- On 21 December 1993 President FW de Klerk held a press conference in which he challenged ANC President Nelson Mandela to a pre-election debate on television and radio. "The Great Debate" as media framed it was set for 14 April 1994 and it was seen as a showdown between South Africa's two political heavy weights.

Debates like this will NEVER EVER exist like this in South Africa again. In fact the current situation in SA is far worse than what it was back then. That is a FACT, due to ignorance and corruption that is running the country.
The Only Democratic presidential candidates that Debated in order to give the electorate a chance for an informed decision. Zuma would definitely loose an election if it had to go this route.

When the South African National Party betrayed Rhodesia and SWA, the white South African voters did not protest, they kept on voting for the same National Party so that Vorster, Botha and De Klerk could do to South Africa what they had already done to Rhodesia and South Africa.
In the 1992 referendum white South Africans voted to become exactly the same as every other post-colonial African country. Pietersburg in Transvaal is the only part of South Africa which voted NO. South Africans asked for the mess they are in today so they cannot complain by saying they had no choice.
