@@MadisonTen Some of the woodlands did remind me of something out of a fantasy movie! Perfect weather conditions. The beaches and train bits were cool as well 🏖🚅
That was lovely and it was wonderful to escape the noise for 90 minutes and take it all in - thank you. With no over excited or distracting commentary of what we can already see, pieces to camera, references to average speed, gradients and the usual cycle vloggers content your style seems quite unique on YT and all the better for it. You also have a great eye for the small/quirky/interesting details as well as painting the broader picture. What do you use for planning your routes and for navigation on your rides?
Aw thanks so much. Always makes me happy when someone 'gets it'. I want to show our culture as it is now as part of the films. So I don't really use anything specific for planning. I usually start with an idea of a place I'd like to visit or something specific to see or use, then I check to see if there are supporting cycle trails in the area and what roads I'd have to use to join them up and how safe they might be, how hard etc.. I generally use google maps with "Cycling" switched on in the "Map Details" setting, this will overlay cycle trails and dashed lines for non-traffic free cycle route - during planning. The Sustrans website is also useful for cycle trails, though they don't always include local authority/community trails. While cycling I just rely mainly on having studied where I'll be going and road signs/cycle signs. If I'm not sure I'll stop, take my phone out and check google maps to see which way next, then carry on. So no specific cycle navigation tech.
@MadisonTen Thanks for describing how you work out a route. It sounds quite organic, too. I've been using Sustrans cycle maps for my local area and adjoining counties. As well as the NCN, I like the coloured on-road and off road "other routes" as a good starting point for lower traffic connections. Easy to fold and carry too
Wow Madison, your expeditions really are something. Must take a lot of planning. Makes my little rides look hopeless! As always I loved the piano pieces 😊- You could make a video just playing your music! Love seeing steam trains always. Looking forward to the next instalment - enjoy the editing! Jeff.
Your rides are absolutely fine. You get to ride what you want to ride and that's what's important. A bit more planning these days but just the important stuff really, the rest I find out as I go along :) Aw thanks. Very kind.
@@MadisonTen you're quite right - at present I am choosing where to go/film each week, but once I'm finally (soon) on the canal, my ride-options will be more limited according to where I am at the time. Can I make a trip along the towpath to the nearest shop interesting enough?! We'll see...! Seriously, your piano playing is very good - wish I was as talented 👍
Can't wait for Gladys to be on the water. Really looking forward to your water based adventures and your explorations on the Brompton :) You'll find interesting things I'm sure.
@@MadisonTen Thanks Madison! 😍 I'm expecting an update this week and will let you all know if she's still on schedule for week commencing 19th 🤞 I'm hoping to take the bike out tomorrow to do this weeks video... but still not decided where to go yet! 🤔
Guards Vans, we are being encouraged to use public transport and cycle and walk more, bring back Guards Vans, no more cramped areas to store bikes, worked in the past, can work now…..cracking film btw 👍
I'm really surprised even with the new commuter/metro trains they're not designing in large spaces given the need to get more people commuting. I'm guess it's down to cost and gains. Thanks, David! ☺️
♥steam trains, and that location, in the summer ...idyllic. Evocative of holidays of yesteryear. Particularly love the green (Southern) trains, and particularly the Bullied West Country class you rode. Wonderful cinematography and love the vignette's. Did you see any snakes on the heath ? I used to see them walking the Hampshire & Surrey heaths and have been bitten by an Adder (it's no biggie for healthy people) Appreciate the length of time you keep the captions up - sometimes it's difficult to tear my eyes away from so much beauty, to read them. It's great that Travelodge allow bikes in rooms - they seem to be consistently one of the cheapest too. (I hate rip off hotels ...rip off anything, for that matter)
Aw, thanks. Yes, the Southern train was nice and quiet and pretty smooth too. Plenty of space. The steam train was something else. Potentially the first steam train I've ridden on. And so well looked after. I didn't see any snakes though I didn't stop much so did get to look but I can imagine in that warm weather there may have been some hiding under rocks or in the grass. I've increased the captions length quite a bit over a number of videos after some feedback and increased the font size. Trying to get the right balance. Hopefully it's ok now. Yes, Travelodge are ok. They have a few branches that aren't particularly well kept but they've usually been ok for me. I might contact some other chains and see what they think about cycles.
Nice. 👍 The offroad bit with all the gates is part of the Dorset dirt dash route, I was surprised how deep the sand was in places when I rode it 2 years ago. I encountered a "rave" in full swing out in the middle of nowhere, lots of "wasted" youths in bucket hats wondering about and a Police helicopter! It did cross my mind that I should sell them my green electrolyte tabs for 20 quid a pop and scarper before they twigged they weren't what they thought.............🤣
Yes, really have to choose the line carefully to avoid that deeper sand. I didn't know about it until I got there. haha, they might have worked it out when you raised your hand and said "hey, High-five!" I bet that was a mad experience.
@@MadisonTen Very quick! ;-) SIS (slurp in solitude) are the green variety of choose, Tropical H5 I stock up on when they are on offer ........ TBH: I thought the hovering helicopter was fire spotting at first, as I had rode through a recently burned bit up in Wareham forest and it was a scorching hot day. It wasn't until I heard the music and saw the "yoofs" wandering about that I twigged what was going on. They were no trouble and I was soon past them.
Yes, I look for the offers too. The last time I bought was from Holland and Barrett or all places. Two tubes of the Berry flavour. I don't buy more than that as I don't get through them too quickly. Yeah, I expect they were just having a camp fire party. All good.
Perfect summer cycling video! Must have taken forever to plan, film and edit, but I 'm sure we're all grateful you made the effort. Many thanks. The postcard hasn't arrived yet but I 'll keep an eye out! :)
3 days of filming, 35-40 hours ish to edit for the longer films 🎥🥵 Haha, I was thinking may be I should run a competition to send a postcard out 😂 Thanks, Mike.
Well your standards keep going up and up !!. My husband was smiling when you stuffed cloths into your bag, he is ex navy and kept everything neat and tidy!!!. The one part we both enjoyed was the postcard!!!! all this technology and the simple postcard gets written and posted. Pure Bliss !XXX
Haha, well my thinking was (excuse) that I had to expel all the air from the bag so they'd get creased anyway. I did fold my t-shirts though separately ☺️ I love sending a postcard from a nice place. Not every place does them these day. Thanks, both! x
@@MadisonTen Do you buy a card to keep for yourself? I have a load of them sent by my husband when he was cruising around the world. That was back in the seventies. xx
Do you know I don't buy them for myself. My fridge is a bit full but may be I should. Some places I buy a little gift for myself but the postcards are for Mum and Dad when Im away somewhere special. Aw that's so nice. I hope you still have some!
Perfect timing this afternoon (Aussie time) as I just got back from a 25km coastal ride too. Late lunch, kick back and watch your latest video. Dorset, Steam Trains and glorious weather. Doesn’t get much better than that! Great stuff🙂
@@MadisonTen Yesterday (Monday) it was overcast and quite cool (our Winter) but calm. This morning it is sunny and no wind again. Temp might get up to 20C. I ride a Giant Fastroad Hybrid road bike or a Giant Trance X MTB. Got a Harley Davidson Road King too, but that’s a ride story of its own🙂 Anyway, time to move and hit the coastal cycleways and roads again. Cheers Mick
That's a lovely looking road bike, such a nice frame. Harley Davison though, that is another level of freedom. That really must be amazing to tour around with. Enjoy your ride, Mick!
@@MadisonTen Thank you. The best thing with the Giant is that it is full carbon and only weighs 9kg. That said I need to change to bigger gears to get up local hills. Just watched your video on the Waterfall Way. Brought back memories as my Uncle had a dairy farm in the Glynneath area and spent a lot of time there during school holidays.
@@MichaelRees-d3g That's nice, that lighter weight would help with luggage weight! Yes, some fab waterfalls in Glyn Neath. Must have been amazing having those visits. So much to explore.

Yet again, thank you Madison for taking me along on day 1 of your travels . Railways, waterways, country lanes and villages look so beautiful in the sunshine.
