- Man around six months later, it is finally done, and I can move onto another project. I am glad I got to review this phone, and can't wait to review the next one if everyone enjoys this video. I got a bunch of videos that are ready to be edited and voiced, so I shouldn't be gone for over another month like last time (No promises!) but yeah. This TCL was great.

Wow this is incredibly well edited & presented great job!
Thanks!
@@BudgetBin Yeah your editing is great, love your animations & witty banter to go with them 😂
@@shaneeslick same these clips are really refreshing, really looking forward to more, hoping for some more budget build etc.
The issue with the screen adhesive also happened (is happening) on my current phone, and my solution was to just tape the screen to the body of the phone and it's working fine, love my 4 y/o phone.
Nice video. I bought this when it first came out, and have had a mostly nice experience. The one thing that I do have an issue with is the lack of support for most streaming apps. Only UA-cam and Netflix run well. All my other streaming apps are so choppy, that theyre basically unusable.
@@ibelongtohalo interesting. I never noticed any issue. But to be fair I wasn't using as many apps as you.
Ah TCL, a brand that you don't see very often! To this day, I still use my 10 year old Alcatel Idol X, which is also made by TCL. I do have several newer phones, but I keep getting back to this one. It's just that nice :) Very light and compact, and has an actual adequate, sensible 16:9 ratio screen, unlike anything modern.
I probably won't buy a TCL smartphone in the future though, as their software support is basically nonexistent, and oh boy am I tired of crappy software...
A very fun video 😊 I have Samsung s21 for three and a half years and I have only two problems with it, which is the battery that runs out quickly and the processor, but in general I love the phone very much and I do not think about switching it anytime soon because the cameras are excellent and the Samsung system one ui is very practical and wonderful.
I'm pretty frugal when it comes to phones (well, and most other things tbh).
Currently I have 3 Phones:
1. Samsung Galaxy A6 (2018) 3GB RAM/32GB 0€ (was thrown away bluescreening, managed to fix it)
2. Samsung Galaxy S6 3GB RAM/32GB 5€ saw it by chance on a listing site I frequently use to sell PCs I saved from the dumpster.
3. Asus Zenfone 3 4GB/64GB I bought it for 25€ but got 10€ back because it wasn't properly reset and the previous owner switched to apple long ago, thus forgot his google account... I eventually managed to get around the google protection, which I also had to do on the A6.
The Zenfone was supposed to become my main phone, but I can't find a decent cover for it and it's almost unusable without because of how slippery it is. That may sound silly, but it has a glass back and a very rounded bezel, meaning the moment your hand are even the slightest bit sweaty it's like handling wet soap.
I'm using a Samsung A71 that I bought from an ex-girlfriend. She wanted to sell it to get a itoddler but wasn't getting a good price in the used market, so I bought it for full price and threw in a little extra to help her get the phone. Honestly runs great, gaming, emulation, nice oled for watching videos and it has both a sd card slot and a headphone jack.
I have a budget phone myself, a Poco F5 pro, honestly best phone I've ever had, love the charging speed, love the camera, had iPhones Samsung's many phones previously, honestly love it, the worst phone I ever had I phone X hated it sold it after 2 days, brought it from apple for 1400 was disgusted.
Got my Moto G Power 22 model on sale for $150 right when the 23 model came out. Works great for what I use it for which is mainly internet and listen to music or podcasts while I work. For how much I paid I like it a lot.
What i've been saying to people for the past few years is at this point smartphones have stagnated to where the only thing that companies can really make larger changes or upgrades to are the cameras. You can easily get by with a budget phone now. It will be slower when compared to a $1000 flagship but when you can get a decent phone for $100 that preforms just as well if not better than quite a lot of the flagships day to day from 4-5 years ago i'd just buy a new budget one every few years. I have a moto g stylus 2021 and i paid $130 for it and its a pretty good phone and don't have too many issues that aren't os related. I'm pretty easy on electronics and i get a case and screen protector for them when i get the phone so even it it does take the occasional tumble the phone won't get damaged. I've also never ran into issues with the usb port and i used my last phone for four years after getting it used two years after the phones release. The only reason why i got the one i have now is that they didn't update the phone much and i was running into more and more apps saying the os was too old. Not having 5g really doesn't matter much on these budget phones before now since the 5g components added quite a bit of cost and the first generation 5g chips used a lot of battery. Now is when having 5g is going to start to matter because 5g has gotten cheaper and more towers have been built. The only thing you won't get on a budget 5g one is going to get is the fastest 5g chips that get gigabit speeds in large cities. But since i don't live in one of the 4 large cities in texas to take advantage of that.
Virtually everything you said, I agree with. I also really want to try the Moto G Stylus some day, or really any of the of Moto budget phones honestly!
@@BudgetBin They're pretty good phones and the last years one usually goes on a pretty decent sale. The one i got was released at $200 and i've seen it at $100 a few times over the last year. I'm looking at either the moto g stylus 5g 2024 or the power 5g 2024 when they go on a decent sale. The power 5g is $300 but i'm hoping around black friday it will go on sale for $50+ off. But this is one of the few phones that have 5g and 8gb ram with a headphone jack that would work with verizon while being pretty cheap. The moto g stylus also has them so witch one is cheaper around the end of the year i'm going to get.
Motorola g84. ~$200USD. Snapdragon 695, 12gig ram (!), 256gig internal, stuck a cheap 512gig sd card in it. Pretty bad cameras, but not terrible (50mp+16mp macro?). Pretty reaeonable bounce case, and 33watt charging. Good bright 120hz screen.
Just a nice little workhorse. There's way better, but there's way worse, at that price point. Even runs LLMs locally ok'ish. Do a bit of video editing, photo retouching, rendering animations, etc on it, and it works well (the extra RAM headroom is nice). Game on it without a problem. Wish I'd never updated to Android 13/14, because that was a terrible update.
for a 2024 discussion i think there is a no better time to buy an ex-flagship phone on a budget than now, for example a galaxy s20 or if you are quirky, an lg v60 (with the dual screen accessory) that sport a really respectable snapdragon 865 (while its succesor 888 and 8 gen 1 being very underwhelming upgrade and suffer thermal issue)
As a fellow Aussie I approve of that first message
That intro was amazing XD Loved the australian moment
Thanks! Yeah I had a lot of fun animating each segment :)
It’d be great to have more information about the other cameras on the back. It’s usually where budget phones compromise the most
Loved the video, new subscriber for your format.
Good video.
Kids, put your phone in a case or bad things will happen to it.
This is true! Last thing anyone wants is damaged hardware. Especially the ones who had to pay for it!
I still use my 5 year old realmi 6s but(64gb storage and 4gb ram a bit laggy) and now I got the old phone (redmi Note 12 pro)of a friend that I hat to fix the screen on, still not the newest but it's great 👍
I just switched from a nokia (yes, I know) back to a motorola. I have switched phone brands around a lot over the past few years, but I always find myself looking for something different when Im not on a motorola. TCL has been on my radar, but it went off my radar when the other letter jumble brand (LG) quit, I dont know why though
I actually really love Nokia since I have used there phones in the past. Just not that far into the past. I really need to check out more LG and Motorolla next time I get the chance.
@@BudgetBin I think you'd be pleasantly surprised!
Nokia's g22 is an interesting one, if you want to look for something to make a video out of. It uses the weaker unisoc t606, but its more performant t618 brother is used in emulation devices a fair bit. Its also supported by ifixit!
As for LG, they quit, so you can only find used models by now I believe. Motorola is just a boring, but solid phone company. I really like recommending it to older people, since some parts of their features work by just shaking the phone instead of tapping through menu's. Very thoughtful!
i have a Samsung A42 5G. idk what it cost due to me not buying it but serves me alright. 4g of ram and 128g storage and an aux port. camera is ok for me
Nice, budget Samsung phones seem pretty nice, I want to experiment with them in the future.
Creativity broo>>
G'day BB,
as an Aussie 0:13 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣although it should have been a Holden Ute instead of a Subaru, I don't live in "The Outback" but I do own a 2012 Holden Ute SS 🙃👎 & we love utes because they are a car with a Kangaroo Pouch 🤣.
PS I have a Samsung A12, It was free & I have a $10AUD plan giving me 2GB Data + Unlimited Calls & Texts. As I only have a Mobile Phone to use as a mobile phone to recieve calls when I am out, make emergency calls or send text messages it is brilliant as never in all my time with a smart phone have I even got anywhere close to using 1GB of Data.
PPS If the battery still worked I could still live with my Nokia 5110 as the only other feature I do use is Bluetooth, but could easily just go back to parking to use the phone when in the car.
Ah my bad mate! I was thinking of doing a Ford falcon even, and didn't even consider the number of Holdens! I'm glad you enjoyed the video as much as I gave my aussie accent a go!
Also, I miss my Nokia! I might review it some day when I get the chance. Nice phones they are. Always nice to see your comments.
Cheers mate.
oh yeah tcl i wanted to buy one last year but i didn't cuz the specs weren't that good even for the price
so i stuck with a flea market a3 2017 after my p20 broke in August then i got a battery for a p10 lite i had around and then the p10 lite got absolutely shattered like 2 weeks ago
i went and got a galaxy a15 4g it runs good for what i use my phone for
the p10 lite still technically works but very hard to use i use it for Hotspot and that's it
Nice. I wanted to experiment and go to flea markets or used shops and try to find tech, phones included. I wonder if I could get a good deal. TCL can be good that being said. Just gotta be selective.
@@BudgetBin if you are looking sometimes you might find an frp device on android basically the equivalent to activation lock but it can easily be bypassed i think on any Samsung that is only frp you can easily unlock but in the past few years they also madr their own thing called knox lock which is basically impossible to bypass usually frp is easy nut janky sometimes on most devices
Great video
The ACTUAL first? Surely not.
Certainly not the last!
@@BudgetBin it'll do me!
I recommend the poco f5 for anyone looking for a phone at the max 300$ price range
Good vid
Thanks :)
