Something special about going to local teams for local fans in the lower leagues. The fans who go week in, week out, rain or shine, paying good money they worked for, who did not go for the big teams to support, and through thick and thin, support the team no matter what. Beautiful to see.

100%. I felt that at Bolton with Jimmy, Doncaster with Chall/Danny, and Bohs with the fans I spoke to there.

I have a friend, he goes Chelsea home and away, missed just two games in 20 years for the birth of his kids. Goes to the pre-season games, games in the back and beyond in Europe in the week, every single game..... and he told me once (this is Mourinho days and Abramovich) when they won the league, and beating teams 4-0 that he preferred the days of going away to Stoke and winning 1-0 with a 90th minute winner, much more than 'expecting' to win every week and just 'how many will we score'. He said something special about all the fans together, winning in the last minute.. something special about 'we got away with this!' and its true... more fun when you do not support a team funded by money.

Agreed! I'm hoping my club in America (St. Louis CITY) never goes the way of Inter Miami and just starts throwing money around like candy at a parade.

@@SoccerZombieSTL I know the team well, Santa Klauss up top. And it was long documented in UK about the owners of SL being basically one family and all women!

Yup! Pretty unique situation with the ownership. Hopefully you can make it to STL someday because it's a great atmosphere at Energizer Park. Kind of a combo of German/latin American.

Just to put into context, Bolton, Doncaster, Reading all paid for their new stadiums, as did Arsenal over £600m, Tottenham £850m just like Everton will for next season. * The only two clubs given their stadiums are Man City and West Ham, as they both rent the stadium from the local council. Man City stadium was built for the Commonwealth Games in 2002 and they pay just £3m per year to rent the stadium from the Council. They do not own the ground like every other team in the Premier League. Some say City got a big advantage as a lot of clubs still paying the interest and bills off for getting new stadiums. Certainly for clubs in Championship, League 1 etc.

Interesting! I knew about West Ham's soulless cavern of a stadium but didn't know that about the Etihad.
