  • How to Get Rid of Shin Splints by Foam Rolling
Shin Splints aka Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome is pain on the inside lower portion of the leg.
Shin splints are common with distance runners, track athletes, basketball players, tennis players and people who are just getting into working out.
it is typically an underuse into activity type of stress and can also be caused by really tight calf muscles.
Tight calfs will pull on their insertion point to the tibia, the lower leg bone, this constant pulling can cause pain in the leg.
If you can foam roll this area properly you can break up these tight muscle fibers and help relieve shin splints

Good video, and you actually explained what shin splints are instead of just calling them a pain in your shin

I’ve been struggling with this for awhile. I start running, get shin pain, stop, rest, it gets better and then when I start running again it comes back 😩 I’ve tried everything: yoga, stretching, icing, massage, strengthening exercises, switching from running on the street to dirt... everything!! But this has helped me the most.
I watched this video the other day after my run. Tried this out (I’ve been foam rolling my calves, just not this specific part) and it was so tight and knotty! I was like this has to be it. The next day the pain was almost gone!!! I am going to go out running today when I didn’t think I was going to be able to and then I’m going to do this afterwards.
Honestly I was kind of skeptical about if this would work, cause I’ve tried so many things that haven’t helped, but I’m so glad I did! If you have shin splint type pain you have to try this!! Thank you so much for making this video!!!! 🙏

Is foam rolling out shin splints suppost to be painful? The front left side on my leg is a little swollen and my outer right part of my leg also has some pain. Whenever I roll out my leg it hurts and I'm just curious if this is suppost to hurt.

Thanks for this, I have been hobbling for days and this has eased up the pain somewhat after one try. I find rolling under my leg super painful - how long each day would you do on each side? I can barely do more than one roll on the back of my leg...

Holly K-C Great to hear from you so I would say it’s not how long but if there is a change noticed so you can do something as simple as stretching the car off or walking around on your toes roll the notice if it changes. Also if it’s super painful don’t feel like you have to roll back-and-forth instead you can apply pressure and then do circles with your foot

Just had a few questions; (I have really bad/persistent pain in my lower inner shins)
    1. How many times a day/per set should I do a full up/down roll?
    2. During the roll my shin pain flares up, and right after doing the roll my shins feel tingly. Is this normal?
    3. How long should I expect to wait before it starts having an effect on day to day pain?

Sylvia Grimme honestly no, i’m just resting and not playing basketball (what hurt the most) and trying out biking which is less impact on the legs, i’m also icing after that and not foam rolling

      @sylviagrimmegarciapena8282 3 роки тому

Ronak Lashkari that sucks to hear, I really hope your shin splints heal, I got them a few months ago and they were reallyyyy bad, with foam rolling, icing and stretching they eventually went away like two weeks later. I got them back this week and I’m rlly praying they go away as fast as last time.

Shin split sufferers you need nose breathing- antioxidant supplements (quercetin, pycnogenol, astaxanthin etc.), vitamin D, increase nitric oxide levels (drink beetroot juice and take l-arginine, l-citrulline supplements) and at least 2,5lt water a day and maybe wear compression socks. This problem is un oxygenated muscle problem... and than do your stretch workouts. I am not a doctor just a sufferer like you, so before doing any of these ask your doctor if it is ok for you.
