  • MotoMan goes on a deep technical dive of the first all new Cadillac in almost 3 years: The 2019 Cadillac XT4 Compact Crossover. Yes, this is an all new Cadillac but there are soooo many changes that are not just intended for the Cadillac XT4. MotoMan goes through all of them and separates out what is contained to the Cadillac XT4 and what will show up on future Cadillac models . . .

      canonlybeme4life honestly, every Cadillac I thought I would like there was always something that completely turned me off: mediocre interiors, cue, gauges from a forklift (ats). Then all of a sudden this thing comes out and I just put what I thought was a surefire 2019 RDX sale on hold

    Look at that face of the XT4 at 2:17 as he briefs us on this beauty!! It’s eyeing us right there lol Cadillac knocked this design out of the park man! I’m so proud of them, I’ve been rooting for GM ever since the bankruptcy in ‘09. I hear it drives even better than it looks. Can’t wait to test drive this new XT4, the XT5, and the Range Rover Velar and Aviator crusher the XT7. I really hope they build the 7, I just know the performance of that vehicle will blow wigs back!! Let’s go GM!!🔥🔥🔥

    This XT4 looks amazing...!!! I drive a CTS Sportwagon. This vehicle reminds me of my wagon, from the taillights, to the available 3.6L V6 engine. I just wish it was RWD. But then again GM only made about 7K wagons from 2010-14 so I think I will keep my wagon. But overall the XT4 looks phenomenal...!!! Excellent job Cadillac...!!! Thanks Moto-man for another great video...!!!

    I was pleasantly surprised to hear your thoughts on the interior quality, I was worried that GM was being GM & cut too many corners like they always do. I'm happy that Cadillac is finally moving away from the vertical lines & piano black waterfall designs ... They were horrible. I like the design of the interior, but I wish they used more metal inside. Metal (real) adds a touch of class & sophistication, & elegantly contrasts the sea of blacks. Take a look at the XC40 & the new Q3 for example.
    I like the exterior design a lot, but they must offer a sporty or an alternate bodywork similar to S-Line & M Sport to further separate the models. Perhaps 21" or even 22" wheels as well. The XC40 looks very sleek & expensive with the 21"s.
    I'm also happy they embracing the V-shaped grille inserts! About good darn time. Hope the Vs move away from the mesh as well. Maybe get the Z grille from the EL Miraj?
    I'm with you on the Carbon Fiber trim. Aluminum or a combination of wood & aluminum would've been much better.
    A black XT4 Sport with a proper red interior & an aluminum trim would look the shizzle ;)
    There are couple of things I don't like though, the plastic molding on the outside is too much & the bezels on the navigation screen are way too thick.
    Quick Q, M: Does the XT4 have ambient lighting?
    Looking forward to the first drive review, as always, excellent work, M.

    Great review as always. To answer your earlier question carbon fiber, aluminum the wood that’s the order for me. Unless it’s the new Volvo wood.
    XT4 looks awesome inside and out. So glad GM finally got the interior right

    Wife currently drives an ATS, is looking to move into a crossover. The only thing that would compete with this would be a cx-5 turbo (if it gets the turbo from the cx-9). This fixes a lot of my issues with her current caddy interior, I like the looks and I suspect it will have good driving dynamics. Hoping to see this trickle up to the XT5.

    To answer your question: carbon fiber all the way. Highly unlikely I would ever choose wood. Perhaps an small indication that they are effectively targeting a younger demographic? Test drove the sport today - loved it. I'll wait a bit for the price and/or interest rates to become more reasonable before I make the jump though.
    Some faves: sport mode/torque, massaging seats, tech package, comfort/adjustability of the front seats and lumbar, leg room in the back seat, panoramic sunroof (true... not short like Subaru unfortunately)
    The only thing I didn't love was the new braking - it's very different.
    I've already been told I'm too young to buy one... but it won't stop me. Thanks for the review!

    one issue with the premium compact SUV market is that majority, if not all the competitors cars look too childish (xc40) or feminine (bmw x2). The Cadillac looks upscale and mature, with good exterior proportions and high quality interior touches.

  • @Sevenfeet0

    A few notes....the design does look handsome. I'll reserve final judgement when I see it at my dealer. It's a bigger vehicle that the Chevy Bolt my wife drives but the dimensions still seem to be reasonably tidy. It is possible with this design to see a smaller model if this vehicle does well (XT2?).
    I'm very hopeful that I agree with the interior enhancements. As a long time and current Cadillac owner, Cadillac has for years seem to target where the marketplace is at the time the car was first sketched rather than where the market will be by the time of introduction. And while I don't see much in this car that hasn't been done elsewhere, if it's well executed, it should sell well. Cadillac has badly needed real switches and knobs back in the interior design (and high quality ones at that). Looks like we finally got that.
    I hope we get a V Sport version of this vehicle. Yes, it will require a substantial engine upgrade but I think it can be done in a reasonable production budget. But so far, so good.

    I’m not a crossover enthusiast, but I like the interior and some elements of the exterior. The plastic cladding makes it look cheap in photos. I also don’t care for this orange color, which seems to be featured in all their photos. I hope they advertise the heck out of these because it’s what everyone seems to want now. I’ll reserve judgement until I can see one in person.

    30Jan2019. Very sharp n awesome outfit. Cadillac definitely created a the best SUV Crossover imho. The economy of its Sport version is awesomely sweet package n the fuel economy will off set its overall price.
    A car manufacturer finally listened to the customer with this 2019 XT4. Well done boyz n girls. Now if I can swing the payments I want one really bad. I was considering a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited XPackage, n or a Subaru or 4Runner.
    But after comparing specs n other issues l think I have been shown my next outfit. I still love my 99 F250 Crew 7.3 PS, but hey this specific XT4 Sport is awesome in every way.
    I'd want to pull my custom PA14 behind it n am wondering if I would be able too without flooding the inside. I have a 2ft extension now, but think I'd need a 6ft if I go this route.
    If anyone out there has experience with using such equipment I'd appreciate a tell out. Thanks Ty

    The interior is gorgeous, the exterior is very nice, although the designer's original drawing had much cleaner and better looking tail lights. This would be a car I would consider if I could be assured that the reliability would be good. I am scared about how complicated the engine is especially with the cylinder deactivation. Cadillac had cylinder deactivation back and it was a disaster with their V 8-6-4.

      You are referring back to something they did in 1981-predating even Cimarron! I think Cadillac has learned a thing or two about engines over the course of nearly four decades. I can't remember the last time I heard "unreliable" and "Cadillac" in the same sentence.

    That's 10K in my pocket if I buy the fully loaded Volvo. - Not to mention the idea of a Cadillac just reeks of my grandfather. The Volvo may be owned by China, but is made in Belgium and the Swedes are also pretty decent people. To me Cadillac = Trumpillac. I absolutely hate the look of it and the symbolic message it represents. The XC40 is way more refined and some of your complaints (no USB-C and no Android/Apple) are incorrect, as of this writing. Anyway, in about 6 months neither of these will matter, since there will be a completely re-designed, gorgeous Audi Q3 which will (also be around 45K, fully loaded) blow them both off the road.

    I test drove one of these, a few problems. 1. NO GAS GAUGE NEEDLE (or temp gauge).. I WANT FULL SIDES NEEDLES (RED NEEDLES) on ALL of my gauges so I don't have to actually LOOK AT THEM, to determine what they are trying to tell me. Im an engineer, and have designed product that is used by humans, human engineering, and CLEAR GAUGES, that can be read AT A GLANCE is HUGE... Cadillac dropped the ball here. 2. TOO MANY BUTTONS.. here less is better... "scarcity of buttons" half of those 16 heater control buttons are "NEEDED" they rest is just clutter, a distraction. Most people will never touch 80% of those dash buttons. 3. traction control,. lane assist, brake mitigation these buttons are ALL OVER THE PLACE, some on the console, some on the dash center stack, and some to the left of the steering wheel, on the dash board there. CAN I HAVE EVERYTHING.. "RELATED" in one location PLEASE...
    Like I said, Im a mechanical engineer, and Im a "CAR GUY" I actually LOVE and restore cars as a hobby. GM hires the WORST engineers possible, CLEARLY these people ARE NOT "CAR GUYS"
    I have this argument at my job a lot too. You can tell something that was designed by a REAL ENGINEER, vs a guy that picked engineering school out of a catalog, thinking, "ohh, that sounds fun"
    The BEST ENGINEERS are ARTISTS.. it is born in them.. it is not something that you can learn in college.
    Its easier to turn a car guy into an engineer, than it is the other way around.
    sigh, Id like to say 'nice try Cadillac', but I honestly can't even say that in closing.
    I might buy a 2 year old used XT4 for $12,000.. Cadillac's have awful resale.

    Compared to the competition, I'd take xt4 any day. Though that's partly because I am a cadillac fan, it's my favorite company, but also because I configured one in my dream cadillac spec and it looks amazing

    I've been looking at a new small hauler and I had been curious about this since I first heard it announced. I've driven an XT5 for an extended period of time and was frankly unimpressed compared to market competitors. Going through the online configurator and spec'ing the XT4 out similar to other CUVs I've looked at, it is easily over $52K and not close to fully loaded. For that, I can get a Stelvio Ti... or other larger SUVs with similar options. For a vehicle that will most likely be leased, Cadillac will have to really aggressive on their money factor or discounts to compete (especially since 50K+ Stelvios are leasing for under around $400p/m 0 down). As for design, I like certain elements, but I wouldn't rate it better looking than the BMW X2. Honestly, Cadillac will have to discount this pretty heavily to make me consider it over the competition.

    just to give you my opinion since you asked: the amount of black plastic under the front grille is so cheap-looking in a luxury brand. I haven's seen it in person but the infotainment screen seems to be much too tilted backwards making it highly reflective especially with the moon roof shade open. the design is certainly way better than retarded small German CUVs, especially Mercedes. I would never buy German (Benz and BMW) cars since as much as they are status symbols, they show the owner knows nothing about cars, hence their IQ. those old days that germans were no.1 car makers is over. btw, I am not a fanboy of any brand, just love good cars with no prejudice.

    The black cladding or whatever it’s called around the wheel well and on the bumpers makes this look way cheaper than it should. I like the Escalade a lot but these SUVs just look too cheap. I can’t imagine anyone is going to cross shop these w a comparable Volvo or Audi.

    I don’t hate the styling, bits it’s a little dull and the headlights, even though they’re a signature, seems little gimmicky.

      Dull how? This vehicle looks better and maybe far outclass the competition. Just wait and see when you see this vehicle in person. It may change your mind. Videos and pics never do a car justice.

      mfmf100 lol what’s gimmicky about Cadillac’s lights? The fact that they’re like the ONLY brand not trying to mimic German headlight designs? Is it the fact they’re completely different from anything else on the road? Maybe the fact they stick out from the dull competition consisting of everyone doing the same thing, or the fact when you see them you *know* it’s a Cadillac? Ppl amaze me. Had they copied the Europeans or Germans ppl would be here saying GM is unoriginal. They’re original and ppl say it’s “gimmicky”. Lol. You simple can’t please everyone. I hope GM knows their lighting is one of my personal favorite things about Cadillac.

    • @mfmf100
      @mfmf100 5 років тому

      mybro727 if something’s different in an arbitrary way, largely for the sake of being different, it might be gimmicky. Didn’t say it doesn’t stand out and it cool if you and others like it.

      @autosofinterest3623 5 років тому +2

      mybro727 I agree. The vertical element in the headlights are probably my favorite Cadillac design cue. I love their distinctiveness and, like you said, there is no mistaking a Cadillac on the road because of those lights! I hope Cadillac uses that signature design element for a while to come.

    • @autosofinterest3623
      @autosofinterest3623 5 років тому +2

      mfmf100 what styling elements from any brand could not be described as "gimmicky"? By definition, styling-unlike design-is arbitrary.

    I don't know why they couldn't make the front end look more like the Escala concept. They come up with beautiful designs, then fail to execute. The design is ok but Cadillac actually needs to be a bit more daring as they like to say.

      FactFive I’m sorry, what?? Cadillac executed this vehicle damn near flawlessly. This 2019 model already looks better than damn near anything the competition has produced currently. Escala design cues on a xt4?? That would be so redundant since half of you already complain about the price of the XT4 as is. You people think you know but you don’t really know what you want.

    Love the unpainted lower plastic trim and how it goes all the way around the car. Its like a flowing river of cheapness.

    • @mybro727
      @mybro727 5 років тому

      GM V8 cheapness? It’s protective cladding. The top of the line brand new Mercedes-Benz GLC 63s Coupe (which i love btw❤️) has the same exact plastic cladding wrapped around the bottom of the SUV. I wonder if it’s a “flowing river of cheapness” too or is this plastic suddenly smart German engineering to protect the expensive paint? My goodness those Germans are so ahead of the industry. If only Americans thought of doing that. Lol. Hilarious.

    • @GMV8KSA
      @GMV8KSA 5 років тому

      The XT4 has the whole front and rear bumpers in 'cladding', and the GLC doesn't. But it would have made the XT4 way better looking if it didn't have it. Its not an off-roader or a work truck.

    • @mybro727
      @mybro727 5 років тому

      GM V8 yes the GLC does have that plastic cladding in the front and the rear even with the AMG bumpers although it’s a lot thinner of a lip than the Caddy on the front and the GLC 63s is also not a off road bias vehicle but I digress. I do think the front could have a lot less cladding here but it still looks very premium.

      Consumer Reports lists most Cadillac models below average for reliability and a friend’s Escalade was always in for service

    • @autosofinterest3623
      @autosofinterest3623 5 років тому

      The same goes for my friend's Mercedes and, before that, his BMW. Always in the shop. He's now trying Audi (he's determined to buy German). Shockingly, my neighbor's Lexus GS (which he bought new) was frequently replaced in his driveway with a loaner ES (he finally traded the lemon GS in for a new ES). I do not subscribe to Consumer Reports as their determinations can include factors that I would not associate with vehicle reliability. Thanks for responding to my question.

    • @jordancatcher6663
      @jordancatcher6663 5 років тому +1

      If your looking at the Germans , Audi will probably be your best bet (As nice as Benz and Bimmer are , reliability has been a rollercoaster for them). I don't go by consumer report's or Jd powers (Both have zero credibility in my honest opinion and some of their data is inaccurate).
      Though I myself have never owned a gm product , several of my family members have (Along with Toyota's and a few Hyundai's) and they were or are flawless (Currently , the gm crop includes a 19 buick envision , 11 Escalade , 03 Tahoe , and an 13 cruze). The Tahoe has 389k and runs like new (Only issue that has occurred was the right side mirror needed replaced) , the Escalade and cruze are only in the low 120k and have been good , the envision is still new to the family so I'll wait until further in the ownership to give you brief detail.

    Too little too late. A mid pack car at best for $54k properly equipped. Not like they didn't have time to study the competition. Interior is blah. Screen is angled for maximum glare. Just poor. Could have made it class leading but that would require effort. Why not give it the Camaro or Regals 2L turbo for class leading power? Just no effort
