Fair Dealing
Source: www.gov.uk/gui...
Certain exceptions only apply if the use of the work is a ‘fair dealing’. For example, the exceptions relating to research and private study, criticism or review, or news reporting.
‘Fair dealing’ is a legal term used to establish whether a use of copyright material is lawful or whether it infringes copyright. There is no statutory definition of fair dealing - it will always be a matter of fact, degree and impression in each case. The question to be asked is: how would a fair-minded and honest person have dealt with the work?
Factors that have been identified by the courts as relevant in determining whether a particular dealing with a work is fair include:
* does using the work affect the market for the original work? If a use of a work acts as a substitute for it, causing the owner to lose revenue, then it is not likely to be fair
* is the amount of the work taken reasonable and appropriate? Was it necessary to use the amount that was taken? Usually only part of a work may be used
The relative importance of any one factor will vary according to the case in hand and the type of dealing in question.
Source: www.bl.uk/busi...
The concept of fair usage exists within UK copyright law; commonly referred to as fair dealing, or free use and fair practice. It’s a framework designed to allow the lawful use or reproduction of work without having to seek permission from the copyright owner(s) or creator(s) or infringing their interest.
Fair dealing law is not only applicable to text-based works; it applies to musical, dramatic, artistic, literary and typographical works too. However, it does not cover the copyright of printed music.
As an exception to British copyright law, fair dealing is governed by Sections 29 and 30 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, which outlines three instance where fair dealing is a legitimate defence:
* If the use is for the purposes of research or private study;
* If it is used for the purposes of criticism, review or quotation;
* Where it is utilised for the purposes of reporting current events (this does not apply to photographs)
A statutory definition for fair dealing does not exist; it will always be a matter of fact, degree and interpretation in every fair dealing case. Nor is there a percentage or quantitative measure to determine fair dealing. The Intellectual Property Office lists the key factors used to determine the validity of whether a particular dealing with a work is fair as follows:
* Has the use of the work impacted negatively on the market for the original work? If the creator or owner has lost potential revenue through the re-use of their work, it is not likely to be fair.
* Was it reasonable and necessary to use the amount of work that was taken?
The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 also outlines the potential fair dealing defences that permit the use of copyright works without permission from the author(s) or creator(s) under UK copyright law.

Not gonna lie, I’m shocked at how many rock songs are among the biggest streaming era songs from the 2000’s. Especially with quite a few that never even made the top 40. I like how streaming numbers could serve as a correction for some of the songs Billboard whiffed upon the first time around.
I thought the same actually, pleasantly surprised by that. Yeah i think it hasnt helped with rock music's reputation from the 2000s as it was far better than a lot of people like to think! Not that charts are everything of course. Thanks for watching

MUSIC IS NOT DEAD YALL
As a mostly metal guy I found it funny that my other favourites were represented here. Eminem, Linkin Park, RHCP, Rihanna and Lady Gaga had plenty of songs here. I was surprised to see Blink 182 which I loved in the 90's as their songs during the 2000 era weren't that great. Biggest surprise was that Britney didn't have that many songs here.
@@Media_Ranker Coldplay is too mainstream now so their old songs are streamed a ton

It’s amazing how much more diversity there was in what was popular in the 2000s. There was a lot of rock songs on this list. Now it’s basically all pop music and rap.
Great songs from The Strokes, The Kooks, Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, MGMT, The Killers, Snow Patrol, Keane and Coldplay.

Where’s Bring Me To Life by Evanescence? I’m sure it’s over a billion streams and was released in 2003
I think 3 Days Grace are Canadian not American, and you didn't put up Lil Waynes guest verse on Jay Sean's "Down".

Lots of nostalgia with this one! Thanks for watching
Crazy how there's more songs with +1000M plays in the 2000s than from the whole 20th century
Yeah, i would guess you'll see that even more when i do the 2010-present day version too! The next one i do will be the 1990s though. Cheers
It was a wonderful decade... Full of excitements, emotions and hopes
Where is Bring Me To Life by Evanescence???
Damn it youre right, i remember seeing it and for whatever reason not writing it down now too! Thats my bad
Linkin Park is amazing
Just watched the whole video and i agree those were good songs and still are💖💖
i still dont understand how in the world some of these can be such a success…

I thought I knew the music of the 00s, but it turns out that I don't! There was so much rock music, it's crazy. It was very interesting to discover so many good songs❤🔥
Yeah one thing ive noticed doing this is that streaming numbers can sometimes be its own specific version of popularity if that makes sense, separate from charts and radio play etc, at least some of the time anyway. Cheers

There is just something depressing about 2000s music...I like following my favorite artists but the collective of all the artists give the decade such a different vibe.
I think it is more about the culture of the time period it is attached.
THERE IS NOT A DAMN SOUL ON THIS EARTH.. THAT CAN TELL ME THERE IS A BETTER DECADE OF MUSIC THAN 2000-2009 . END OF DISCUSSION 80s, great, 90s, ok anything else get it outta here.. 00s for life

Sometimes I only bring in a single new song in a month or two!
If I listen to too much 2000s music at one time the first thing I think is: The 90s was the last great decade.

So Kanye West is on here….. R. Kelly is on here but Chris brown isn’t?!?!? GTFOH!!! I’m sick of these lists excluding him for something that happened when he was a kid in which Rihanna started it!!! But I guess it’s ok to sexualize women, demonize Jews, and do whatever R.Kelly did but god forbid you get in a fight with your ex gf as a kid……
I dont think you realise what the video is, its spotify streaming numbers, he doesnt have one from the 2000s with enough streams to make the top 200. I think 'Forever' is his closest with 500m or so, which has featured in at least one other video of mine. I dont choose to include or not include artists based on anything like that. Cheers
can we get other decades for this too please:)
Well ive done the top 200 for the previous century, i will be doing 2010-today but i could do a top 100 for each decade of the previous century or something. Its harder to find data as they will have a lot less streams, relatively speaking of course. Cheers
