i am so glad i found you. i’m from arkansas and have always loved to watch hockey but never had the opportunity to play. seeing this keeps pushing me to try it and that it’s never too late. keep pursuing man!
I really like the longer form content. As a guy who has always wanted to play and never got the opportunity, it's awesome seeing someone pick up the sport as an adult knowing there might be hope for me 😅 keep up the good work dude!
Dude, go out and get started ASAP! If your goal is to have fun, meet some cool people and enjoy a physical activity, you gotta get started! You won’t regret it!
As a Canadian I’m so jealous of this rink. I’ve never inlined on anything but pavement. Also just a tip from a guy that’s played since I was 4, constantly think about keeping your feet moving when you have the puck. Do it so much that it’s second nature and it’s all you can think about in the back of your head if you have the puck. Never glide, ever. Just keep your feet moving and your hands will catch up later on. You can always fine tune things later but getting your speed and feet doing things just naturally will help a lot. Keep it up, the sport never gets old, I still find ways to improve 35 years later. Also if you see a guy that’s got an attribute you admire, ask for tips. You’d be amazed at little tricks you can learn from anyone, and to be honest almost everyone wants everyone else to be better.
Quick tip: when trailing someone on a breakaway, quickly realize what shot they are and keep your stick in a ready position to stick lift because they want to get the best shot they can for a good scoring chance
I am a huge fan of the videos and the channel, I can’t watch this and not try and provide some coaching. 0:08 Don’t forget that you can pass and get a pass right back to set yourself up better! Edit #1 0:26 When you are open back door, don’t forget to open up to your forehand, makes one timers a lot easier Edit #2 0:44 Easiest rule to remember is “stick on puck”, just keep your stick where the puck is to make it more difficult, even if you don’t stop the rush Edit #3 1:10 Great awareness to want to make the pass but recognize that the defense was waiting for it Edit #4 1:53 It’s ok to take the puck from a teammate to keep possession, just keep in mind they will most likely be open after you take it Edit #5 1:58 Remember to keep two hands on the stick and then try lifting the stick of the other player can possibly break up the play Edit #6 2:364:03 Great pass ***chefs kiss*** Edit #7 2:44 Great defensive play, the small stick tap broke up the play so he doesn’t get a clean shot on net Edit #8 3:30 I love the quick head twitch that shows you are keeping your head up and looking around
Protect the puck on the forehand is all about being strong on the edges, speed and hard cut-offs. not trying to put you down but putting the puck behind you is only gonna put it into a worse spot(unless you are trying to do a nice in between the legs move) but anyway on the forehand once you get right beside the guy cut hard towards the net dont let him push you towards the boards, get low and lean into him once you are beside him and try and position your body so that he can’t poke check the puck away from you, and from there on cut hard towards the net while being strong on the forehand try and lean to cut him off and give more space to you self. Hope this helps.
love these vids dude. Your editing is great and I love you showing and explaining the failed attempts also. definitely the best GoPro hockey content I've seen
3:06 when the puck is on ur right side like that one thing you can do is take your left left and put it out in front of you while still gliding. It cuts off the angle for the defenseman's stick and gets you in a good position to either cut in, go behind the net, or cut to the boards and pass.
When you are protecting the puck on your forehand, try to get a lot lower and stick your knee that is closest to the player out so that you can cut his body and stick off from your stick. Don't forget to keep your feet moving and you can always use a cutback if you feel as though the defenseman has a step on you. You're playing pretty well, just be aware that when you are playing defence, make sure to watch the guy's chest and don't worry about the puck as much.
Looks like you all had fun. Try going stick hand on the minder. Sometimes a stick side save can be tricky for the minder. You were making some good decisions on your passing keep up the good work.
@@Kazxi. I know man haha, I used to post fitness reels / shorts everyday like you do and it was a stress for sure😆 btw, really enjoyed that you didnt cut so much, we got to see so much more gameplay and your playstyle!
These videos remind me of 2019 Nasher with his outside roller league you should start making videos like that with you mic’d up in a real game it would be pretty cool
dude, for 150 days in your playing so well. watching this video i noticed you made a comment of how you can protect the puck coming down the right side being a right handed shot (like me) something that you can try and it will come as you get more comfortable is even if your in space and have room you want to protect the puck while keeping the goaltender guesiing of when your going to shoot so instrad of cradeling it on your forehand which is an indication that your ready to move the puck at any second continue to go side to side with the puck from your forehand and backhand. if a defender is inside of you you can keep the puck to the outside and still disguise what your going to do. a way i practiced this for years was when at the rink by myself use cones and make a lane for yourself while keeping the puck at least a foot away from them at all times. over time you will see how you can continue to accelerate as your coming down towards the goalie. when you are coasting a good defender or good back checker will have an easier time disrupting your handle. try it!!!
I love watching your videos, when your playing defense you want to play the body don’t even look at the puck, just look at the body and no mater what they do just put your hand on there logo on their shirt!
Dude! How are you that good for only playing 150 days?! When I started playing hockey I sucked so much! Keep up the great work! I like playing left wing too. #Hockeyisthebest!
Only things that I’d say is look for opportunities to cross someone up, because that could give you more options, utilize the toe drag deke more, work on one-T consistency, and learn when to get saucy 😈.
"Immediately I'm thinking pass to this guy who's much better and faster than me." As true as that may be, I'm immediately thinking that's some grade A humility. Good on you, best of luck and nice video!
I play defence too I play ice hockey so idk if it is different but when you are defending don’t step in too early and look at there hips if you look at there feet it won’t go well
1:57, go for a stick lift. it would've def thrown him off and messed up his shot. for 150 days, the skating and stick handling is not bad at all, super enjoyable, keep at it
It seems like so many NHL teams are investing in community rinks like this, but we have nothing like this in St. Louis. Please tell me how Columbus has rinks like this and we don't lol. I'm so jealous.
If they aren’t wearing shin pads and you hit them, that is on them. Same with a helmet/elbow pads. Can risk getting hurt playing a fun but less important game. You have one body. Take care of it.
Try keeping the bottom hand a little looser so you can slide your bottom hand up and down the stick which makes it a lot easier to adjust to bad passes and make stickhandling smoother. obviously tighten the grip up when your shooting and the moment you receive passes. Keep it up love the videos
If you don’t like defiance try to learn how to skate back words and if you ok are going back on them and are behind try getting yourself in between them and the goal
You were going offside everytime(What we like to call cherry pickin). You cant cross the offensive blue line when your team has puck poccession until the puck crosses first. If the puck leaves the offensive zone your entire team has to clear the zone before you can bring the puck back in.

Heck yeah dude, get out there! I jumped into a full-on tournament for my first game when I was 28 - was terrifying but the best choice I ever made!
