I played Dwarves in 8th ed and took awhile to settle on anything for AoS. Salamanders are my marine force in 40k and love their lore. So when I saw some parallels to the Fyreslayers, I settled on them. Dark ashy skin with green and gold runes/"armors" looks really good on them as well.
This is another one of those rare armies where it's worth considering the Underworlds warband in AoS. While he's a bit steep at 200 points, Fool...er, Fjul does have a remarkably good accuracy booster command ability and serves as a fair melee fighter himself. He brings 6 wounds worth of custom bodyguards to the fight with him who just flat-out negate wounds and mortal wounds for him on 5+ when nearby (making him roughly an 8 wound character, more if you can eke out some healing) and have a moderate (more so if Fjul is still around) melee punch for their cost when things get tight. They're all slow as hell, but can keep up with a blob of Hearthguard as they steam up field. If you thought the Berserkers hit hard normally, watch them when they're hitting on 2+ with their attacks. And if you run Aurics, they can also catch wounds for Fjul, extending his lifespan even more at the cost of wounds on themselves. You will have to play Vorstag Lodge to benefit from him, though, which is a bit restrictive.

@@AgeofNagash Well, they're no Fecula Flyblown and pals, but we can't all be awesome Maggotkin, can we? :) And Fjul really does have a pretty strong unique command ability, although it can be difficult to keep big units "wholly within" for it so he works better with the elites. I hadn't thought about Fyreslayers in a while, but it seems to me the new all-giant army and those Lumineth bull-elemental beatsticks (very popular I hear) have maybe made the Auric Hearthguard more attractive. Everyone knows the Berserkers are good, but the Aurics shine at dealing with monsters (and helping your characters stay alive) and they meta seems to be shifting toward seeing them more often overall.

The wh fantasy slayers swore their oaths at a shrine to grimnir. The very same grimnir. While they aren't the same slayers, they are very similar stylistically. Fyreslayers are not seeking death like the wh fantasy slayers.
Which is more badass, seeking a glorious death to right your shame or seeking bits of your god to hammer into your flesh so you call upon the power of said god to become a temporary demi-god on the battlefield?

Can these be played against any 40k army? I’m new to this whole warhammer business and was considering starting with custodes but these dwarves look sweet as well
Hey man, firstly welcome to Warhammer! So unfortunately no these can not. They belong to the game called Warhammer Age of Sigmar, which is a separate game to 40K. The only armies that can be played in each game if Chaos Demons

Do not underestimate the shooting, every unit has an 8 inch throwing axe that can really weaken a soon to be charged unit.

In your opinion, what would be the best way to take on Fyreslayers with Great Waaagh or Flesh Eaters?
Oh well I have only use FEC against Fyreslayers and it was hard with their MW save. So maybe Big Waaagh.
I've only just started to play fyreslayers and tbh the few ranged they have are actually good(except for the throwing axes, they're trash)
I've just read there new book and now there throwing axes are finally feasible to actually hit yay!!!!!!

Kitbash the vulkites from the 3rd and 4th start collecting boxes. You only need 20 vulkites, 40 hearthguard with 20 of each weapon. Eaasy and cheap
