To start, thank you for having audio. It looks like a lot of people like to make videos and just have an on screen follow along type of tutorial. Also, thanks for speaking slowly and clearly. I still need to finish the video and apply what is being shown but already stoked that i stumbled across your tutorial.
This saved me from loosing my sanity... I was about to give up on android all together, but this saved it by making it easier to install it... Thanks for the video!
I thought so too, its a deep sea critter - A Blob Fish; It gets me noticed if I'm in a streaming chat room thats rather busy - people get drawn to my comment as the comments scroll up at light speed.
Thanks again for another inspirational video tutorial. Now if I can just get my Raspberry PI 3 to work on different operating systems I'll be a happy camper.
Thank you Sir... for inspiring me to blow the dust off my little Pi, and following this tutorial bringing it back to life !.. This is a great way to set up the Pi for it is much better to have multiple Os
Hi Chris I have been trying to install MotionEye OS from a downloaded image file but without success. I had given up on it and decided to do some experimenting with BerryBoot because I had seen this video some weeks ago. BerryBoot is fantastic and the installation is really easy as you have demonstrated but the best thing is it includes MotionEye OS as an operating system. So I gave it a go and it worked perfectly. Thank you very much for introducing me to BerryBoot. Best wishes Arthur
thanks for this. I had a problem with noobs not booting raspbian with a dual boot and I just gave it up and did this and it just worked straight away. Thanks
Another excellent video. I like the idea of BerryBoot, it is a useful tool if you want to test multiple operating systems on one memory card and I like the feature of being able to backup/restore and load different OS off a USB device. However for me I would rather have one operating system per memory card as multi-booting can become messy over time and if the card goes bad you lose all of your operating systems in one fell swoop which makes backing them up all that more important. Thanks for another fantastic Raspberry Pi video, looking forward to your next video.
Excellent video. Loving this channel just for so many reasons!!! You probably know, but you can give the RPi a little more juice for the USB that will power some (but not all) USB 2.5 drives (I guess depending on drive current draw needs). My 500GB OMV NAS in RPi is just powered from the PI USB power source and runs like a dream!
Truly innovative piece of s/ware this Berryboot, and thank you for bringing it to our attention. It certainly opens a whole load of new possibilities. Thanks
warning for new berryboot users don't do sudo dist-update/upgrade. berryboot uses its own kernels, this type of update, updates the kernels to one's not compatible with berryboot and bricks your micro SD forcing you to format and start from scratch. the fault raspibian shows on boot is because berryboot manages partition space between the various OS's installed, so raspibian cannot resize the partition. raspi-config can also be unreliable on USB storage (sometimes thinks it's not on a pi) I'll edit when I remember my fix. thanks for the great video. more people should use berryboot, despite its small faults it's a really good. p.s. please look at the new pixel version of raspibian. :)
Berryboot for RPi 4 doesn't seem to work. The sequence - format, copy extracted files to usb - does not boot like it does here. Is it because Berryboot is meant to boot via microSD?
Hola, Muchas gracias por este aporte que da a nuestra raspberry pi mas dimensiones y mejores opciones de trabajo, haciendo que este instrumento de computacion sea más versatil, saludos desde Aguascalientes, Mexico
You're a great person, keep doing what you do, if you don't like what you do, then do something else. That might not have made much sense, but my point is, do whatever you want, I will probably support you.
Thanks. I try to keep as many viewers as possible happy, and normally this happens when I make videos on subjects I enjoy. Right now, I am trying to keep the channel going on a weekly basis as I focus on other stuff (like finishing a book). There then be more 'major' content -- including various build videos -- in November and December. There are lots of videos I want to make and that I think will be popular, but it all takes time! :)
Nice! Very cool...dual boot from a SD card, very nice...now I can install Raspbian and Armbian on the same device. Would like to see a rudimentary command shell and/or a check partition for errors because I sometimes have issues with Armbian locking up (might be my non-name brand SD card) disregard...it's already in there Learned something new each and every day...great video!
Have you ever tried installing BerryBoot onto a USB thumbdrive after setting the OTP memory to enable booting from the USB thumbdrive? I'm trying that now but it won't seem to start BerryBoot even though the OTP is set correctly (shows the 3020000a) Thanks for your tmie
ExplainingComputers Ahhh well I’ll check back and wish you luck! I gave up after trying it all day yesterday haha I thought it would be a great idea having BerryBoot start either Raspian, Ubuntu Mate or RetroPi depending on what you wanted to do. I was going to use a Lexar 128 Gig USB Thumb drive so it was more compact for travel. Cheers!
FYI I am unable to get Berryboot to work with wifi on the Raspberry Pi v3, Berryboot sees the wifi lets you select the wifi just gives an "Error connecting or obtaining ip address. check settings" , even if I give it a bad password I never get a bad password error this tells me Berryboot sees the connection but cant connect, also noticed after installing Ubuntu Mate you have to reboot mate before it will start seeing wifi but Berryboot never connects to wifi, wifi works perfect on all other operating systems I have installed on the v3 Pi Berryboot is the first not to work with wifi. Thanks for the Berryboot video am loving it.
I install Raspian on the SSD card using bootberry, but I notice it does not have a swap file. free -h shows zero swap size (used other tools to verify no swap file ). /etc/dphys-swapfile does not work on this configuration. I need to run opencv for my project so I need a swapfile. Can you help with the best approach to create swap file without dphys-swapfile on this configuration? Thank you
Hi, thank you very much for this video about letting BerryBoot and try it on Raspbery Pi 3 Model B + and it works. I tried downloading Ubuntu Mate, installed it. But a bit heavy video viewing and wlan will not work. I'm experimenting with others like Kalix Linux :-) but it si bad.
I am not sure if you have already answered but may i know how to enable ntfs media for berryboot to read .img more than 10GBs. I have inserted the USB of NTFA partition but it says no media found. it only supports exfat32 or fat32
Hello, your video is very good, but i've an other problem, is it possible for you to add a tuto to explain how to convert an *.img file in squashfs format wich is recognized by berryboot to install a new OS from an USB drive ? I need that to install a personal raspbian OS. Thx for your nice job
glad to see another raspberry pi video quick question is there a way to force osmc to display a high resolution other than what's in the menu got a 32 inch tv that I use for my pi think the resolutions something like 1280 x1360 or something like that
Hello! Again and again great videos explained super clear! Thank you!!! But how does it work with the Raspi Model 3B +? In another video, you talk about booting an operating system directly from a USB stick or SSD. I read on Google that you can flash the image directly on the stick and you do not need an SD card. Is that also possible with Berryboot? How does it behave? It would be great if I could do without the SD card and then run Berryboot on my USB stick or on my SSD disk ... The Raspi 3B + should do the boot from the USB stick much more stable than the Raspi 3B. And how does the boot from the network work on the Raspi3B +? Is it possible to set up a NAS on the Fritzbox to start the operating system from there? Maybe you can make a video about installing the Raspi 3B + which handles booting a system with Berryboot from USB, SSD or network. (Sorry for the possibly worse google translator English ... ;-)
Thanks! I tried this on a pi4 & SanDisk 128gb ultra card formatted to fat32 (on Linux) and copied the files onto it but it won't boot, not even the coloured square ... Any ideas please?
How does the hard drive space for each distro get allocated? Say I wanted a small Kodi install because all of my media is on a NAS but wanted to run a RetroPie install with all the media being local on the SD card. Obviously i'd need the RetroPie install to be allocated much more space. Sorry if that was covered in the video. I may just be tired but I don't think it was.
Hello, nice channel! been watch a few of your videos, nice work :) Quick question on using berryboot: Would this in theory be a "safer" way to boot your operating systems, from an SD corruption point of view? If I understand it correctly, berryboot would boot from the SD card, then say you choose to install another OS on a USB thumb drive that's connected then have it boot from there. If you were to "yank" the power cord or do an improper shutdown the SD card should in theory not be affected? I know that most linux operating systems dont like that to much, but can generally survive that. Thoughts?
You are right -- this will make it less likely to get a corrupt SD card, as the OS resides elsewhere. With Berryboot it is also very easy to make backup copies of your OS installs, so again protecting against corruption.
Thanks.. I have Raspberry PI and is not loading from SSD Card...starting and then black screen. I want to rescue some files from SSD card so can not format. I set up BerryBoot on USB and want to start from a stick but does not work. I do not have the same screen as you have.
Hallo, thanks for the video, really helpfull content. I have a question: I have built a gameboy with a raspberry pi Zero inside, I do have two USB ports on the outside, can I use multiple MicroSd cards with this operating system? I mean, would my raspberry pi zero boot the system from a micro sd card pluged in into one of the Usb ports while the main microsd card (with retropie) is still pluged in into the mother board?
RPi and its like are outdated, disposable boards for media centers but so cheap it replaces your average Wellemann electronic kits entirely. You could use it in devices like fingerprint scanners, R/C robots, surveillance cameras, GPS trackers, geiger-meters, probably LEGO-builds etc etc I wonder when you will start doing these things?
Love your videos! Can I transfer an existing form of retro pi to a berryboot card or to an external hard drive without reinstalling my games? ( I'm still learning )
I was afraid you were going to say that. Having a dedicated disk for retro pi isn't so bad. Berry boot will still be good for the other OS's I want to learn. Thank You for the response.
why isn't there an off and on switch on pis?????? when i shut down , i want it to stop using my electricity , so i have to unplug it all the time. seems like it would help to have an off switch. any thoughts?
very very nice you can boot from an external drive but i feel like its a setback if you have to still initially have a micro sd to boot from an external drive.i can see how this can be good thought like i could create a retropi thats portable with berryboot on say a 6 gb and have all the library of games on en external drive with mutch more storage space.is this how the last part of the video is or do i have it all wrong
QUESTION: I have a USD Card with Rasbian preloaded from Amazon.com. Can I load BerryBoot onto that uSD card while Rasbian is on it? Or do I have to completely reformat the uSD card and then load BerryBoot and then add Rasbian and LibreElec? BTW... loved your explanation and I've subscribed. I'm new to Rasberry Pi, so this is most helpful. Thanks.
I have a question... So after installing an OS to an external drive, when I boot into the OS that is on that external drive, will any apps or software that I install within that OS also be installed to the external drive? Or will those programs be installed to the SD card by default? If so how can I go about ensuring that they DO install to the external drive? Any help, tips and knowledge would be greatly appreciated!
I tried it last night and worked like a dream. Now to just figure out how to get full version Kali Linux over flash drive....I love your channel btw and thank you very much for responding to me so quickly btw.
Boot from usb ssd (sda) on a PI 3. I have the Element14 Pi Desktop mounted on top off the Pi 3. Don't forget to change your Pi 3 to boot into USB with command "program_usb_boot_mode=1" in your "config.txt" or test it with command "vcgencmd otp_dump | grep 17:" it repports back "17:3020000a" if the USB boot flag is set. Before installing or using Berryboot create a FAT32 partition on your ssd (usb stick) about 300MB, label it "BOOT". You can partition the ssd on your windows desktop by a usb cable connected to your win 10 desktop en create the FAT32 partition (with MiniTool Partition Wizard). After booting of the sd card and install all your systems, reboot into Ubunu Mate and copy all the files from the sd card (berryboot) to sda1 (BOOT). Remove sd card and reboot. Ready.
ExplainingComputers i got a standard rasbian working but ubuntu mate wouldnt start. With berryboot it does along with openelec. Nice and shining next to my tv
Almost everything is shot on a Sony HVR-V1E (a very old 3-chip camcorder now) but recorded from its HDMI to an Atomos Ninja recorder. All of my screen grabs also go into the Ninja. For close-ups, my secret weapon is adding a +2 close up filter on the front of the lens. This works on any camera, and allows focusing between 25 and 50 cm with full use of the zoom range on the lens (so far better than using a camera's macro mode). So very much old-school photography and optics are the key. Also a lot of light (usually 650w x2) to stop down the lens.
Chris, could you teach us how to make Kodi and EmulationStation (separately, as different installs) boot up as fast as humanly (...or computerly..?) possible, so that it looks like a commercial product when we turn the Pi on? I guess you couldn't make the logos disappear unless you edit the kernel, I really don't know. But if you can, then that's a plus.
Hi. Thanks for the awesome video. I was wondering if there is a way to install say Kodi (LibreELEC) to sd card and Retropie to a usb flash drive? In my attempts when adding an extra OS it does not give me the option to select a 2nd location.
I have been binge watching your vids the last few days and absolutely love them..especially the raspberry pi vids...however I have a question for you I hope you read these comments and can answer.. I have a raspberry pi 3b and 3b+ and I cannot ANY OS other than raspian to load on either of them..I have tried Berry boot, OSMC, ubuntu Mate and others and none of them will boot I have followed all of the directions I am finding on youtube and frankly am getting a bit frustrated. are the new pi's simply not compatible with the downloadable OS on Raspberrypi.org?? I am using a 32 gig samsung micro SD can you shed any light on this ?
OS image support for the Pi 3 B+ is still emerging. Other distros will catch up in time. My recent videos on different distros indicates which currently run: ua-cam.com/video/_rfZ9FW19hI/v-deo.html I have now run OSMC on a Pi 3 B+ : here is the link: download.osmc.tv/installers/diskimages/OSMC_TGT_rbp2_20180805.img.gz
I went through and did all this but wanted to back up all my roms and files on my SD card. When I plug it into my computer, all I see are the files that were at the beginning of this video (overlays, etc) Why can't I see all the other folders that I know are in there?
To start, thank you for having audio. It looks like a lot of people like to make videos and just have an on screen follow along type of tutorial. Also, thanks for speaking slowly and clearly. I still need to finish the video and apply what is being shown but already stoked that i stumbled across your tutorial.
This saved me from loosing my sanity... I was about to give up on android all together, but this saved it by making it easier to install it... Thanks for the video!
WOW this little thing can multiboot.. I just got my first Pi .. still waiting for the accessoires to show up in my mail.
1000 thumbs up, if I could. A rarely very well made tutorial which needs no revisitation, addition or removal! The power of the pioneers! 😄
Many thanks. :)
y2ksw1 yes it does need more information how can you can add more os in berry boot without it saying it needs to be squashfs file
ExplainingComputers how can you add more os in berry boot because it keeps telling that the img file needs to be a squashfs file
Even now this is still helpful, thank you
Spot on, Mate. This will be my go to channel before I go anywhere else. Many thanks.
Thanks for the video! I'm getting a Raspberry pi soon and having this will simplify booting between Raspbian and OpenELEC so much.
I have to say thank you, simple and properly explained so that even a beginner like me understands it.
This is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a better way than Noobs and this is definitely better than Noobs. Much appreciated!
Hello! This application is already available for version 4 of the Raspberry Pi... Cool!
What a GREAT Teacher - wish we had more of you in my school back-in-the-day :)
Thanks. :) Cool icon.

Perfect timing! I was just wondering how to do this on my raspberry pi

Hi Chris
I have been trying to install MotionEye OS from a downloaded image file but without success. I had given up on it and decided to do some experimenting with BerryBoot because I had seen this video some weeks ago. BerryBoot is fantastic and the installation is really easy as you have demonstrated but the best thing is it includes MotionEye OS as an operating system. So I gave it a go and it worked perfectly. thanks for this. I had a problem with noobs not booting raspbian with a dual boot and I just gave it up and did this and it just worked straight away. Thanks
You do a really good job thoroughly explaining things
Thanks.
I've always enjoyed your videos. Very professional, easy to follow and loads of practical information. Keep them coming!!
Thanks. I have no plans to stop . . .
Lol! the man reminds me of those 1970s Lecturers on Open University (OU) on BBC 2 😂😂😂. He explains very well!.
I was thinking the same thing... I was also thinking, "Well, now we know what Davros looked like before he ended up in the wheelchair".
This video has answered my search question spot on! Thank you very much! I'll enjoy playing with this tool on my Pi's.
The part about "Hold the button and ..." saved my evening. Couldn´t figure it out myself!
@ 07:12 🤔😉
Thank you so much for this video EC! I am getting a Pi soon and this was exactly what I needed to know!
Excellent!

Congrats on 100k!
It has been a long time...
It has indeed.
Berryboot for RPi 4 doesn't seem to work.
The sequence - format, copy extracted files to usb - does not boot like it does here.
Is it because Berryboot is meant to boot via microSD?

This is Pi only I'm afraid.

Thank for the great videos
Will this multiboot works with Raspberry pi4?
Probably not! :)
100,000 subs.

Cool 100 subs
Matthew Morciglio no you only have 9 subs so I have more than you
Thanks a lot Chir, just what i was looking for mate!
Congratulations! It is an excellent job. It can be included in the boot OSMC and Retropie? Greetings.
Yes, you can include OSMC and Retropie in the boot, no problem.
Strange though since the latest Berryboot works fine with my Raspberry Pi 3's wifi.
Interesting content, well explained and presented.
Very informative and useful guide. Thank you!
I install Raspian on the SSD card using bootberry, but I notice it does not have a swap file. free -h shows zero swap size (used other tools to verify no swap file ). /etc/dphys-swapfile does not work on this configuration. Very nicely explained, thank you
thanks Chris, for another great video for the raspberry pi 2!
I thought I would let the Pi 2 out to play. I still like the case it is in. :)
Hi professor! Can you create a video on raspberry projects for beginners under $100?
A very useful video. Thank you.
I am not sure if you have already answered but may i know how to enable ntfs media for berryboot to read .img more than 10GBs. I have inserted the USB of NTFA partition but it says no media found. it only supports exfat32 or fat32

Hello! Again and again great videos explained super clear! Thank you!!!
But how does it work with the Raspi Model 3B +?
In another video, you talk about booting an operating system directly from a USB stick or SSD. I read on Google that you can flash the image directly on the stick

It would be great if I could do without the SD card and then run Berryboot on my USB stick or on my SSD disk ...

Maybe you can make a video about installing the Raspi 3B + which handles booting a system with Berryboot from USB, SSD or network.
(Sorry for the possibly worse google translator English ... ;-)
Congrats on 100k
It sucks that UA-cam thinks I shouldn't be subscribed here...I know I was subbed and I had to resub

Hello, nice channel! been watch a few of your videos, nice work :) Quick question on using berryboot: Would this in theory be a

great vid. walked me right through the install. kit kat isn't booting for me though. any advice?
My first guess is that the download was corrupted, so I would try downloading again. Fingers crossed.
great video. can u review Android OS in detail also please tell us how to install the play store in it to
Thanks. Android on the Pi is a great idea for a video -- if I can get a version that works well . . .

Mr. Christopher, would you be so nice and made a video about properly installing graphics driver on Linux?
Love your videos! Can I transfer an existing form of retro pi to a berryboot card or to an external hard drive without reinstalling my games? ( I'm still learning )
Sadly, as far as I can find, you have to install from scratch. :(
I was afraid you were going to say that. Having a dedicated disk for retro pi isn't so bad. Berry boot will still be good for the other OS's I want to learn. Thank You for the response.

Thanks.
You would have to reformat the card I'm afraid.
I'm just wondering how do you do screen recording while the raspberry pi is rebooting
I use an HDMI recorder. :)
@@ExplainingComputers Thanks for telling might be useful for me in future
I have a question... So after installing an OS to an external drive, when I boot into the OS that is on that external drive, will any apps or software that I install within that OS also be installed to the external drive? Or will those programs be installed to the SD card by default? If so how can I go about ensuring that they DO install to the external drive? Any help, tips and knowledge would be greatly appreciated!
By default any apps you install will be on the external drive, along with the OS.
I was able to put all the operating systems on a 16 gig SD card
Great Job thanks for making it simple
Would it be possible to add this file to a SD card using a raspberry pi 3 b+ running raspbian OS instead of having a separate computer?
Almost certainly. :)
Ready.
Thanks for this. By coincidence my video this week covers booting a Pi 3 from an SSD connected via USB. :)
ExplainingComputers i got a standard rasbian working but ubuntu mate wouldnt start. With berryboot it does along with openelec. Nice and shining next to my tv

Christopher: Annnd there we are
Good job chief.
Well. It's pretty interesting. I'll test it too.
Where are the files for each OS kept on the SD card? Are they kept separate? What decides how much space to allocate for each OS?
Found my answer. raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/9448/where-can-i-find-the-different-os-partions-made-with-berryboot-on-an-sd-card
Thank you for the review!
I am curious what kind of camera you use to make your videos - all of your images, especially the closeups are very clear and crisp!
Would it be better to use BerryBoot on a larger SD card (64GB) or just install the Ones on smaller SD cards (32GB)?
Amazing! Thanksfor sharing, great job
do you know how this boots? why do i not need to flash it?
Chris, could you teach us how to make Kodi and EmulationStation (separately, as different installs) boot up as fast as humanly (...or computerly..?) possible, so that it looks like a commercial product when we turn the Pi on?
I guess you couldn't make the logos disappear unless you edit the kernel, I really don't know. But if you can, then that's a plus.
This would be hard I think! :) I will ponder . . .
