It's more so that she was being cruel to him in general. She said that specifically to hurt his feelings. Also, she was already asking him to do something he considers morally wrong. This was just a last straw type of situation.
They used the comedic, humorous, and jokes to make it unique without distracting the stories and plot and annoying the audiences that makes them think it was too childish too watch. But in reality, it’s perfect to use it as the role of seriousness and emotional drama.
It’s because the original more serious movie was scrapped really close to the deadline so they never rewrote a new script. They just storyboarded jokes and stitched together a story out of it really quickly.
