When you have all the money you could need then you can dress in a way that you present yourself to the world the way that you want to be seen. When you live in poverty you wear whatever it is you can afford even if what you are wearing is simply saying you are poor and can't afford to buy better clothes.
@@sampuatisamuel9785 You can't buy what you can't afford. Pretending that it's the fault of people "on a tight budget" is ignoring the actual reality of poverty and blaming the poor.
That certainly used to be true. However with Uniqlo these days making classics for next to nothing, being a well dress manned is just a matter of knowledge and style.
@Sanctus Paulus 1962 no, it’s meant to be more modern, which is why the music is also more modern and the structure takes on a more modern narrative. take marie antoinette from 2006 for example: a pair of chuck taylors shows up during the “i want candy” montage. not a mistake; it was done on purpose. don’t be so dense.
We loved celebrating the style in The Great Gatsby.
loved that era. rather classy

Even those on a tight budget can look smart if coordinate your colours and good grooming (leave track pants for home wear)

You'd be surprised how affordable some casual nice clothing is. I can get a nice and well fitted V neck shirt for $6
Well there are thrift stores and sales etc so it makes clothing and accessories more affordable

Wouldn't it be nice if people went around dressed like that again? Much better that seeing people in sweat pants.
Davids Ghost no...I like wear casual.....
I’m not rich, wealthy... or white...
@@BeautyLilya rich and wealthy are synonyms and you don't have to be white to dress this fabulously.
raebele getting money was harder for minority’s.
@@BeautyLilya in the movie they had the black people in the background
Too pretentious
Anyone else catch the gemma ward cameo?
They definitely had classier standards back then.
The costume design is so unhistorical. Complete mix from all over the 1920s, and huge modern influence. Figure hugging? Cleavage? Bizarre.
Yes true no cleavage and definitely not figure hugging. .. also the shoes are kid of messy . And the lower class didn't dress like that
the 30s were definitely a much bigger inspiration
That’s the point. It’s meant to be more modern
I thought that the costumes were right bon point

I loved the movie, but the music was just not right
94nomusicnolife some of it was, I mean "Love is Blindness", was perfect, and the Sonata with "Young and Beatiful" was absolutely gorgeous
Everything was fine and dandy
Jay Z is a good rapper
