Renal cell carcinoma is the most common of the tumours of the kidney in adults, accounting for 70% of all renal tumours, and 85% of renal cancers. Benign tumours of the kidney are rare. Renal cell carcinomas arise from the proximal tubule cells. Its old name of hypernephroma reflects that it was believed to arise from the adrenal gland.
I was diagnosed a few yrs ago with Carcinoid Syndrome, primary in my lung, now in my liver and spine causing many spinal fractures! Then just 2 months ago after I did an Octreoscan I was diagnosed with Small Cell Carcinoma on my right kidney. I've since been put on Sutent 37.5 mg caps for 14 days with a 7 day break. Are these 2 cancers similar? For my spinal fractures I take a once a month injection of Xgeva and Sandastation LAR 30 for the carcinoid. My question is,how aggressive is small cell carcinoma? Not looking for a diagnoses only a bit of insight into my disease,Goggling it only brings fear as they only show the very worst of things! Thanks in advance!
