- American new jazz hero impresses as composer and soloist.
Immanuel Wilkins alto saxophone, Micah Thomas piano, Rick Rosato doublebass, Kweku Sumbry drums.
Immanuel Wilkins is a saxophonist with a penchant for grand gestures, with an engaging sound and epic compositions. His first album Omega was named the best of 2020 by New York Times and the most important jazz debut in years by JazzTimes. In early 2022, his most recent album, The 7th Hand, was released on the famed Blue Note label. On this release, Wilkins grapples with themes of religion and spiritualism in relation to music.
Immanuel Wilkins has played regularly with another new jazz hero, vibraphonist Joel Ross. Additionally, he has collaborated with artists from very different genres, and major ones too: Solange Knowles, Wynton Marsalis and Bob Dylan, for example. It shows the scope of the alto saxophonist, who is back on our stage after a year.

Do you know the name of the songs 1 2 and 3?
these four play so brilliantly together and they have refined their counter play together as they've toured. I saw them early in Chicago, they were great. Saw them a few months later in NYC, they we're so much more cohesive and locked in with each other, I didn't think it could get much better. And now to see this... they are one musical machine-perfectly in step with every motion-creating amazing art together. so proud of these young giants. keep growing and sharing your beauty with the world 🫡💯
correction: this is Rick Rosato on bass.
that ballad from 18:00 was sooooo nice. Light as a feather

Oh damn! Micah w the organ/piano combo
there is absolutely no words i could die listening to this and i'd be thankful
A band that stays together continues to sound better. I saw Immanuel with this group at the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival in Wilmington Delaware. I recall it was the drummer's birthday. What a power quartet defining contemporary jazz. These vibrations are being transmitted to Wayne Shorter's spirit.

I'd like to see him use soprano and tenor sax more often. He is still a juggernaut sax player though.
Boring and overrated
Please elaborate why
Boring and overrated@@guyguy5915
@rinahall that wasn't much of an elaboration
