    Another excellent video Fmnut. Good footage especially the CP EMD's and ALCO/MLW units and SOO units. I love seeing the old CAST containers on flat cars. Thanks ! 😁👍

    Love seeing footage of the bygone days of when CP had such cool and classic locomotives, like the original “straight SD40s”, MLWs, the GP9Us, and lots of SOO!

    Great footage! Where is the shot at 7:18? Everywhere else is familiar but I do not recognize that one location.

      I don't know exactly. We were following a local who guided us to the shots.

    I read somewhere that C A S T was a German company that bought CP Ships

      You have it a bit backwards. CAST was a Belgian company operating between Montreal and Antwerp. In 1982 they went bankrupt and were bailed out by a consortium of Canadian banks. They were acquired in 1995 by CP Ships. In 2001 CP Ships was separated from the parent company and in 2005 it was sold to TUI AG, a German company that also owned Hapag-Lloyd.

    Dude. In 1995. This may be footage of one of the final big alcos in service ever on CP they only had a few from re activqtions for power short issues and we all officially gone once the GEs arrived

    Are these tracks still in place, or like many CP lines, been lifted? Very nice video. Love the SD40-2's!

      Yes, the line is still in place and appears to be well used on Street View.

    So I had no idea CP had high hood SD's until I saw this video. I would have thought they were slugs if I didn't see the cab.

      +NewBoston Truck 1 They were simply used as B units, towards the end they had their cab windows plated over. CP has begun to do it with their remaining standard cab SD's as well.

      they are going the route of "ECO"?

    • @fmnut
      @fmnut  9 років тому +1

      +NewBoston Truck 1 Blocking off the cabs has no effect on emissions. It is simply done to save on the expense of inspecting/maintaining the control equipment and glazing in the cab.

      I understand that blocking the cabs off doesn't do anything for emissions. I was curious that they are sending out other locomotives doe "Eco" work and not here SD-40's. I guess, they were the main stay for quite a few years, maybe they are to worn out to spend the money?
