In mexico we watch Mexican boxing. the best of the best against each other. Mexican states competing with one another. rivalry at its finest. And the best of the best of them get the "big" fights against other countries and "foreign" fighters . The "money" fights. and by then instead of just having your state supporting you, You have Mexico as a whole given you the support. You are representing us. The mexican ppl . And hearing about American boxers that are Mexican,we feel just as proud bc they are also representing Mexico just by being mexican. we see them as brothers off living in different lands that are making it. and representing that Mexican last name. Mexico is prideful.
specially in a sport like boxing, where your against "other people". We support Mexico in everything.
Canelo like many other Legendary mexican fighters.( julio cesar chavez, salvador sanchez, ruben olivares, juan manuel marquez to name a few) dominated their cities when beginning their career. then dominated their state, then the Mexican states. Then against Champions fighting under and for different flags. they kept on beating their best fighters so they kept on giving them more . Becoming Legends in Mexico. Representing the Mexican Flag. at this point your out of Mexican Boxing( mexican against mexican). your out there doing the big fights getting the Real money. But every once in a while like in jaime Munguias case, A fellow mexican is also dominating and gathering fans around the world. Mexicans dont fight with a mexican because one brother will lose and their opportunity diminishes a little. we prefer for both of them to win against other ppl/ flags but when they both become become Big with outstanding boxing records. The Mexican Rivalry, the one they started off with, Mexican vs Mexican comes out. And that Brings out the Best out of Mexico, we considered them Legendary fights. All of Mexico celebrates.
In Canelos Case, as a undisputed world champion, holder of 4 belts , and the face of boxing, he has the worlds attention. whenever he fights the whole Boxing world sees and the rival gets promoted like never before, gathering more more fans, more money, more fame, and a Real good name on their resume. At this point, Canelo in Mexico could be critized for not fighting his own, and not bringing attention to the mexican ppl and its fighters. Thats why Canelo decided to fight Munguia, to bring attention to him, bringing extreme opportunities to Munguias career. like Oscar de la hoya said after the fight " this is just the beginning of Munguias career" He is now viewed and recognized by the public.
Just like when the prior face of boxing Floyd Mayweather fought young 23 year old Canelo Alvarez. (imagine canelo fighting a 23 year old boxer😳)
It was a stepping stone for canelo, he had the peoples attention and thats when you go on to the next gear and prepare for your best fights to prove yourself to all these new fans and keep on getting more fans fight after fight.
Munguia gained A LOT of new fans last night, and even tho he is 43-1 this is just the beginning,It will just go uphill from here. we ought to see them best of him in these coming years. Canelo said it many times, He is thankful of giving Jaime the opportunity and that he deserves it. That Munguia is a Respectful Boxer and a strong One. He was promoting him, solidifying Munguias career.
Why would he give this Blessing to fighters that disrespect him ? Look at every fighter that is in canelos weight class. EVERYONE says the same thing . That they want to fight canelo and say they will beat him. Offourse theyre going to say that, they are supposed to say that. Thats Securing your career right there. If you fight Canelo that means you were Elite and good enough to go up against the current king of the sport, the pound for pound champion, and thats one hell of thing to have written in your resume. Not mentioning the MONEY they will make off that one fight. They step up a level even if they lose.
Canelo learned a lot about the Business side of the sport from Floyd, To them its more than just going out to box and win. its about creating a game-plan. They understand that its not about fighting who the public wants you to fight at that moment.They are passed that, they did that their whole careers to be at this point and at this position. Now You let the ball roll, and wait for the right moment when The whole world wants to see the fight. Not only are you going to Generate A LOT of Money, but you let the ball roll to a point where ppl doubt you and start believing that you are ducking and afraid to fight this opponent. Thats what creates a mega fight. You let the ball roll and now once again like in the upcoming days of their career, they will be fighting to prove themselves and show the world who they are and what they are made of.

Obviously the bigger fight will be the one in 3 years from because ppl will solidify their belief in canelo ducking Benavidez and that Benavidez is a top formidable opponent. Mega fight.

I dont expect you to understand, I really dont. Most people dont see it like that, And never will. its not something you figure our just by reading it or watching. You have to actually understand the whole thing. the Sport side, the Business side, and too many other things that are deeper than that, you have to be brought up in the boxing world to be able to grasp just a bit of that information.
In his fight against Munguia in the last round, Canelo could have knocked Munguia out search it up, watch Munguia about to go down when Canelo reacher for him and holds him up. Not wanting to demolish the young Mexicans career. Another brother from the same place and beginnings as him, cant do that to him.
Watch him fight Caleb Plant, as soon as he ends the fight he goes up to him, apologizes, tells him he is his family and gives him his support. He doesnt want to show off that he is stronger and better, he understands that these are men fighting for their families, their legacy, its their dream so he motivates them and apologizes. A Genuine humane person with empathy. Thats A Great. compare that to fighters like we have all seen, dance in the ring, making faces and all that sht while beating their opponents up. showing No Respect. That speaks a lot about who they are as a fighter and a person. no real role model.
Just an individual who has lost the battle against his own Ego. like i said, you wont understand, but there are few out there that will. The few that know the true sport of Boxing and what it really is.
Canelo has said it many times, its about going all 12 rounds. Giving the opponent the opportunity to showcase their art in the ring. Its not about demolishing them and ending their hopes, but showing these younger fighters that theres room for improvement and betterment.
