Rick's days as a teen idol were way behind him at this point, circa 1970, and he was coming into his own as an artist and writer. I've always loved this song. Tom Brumley's work on steel guitar and Randy Meisner & Alan Kemp's harmonies help make ETBF one of the most beautiful songs Rick ever wrote and recorded..My all time music idol.
Ricky was a pioneer of Rock n Roll, Rockabilly, Country-Rock, and the Singer Songwriter movement. He worked with Randy Meisner, James Burton, Tom Brumley, & Alan Kemp - among others.
On this day in 1970 {April 29th} Ricky Nelson performed "Easy To Be Free" on the ABC-TV musical variety program 'The Johnny Cash Show'... Almost two months earlier on March 1st "Easy To Be Free" had entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #81; it spent six weeks on the Top 100 and on weeks five and six it was at #48, that was it's peak position on the chart... Between 1957 and 1973 he had fifty-three Top 100 records; nineteen made the Top 10 with two* reaching #1, "Poor Little Fool" for 2 weeks in 1958 and "Travelin' Man" for 2 weeks in 1961... He just missed having two more #1 records when two of his records peaked at #2; "A Teenager's Romance" for 1 week in 1957 and "Stood Up" for 3 weeks in 1958... Sadly, Eric Hilliard Nelson passed away at the young age of 45 on December 31st, 1985... May he R.I.P.
Really...he & David Cassidy were the prettiest / most gorgeous looking guys with talent I’ve ever seen! Rick’s complexion is flawless, too! Incredible! Almost otherworldly!
Wowww...I wonder if this appearance was before or after the infamous Madison Square Garden incident which inspired Rick to write “Garden Party”...seeing that this concert and the MSG show were both held in 1971...can’t believe any crowd would boo this band off a stage....smh
Oh. My. God. This. Man. Was. Absolutely. Gorgeous. And. Had. The. Voice. To. Match.
Face & voice of an angel! And probably the sweetest guy, too!
Rest In Peace beautiful Randy
Playing in heaven with Rick

is that Meisner on bass?
Yeah, he’s there, but I can’t tell if he’s playing bass or not.
On second play, it looks like he’s picking bass.

True, never should have been booed. Fantastic singer
Hi, I have never come across any footage from that concert, I don't believe any exists, however I'm not positive.
Perfect Footage, but what is with the sound?
Thanks, I thought it was just me.
Randy
Hi ,,Do you know if any footage exists of that now infamous Madison Square Garden Concert in 72? I would love to see that.
I don’t think that was filmed.
