Holcomb creek trail 3N93 which is the toughest in big bear. 35s on a 4X4 taco and you got it!

@@Michael_Tran i see, you may have to buy in another state, I found my 2020 TRD off road 4x4 here in Florida for 33k used of course, but I had to look hard, they even gave me great money for my 2019 TRD off road 2x4

I was clapping when you gased it and made it up that hill 👏👏👏
Haha...thanks man, need that support for next time
one fun thing about getting stuck is that someone can finally put their brand new recovery straps or wench to use lol
Yup, I agree, too many people have a winch but never get to use it.
I have an sr5 and it is very capable in lsd and even better with trac off. Great to show that you dont need a 4x4 to have fun and hit trails
Yup, totally agree. They build these trucks to tackle a lot of obstacles even with 2wd...I love taking out to explore trails in my area.
NGL, when you charged that section with your lsd on, I got a little emotional! lol good stuff brother
Haha...me too. my heart is always pounding on these sections especially having people looking at you.

Love the content. Quick question: did you end up getting a 4wd model? I swear I watched you use 4wheel in big bear snow recently.
Thanks man...yea the past year I bought a 4x4 truck.
good stuff man. same here got a sr taco no lsd but loving the trails were hitting so far.

I added the winch at my 2wd truck😂 and I believe it could help me get up some hill without help
