How to Easily Crochet Lush & Seriously Snuggly Blanket

  • The Crochet Seriously Snuggly Crochet Blanket pattern is the alpine crochet stitch.
    This is a 4-row repeat that creates the texture. Knowing that Bernat Velvet Plus is hard to film, halfway through the tutorial, I restarted again using Red Heart Super Saver Ombre to demonstrate it a second time. This allows people to see it can be done with this yarn but also the second demonstration is more clear on where the stitches go.

    Love the Alpine Stitch!!! and love the look and feel of the velvet yarns! I was first introduced to the alpine stitch 3 years ago and decided I wanted to crochet a scarf with Lion Brand Ferris Wheel Morning Java. The yarn was so beautiful and soft, the colors so masculine and the flow of color change in the alpine stitch was perfect. A gift for my youngest nephew, I wanted to crochet a nice scarf, not just a scarf but a nice one for work or church and the alpine stitch was perfect but I was not! Took me 2 years to work it and pull out and rework it. I still had some rows that had a +1 or -1 that I couldn't figure out but it is so awesome that it was worth the work and with just a few rows off that I could see I hope he didn't notice and had a chance to enjoy it last winter. I think I need to give some thought to this blanket! Love this blanket and the stitch!!!

    Great explanation of this pattern. I made it in 3 colors because I couldn’t find enough of the first color. Looked great. I will say that the first several rows were very floppy. Perhaps I didn’t hold the yarn tight enough but I also switched to only chaining two at the end of the row and from then on it was much tighter.

    Great video. May I make a suggestion please? I think the video would have been even better if it began with the thinner yarn, and then showed the same thing with the bulky yarn. Then the demo with the bulky yarn would be perhaps easier to understand because it's hard to see the stitches with the bulky yarn. Nevertheless, a great video. Thank you. :)

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  2 роки тому +4

      It's a catch 22 for me. If I demonstrate with thin yarn, people want to see it with the real yarn. Then if I do real pattern yarn, they want the thinner. For me it's a losing opportunity when it comes to the fluffy yarn. You totally make sense though but I get complaints one way or another. I have a hard time brushing off the complaints.

    Help!!! I love your video, you are so clear and the pattern is gorgeous. I have started off w/ the odd # of sts like you said, but when I go into the 4th stitch, now I have an even # of sts bc we use that st (ex: 17sts, go into 4th st but use that st is only subtracting 3 and that's 14 - right?)
    I've watched your video 15x and redone the pattern 20x but it always turns out wonky. I looked the stitch up & the other videos say to start with an even # of sts, I don't know if that's a different version or I'm just screwing this up... I just know I am bummed I can't get this to work (& I'm not new to crochet)! If anyone has a thought on what I'm doing wrong, I am all ears! Thank you :)

    Hi Mikey, thanks for the great tutorial. I am pushing my myself and using the Velvet Plus yarn, knowing that I am going to have to work mostly by feel.
    I searched for a tutorial because in the stitch instructions it say to do the trip: two rows below at front of work, inserting hook from left to right. It's that an error in the pattern? I think we are inserting from right to left....anyway I tried it that way and it was very awkward. So glad for the tutorial.

    • @TheCrochetCrowd

    Hi Mikey, first of all, this pattern is so easy and I am loving it so far!! However, I am at the end of the first row of alternating treble front post dc’s and dc’s. You end yours with a trfp stitch and a dc, but the only “post” I have at the end of my row is that beginning chain. I did have an odd number of stitches (95) and I checked to see if I skipped any stitches, but it all looks accurate. Any ideas or suggestions of what I should do? I’m so confused as to why I ended up like that!! :/ Thanks!!

      Thank you for following up after you had figured it out. It saves me a lot of time when a person figures something out and they already know the answer. I'm glad you were able to problem-solve this out. Happy New Year.

      You can actually slow me down by using the gear on the player window to change my speed. It's the only way to accommodate all requests for changing speeds. All youtube videos can be changed in speed, not just mine.

    HELP. I am practicing this pattern before I use the velvet yarn. Is there a sample pattern/chart to use? I seem to get a hole on the odd numbered rows at the beginning. On even number rows is there a sc in the first stich along with the single chain? I appreciate the help. I just finished the velvety filet crochet baby blanket, it went very well, I'm very happy with it.

  • @shadymistkennel

    Just to clarify, the row is the length, so 67 chains is how long the throw will be? The number of rows determines the width?

    I have never crocheted in my life, but I want to make a blanket for my mother. She is helping me through a very dark time and I want her to know that I love her. Can I follow this tutorial using the Bernat Crushed Velvet Yarn? Will it turn out the same? How much yarn should I buy? The one I’m looking at says “Size: 300 g/10.5 oz, 288 m/315 yards,” is that alright for a single blanket or should I get a couple more? If anyone could help me out, that would be super cool :)

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  3 роки тому

      It will but you need to reduce the hook down to 5 mm / H hook if you are going to do that. You will need to review the stitch multiple to adjust for the size. A blanket may take 4 - 5 balls of you are doing the crush velvet but that's just a guess.

    Hi Mikey! With the textured side up, my right edge has gaps where the chains are. Is there a way to fix this?

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  2 роки тому +2

      This is normal for crochet BUT if you substitute Ch 3 at the beginning of a row to ch 2 instead, that will compress it and reduce the spacing. So there is a fix.

    Are using trebles just to get the height to compensate for the single crochet row? I'm not a fan of trebles and I'm wondering if I can just do a DC but pull up the loop to achieve the proper height so the blanket doesn't curl 🤔

      You would more yards as Bernat Blanket is smaller in weight scale. This is the same blanket design in Bernat Blanket. You will notice chain count different. ua-cam.com/video/Q37RiGkckzE/v-deo.html

    Hello from the Prairies in Canada! I'm having a problem. I'm using Bernat Blanket No. 6 (Super Bulky) yarn. With Right Side of the work facing me, the 'right side' of my blanket where the 'chain 3' begins the pattern, is really stretched out. I don't know what I'm doing wrong? Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks!

      You could just ch 2 if it's overly stretching instead if you find that helpful. Sorry for my delayed responses. There are 1000's messages to get through.

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  3 роки тому +2

      I would tie the strands together with about a 4" long end on each strand. Then use a tapestry needle to weave in both ends separately. That's what I would do.
