Suarez is arguably a better striker then Ronaldo he is much better from outside the box and has a wider range of goals look at the amount of volleys he has scored throughout his career not only that he is much more creative he has over 150 career assists and in 2015/16 he scored 59 goals and 16 assists the only player in la Liga history to be top scorer and top assister in a season

Most of the video is just Ronaldo being chased by 5 opponents, who he either beats or they have to foul him.
Phenomenal, he was basically a one man team.
There were a few other good players on Inter, but no one was more impactful than him.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Why don't his team mates assist him in the attacking third? No full backs providing a passing option to spread play wide. Midfielders not making any runs into the box. That too in an overly defensive Italian league. He had to do it all on his own. No wonder he didn't rack up goals and assists like Messi or Ronaldo.

He was only 21 during the season of this video (he turned 22 in Sept. 1998).
A 21 year old with his physical gifts and skill set would have a transfer fee of 250+ million these days.
By this age, he'd already won the Ballon d'Or AND FIFA World Player of the Year among many other accolades.
At his prime he was not only quick and technically superior but also physically strong and robust.

Hey Ufuk, always a pleasure to see people like you who I can discuss and analyse things, I.ll try to be as much objective as I can be, although I.ve been a R9 fan, I.ll try to tell some points. I agree with your statement that Ronnie had everything, I think that was cristal clear visible to everyone, he had an impressive speed, something extraordinary, especially the way he was running with the ball on his feet, he had great mass and resistance with incredible amount of agility, he was also slim, quick, flawless. For me, Ron had a different style, Messi has a lot of similarities in his style with Diego, but Ronaldo has a superb style, different from what they saw till then, it.s a combination of skills, running full speed and incredible dribbling ability, great technique and great ball control, this is let.s say brazilian style of play, like Pele first did a long time ago, he was the founder basically, the next 2 guys who somehow played in a relative similar style were Ronaldo and C. Ronaldo, Ronaldinho didnt have the same control in dribbling like Ronaldo and that amazing smooth switch of direction, C. Ronaldo is like watched Ronaldo a lot, this is how it looks for me, many similarities, the way he uses the chest, backheel passes, the way he controls the ball with the sole of his foot, the way he is crossing the ball :). I think is quite irrelevant to talk about the age, some are late bloomers, other middle football age others are early alliens as Ronaldo was, C. Ronaldo reached his peak only at 27-29 age for example, but the problem is that Ronaldo we never know if he reached his peak, it.s hard to say if so or not, it looked a peak form, but in the same time this guy looked like he could invent more things, who knows, anyway he would certainly mantain this level with proper training, without injuries, bad luck and other problems that he had, unfortunately, till his 30 at least, would have been amazing, he would certainly be there with the stats with Pele, C. Ronaldo and Messi. Early bloomers like Messi mean these people have an amazing natural talent, something out of the world or simple early bloomers that expose their whole talent as young then they fade cuz they have nothing to add, like Owen was, who at 18 was absolutely great for that age, but that was his peak, nowhere Ronaldo. In fact I have never seen a player except Pele to be that good to such early age like Ronaldo Nazario, he is for me the most natural gifted player in history with Pele, but for the way he crushed the toughest defences of 90s serie a or he destroyed la liga at 20, then y, it must be Ronaldo.Messi was also an early bloomer, absolutely fantastic player, but I agree with you till 22 even that was incredible good, I would choose Ronaldo over him, it.s like is a class more in favour of R9, while C. Ronaldo for me had a great talent, but cant be compared with R9 or Messi,Messi was at his best at 24-25, there was at his peak at absolut power, so Ronaldo either reached peak very young like Pele till 21-22 and would have continue this kind of performances for ages or would even get better at 25 and reach the ultimate level for 1 or 2 years, so if this guy would progress further he would have been clearly unstoppable for that peak period, there was no way to stop him, even so he was devastating and his play at 20-22 years was at the level of messi and Ronaldo peak, so he definetely he is there up with the best, was a shame he couldnt match and prove his talent with stats bcuz injuries ruined everything, he had such an amazing talent that even overweight and 3 ligament surgeries he was destroying Brazilian league, like it was some some third or forth division, that says how good this guy was.

@@pauleyonas3486 I think Ronaldo had better dribbling and skills than C. Ronaldo, but C. Ronaldo had better long range shooting and headers, with the time C. Ronaldo improved his step over also, and he improved his control a lot, at start he was much dependent on his speed, but i dont think he reached Ronaldo level, although he came close on his peak, I still wonder how R9 would look at 24-25 without injuries. Rest... team goals, both are great on that, counter... look at this guy speed, assists... hmm both were creating a lot due their enormous speed, if Ron continued with this form would have got some assists, just look in this video how easily his mates wasted the opportunities created, C. Ronaldo also created in similar fashion chances, especially in his prime in Madrid, I remember Higuain missing lots of chances created by him, timing goals and finishing both are exceptional on that, passes both can pass the ball in a excelent way, but look how simple and soft, smooth Ronaldo passes the ball when he is deeper on the pitch, in a playmaker position, shocking and tremendous good for just a 21 years old. Solo goals, both were capable of something like that, cuz both were on the highest level.
Best player of all time by a wide margin. The quantity and quality of skills condensed in this clip are what make of this season the best individual performance even witnessed on a pitch, even if inferior in terms of goals to the previous one with Barça. At that time the guy was putting into shame the best defenders in the world, keep this is mind. Also as an Italian, I'm not particularly proud of the excess of fouls an physicality emerging from some defensive plays. No wonder the man was basically hammered one year later 😔

Watch Ronaldinho best season in 2004 and 2005. He performed in better performance at very high tempo, plus Ronaldinho had two succesful campaign with his team. On the oher hand, R9 failed in a season to another season. The most succesful season he had in career was in Real Madrid 2003.
I must said, CR7 and Messi are better player than R9. Ronaldinho in 2 early season at Barcelona probably on the same level as CR7 and Messi's prime time.

People were stated this based on emotional feelings; amazed by his "one man show efforts". Now I will mention several points that we should consider below. Sorry if it too long, but we must learn on wider angle about this:
1. Let's skip the years when R9 at Cruzeiro and PSV. It was his beginning career at "small team" in lower level of competition. Though his performances in those early stage made him transfered to Barcelona.
2. Speaking of club titles, R9 were never wins League and Champions League; the two most important as a footballer in club competition. I am not trying to degrade what R9 has achieved here. It would makes me look like a hater. But honestly, there's something weird if you say he is the best in history but he never wins it. Ah, finally R9 wins Spanish La Liga with Real Madrid in 2003. And about Champions League, he has never reach even the final. Buffon did it twice.
3. Barcelona and Inter were giant club in his era. In 1996-97 at Barca, R9 played along with Luis Figo, Pep Guardiola, Hristo Stoichkov, Luis Enrique, Vitor Baia, Gheorghe Popescu, Giovanni, Laurent Blanc, Fernando Couto, Ivan de la Pena, and many more. Spanish La Liga back then played with 22 teams a season. R9 scored a lot of goals, but yet still can't win the titles. And despite he scored alot, Barcelona sold him to Inter Milan. Such a smart move by the Catalan club. It proved when Barcelona managed to win Spanish La Liga for 2 years consecutively since the departure of R9. Imagine a top scorer of La Liga, FIFA World Player of the Year and Ballon d'Or player at your club just sold in the next year. Do you think Barcelona are an amateur club to made that big decision?
Then in 1997-98 at Inter Milan, R9 played along with Ivan Zamorano, Alvaro Recoba, Nwanko Kanu, Maurizio Ganz, Paulo Sousa, Diego Simeone, Youri Djorkaeff, Javier Zanetti, Gianluca Pagliuca, and many more. And not to mentioned that Inter Milan has "super striker projects" in the coming years then with signed Christian Vieri, Roberto Baggio, Hakan Sukur, Mohammed Kallon, Adriano, Robbie Keane, and many talented player in the squad. This was one of the prime squad Inter Milan in history. Yet they almost achieve nothing. According to all these facts, we must acknowledge that your statement "...Barcelona and Inter were far away from having a prime squad in europe..." is wrong. Truth is, they were giant club in Europe, and they won many titles in the next years when R9 is not in their squad.
4. I agree that R9 has great skills. Probably one of the best in histroy. But this not enough to make him as the greatest footballer in history. R9 plays so egoistic. Pre injury is the years when he became one of the most selfish footballer ever. Just because he claimed FIFA World Player of the Year, nobody dares to criticize him about his style of play. If it were CR7, people will throwing rotten tomatoes towards him. This style of play so detrimental to the team. Proven that his team has never achieve a level of superior to others.
The fact is R9 does not play effectively. When he gets the ball, he was too egoistic, plays the ball on his feet and shoot. A player such like him this day will be shouted by every manager!! Remember in 2006 when Fabio Capello spoke that he will manage Real Madrid if R9 and Roberto Carlos were replaced. Then van Nistelrooy came to Real Madrid and they finally manage to win La Liga. You don't need an OP (over powered) player in your team, if he plays so egocentric. Steal the show and scoring goals when the team have an advantage in a game. But disappear and cant do much when opponents team control the game.
5. Unfortunately, the sentence of "...if it weren't for the injuries, he would be the best in history" is just daydream. In that context, we can say the same thing to Michael Owen; if it weren't for the injuries, he would be better than Rooney. Remember that if it weren't bad habit and night life, Ronaldinho would be the best in history as well.
Those excuses are irrelevant. We are speaking about football. A best player should be considered in every aspects, not only their skills. Zidane doesn't have speed, scoring rate, or penetration skills to the opponent's defender like R9. But he was amazing player, wins every titles and play consistent enough in his career. Let's put in a conclusion here.
I don't count only in biological talent and how fluent a player to play the ball on his feet. I think, if a player could maintain his top quality since today until the next 15 years, scoring goals more than his appearances in numbers, always there when the team needs him, achieve everything in football game, breaks all the records, having impact and change the game, strong personality and encourages teammates, influencing people in the world and make a good example; this is the best in history.
And now imagine all that I mentioned above was really happened in Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Last time I mentioned Ronaldinho in 2 early years at Barcelona were at CR7 and Messi's level. Yes, it because Ronaldinho always there when Barcelona needs him, involved in most of Barcelona goals, achieve everything both clubs and individual trophy, influencing many people in the world and changes the game. Personally, I would put Ronaldinho's skills above R9 as well. Since he has many different tricks and creativity.

Ronaldo is one of the GOATs without a shadow of doubt. However, saying Messi didn't play at this level is an absolute joke. Messi has played for over 15 years at the same level with bunch of dribbling, great amount of goals and assists. Maybe you've been sleeping all these years dube.

It's a joy watching Ronaldo when he was fearless, careless and just went on all-in in these 1 vs 2/3/4 defenders situations. You could tell the difference when he returned (after the Lazio game) the skill was still there and the goal scoring and everything but you could see that in general he first looked to pass the ball rather than going one on one even against one defender. I mean he still produced a shitload of highlights humiliating defenders in RM, Milan and Corinthians but you could tell that initial spark wasn't there, that pure fearless attitude, that mentality "I'm gonna walk over anyone who gets in my way". He said it himself he never reached his pre-injury shape and pace. Who knows what he would have achieved had he been healthy and injury free..

Yea you are correct what i saw at inter in 97 98-99 was magic no one has come close to that level ive seen. After he returned he could still produce those moments but not for periods of games just in little bursts still, the ronaldo that returned was still the best striker in the world just not the best player ever anymore. Obsessed over football my whole life, like R9 I got injured young, been around the game a long time and seen many great players but nobody in the history of the game was as good as Ronaldo in his first season at inter Milan. Everyone keeps saying how Maradona won the Serie A by himself, without any other good players at Napoli at that time. Ronaldo was playing at Inter with a bunch of defensive midfielders (they are so many) and Zamorano (not even the best Chilian at the time). And with that team, Inter lost the Serie A mainly due to their defeat by Juventus 3 games before the end of the league.
YEAH, with that horrendous penalty by Iouliano (on Ronaldo) that was never given to Inter. CALCIOPOLI times. Just watch that game.
A penalty away from the greatest season a player has ever had. There was nothing he didnt do at Inter that season. He was the playmaker, the finisher, the set piece taker. Countless magic moments. And not that Neymar bullshit. (No player has ever done what he did to those 2 Schalke defenders on the Uefa Cup semi final).
And finally, on that same season he played in the World Cup Final. One of the most controversial games we have ever experienced. We have heard everything. From the game fixing so that France wins.... to the epileptic seizure Ronaldo had a few hours before the game. Personally, I believe he had some kind of health issue indeed on that day. Just watch the interviews after the 2002 World Cup where he was saying how afraid he was not to have the same "incident" before the final with Germany. But maybe he was just starting the season slow and THEN the injuries happened, dont know.

Well put. Also on your point about him being not the same after 98 world Cup, his knee was already bothering him by that point. 98/99 he was practically playing on one knee. He kept complaining about chronic knee pains which is why he only played 19 games in serie a that season, mostly not even full games. They kept playing him until he finally had that first ligament tear and was out for 5-6 months before his comeback game where his patellar tendon was totally destroyed.
No ref in the world would've given a penalty for that at the time. The idea that it was a fix is a fantasy of Inter fans.
Inter was a team filled with star players cobbled togerther by the Morattis' money but utterly lacking in team cohesion or soul. Did you actuially see this stuff? Zamorano only played 13 league games that season and didn't become a regular for Inter until the following season. A team of defensive midfielders? Zanetti, Moriero, Djorkaeff? its from his first season only. shirt number #10 after that season he changed to 9 because R.baggio came. its his best season because after that there was WC 98 at the summer and he never was the same after WC98 he was 80%. and then came the horrific injury one year later. and that made him just 30% of his past skill. age 22.
