74 year old hear, love the way stevie explained the gate job,my partner Hazel thinks your both lovely so she has started watching the vids ,as I am doing jobs she is my project manager.that has one very informative vid well done.
Liz Truss obviously not a subscriber because if she was she would see that D&J are proper grafters and we are proud of it👍 great gate install gents, the gutster bar is a must have tool I think
I like how you explain things in a simple to understand manner and that you go the extra mile making sure the job is done right which doesn't cost much but the customer should never have any issues.
Great video as usual, very informative and always interesting. I have hung a few gates and side doors, usually on my own, and I am a great believer in wooden wedges of different sizes and angles. It means you can rest the door an a firm base whilst you secure the hinges and adjust the height by pushing in or pulling out the wedge. I use a couple of clamps also to hold the gate steady. Easily made in your workshop from scrap wood. Keep them coming I am learning a lot. Regards Fred
Plumb is the wall(vertical) level is the floor(horizontal). That was the little trick I was taught as a young lad until I could remember the proper terms. Worked like a charm.
Love the fact that a tasty lock was installed when you can still just hop over the low fence at the side. Nice work though - I've got a similar job on for my son-in-law.
Hi Steve, I do enjoy watching all of the D & J videos. I have seen quite a few of you hanging gates, including this one. Can I suggest to make life easier, you cut yourself four wooden wedges from a 3 x 3 post with a leading edge of 5mm going upto 30mm. These can be used side by side under the gate, from each side of the gate to be fitted . You can then adjust the hight & square them up more accurately before putting the hinge screws in. It will save having to rest the gate on the end of a boot, plus having to keep putting the screws in and out many times, such as seen in this video. All the best, Colin.
Sixty Thousand subscribers is an amazing achievement in such a short time. You’ve also got me watching Ashville and The Professional struggler. Gates looked good and the non handle was so wrong .
60,000 people are not wrong, you try your best with humility and quality + you respect your staff who Are a great part of your team stay safe live long and prosper ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
7 ft gates with key lock (nice) but then you can walk past them and hop over a 3 ft neighbours fence - security?? (not). Hi guys well done on reaching 60,000 subscribers. You know great content and hard work got you here. 👍
Hello D&J. Congrats on 60k guys!🎊 Lovely job Steve and Ant. The gates are very nice! I would go with a brass or black handle not the metal ring! Hopefully they will be back to you for fencing otherwise the garden is still not very secure!!! Keep up the fab work. See you Sunday. Xxx
Yeah that brass and silver do not go together if they're both brass okay and thanks guys for putting up the videos as always it's a pleasure to watch you
Very short n sweet video for Wednesday, looking forward to Sundays😁 Gorgeous gate but definitely a black handle wanted for the gate, always love gold and black or black and gold.
Needs a nice brass pull handle on it, glad you didn't spoil it with that galvo one! Great video! Congrats on 60k! Keep them coming! And hurry up and fit in Derby :)
well done to all at D&J for reaching 60,000 subscribers I have been one from near the start and try to watch every week its a great learning tool and very intertaining at the same time, I have always used wedges to get the gap on doors and gates top and bottom and to get the small gap at the post edge of each gate either a pencil (old school) or a piece of fether edge' I vote brass handle lads keep up the good work.
Gates were smart looking, that handle didn't look right but think it needs one that matches the brass lock, to make it easy to pull the gate shut. Congratulations on 60 thousand subscribers.
A massive well done for 60 fousand subsrarbers! Lol. I remember when you were asking for 100 likes, bloody heck how far you come guys 🏆🏆🏆. 🎉🎉🎉😘. I’ve had a lot of blisters watching all the fences you’ve erected.
Great job with those gates Stevie. Nice One! And I agree with you, that particular handle didn’t work for me. I always used to find using a couple of wedges under doors/gates will hold them almost mm perfect for you to put in the first few screws and minimised the chances of having to adjust.......also it makes it so much easier for your ‘mate’ not having to take the whole weight of the gate and hold it rock-steady while you sod about getting the screws in.
Another excellent install. Well done Stevie and Ant. Know there is more than one way to get the job done bus as that tall post is not in the ground and does not seem to support anything, I would have pulled this put and screwed the neighbours small fence post to your gate post. Plub the fence and add strength. Save on a few boards to. Just my 2 pence. Keep up the good work and thank you.
Well done on 60K! Should get some exponential growth going on from here so the next 60K will happen more quickly for you (good channel) For an explanation on plumb and level, as I remember being told in my joinery apprenticeship some 40+ years ago was that back in the good old days, vertical and horizontal checks were made with two different tools: a water LEVEL was used for horizontal checks and a PLUMB-bob (a pointy weight on a string) was used for vertical checks and each tool could only check one plane you could shout to the apprentice to pass you the LEVEL or PLUMB-bob depending on what you wanted to check. In modern times though there really is no need to bother as most "levels" now can perform both functions so nothing wrong with calling everything "level"
Steve, congratulations All of you D&J family for getting to 60 K subscribers. And I want to say thank you to you, for how wonderful you take the time and effort to make these videos so interesting, it is all time out to get them at such a good standard, so well done. I don't think the ring handle suits the fence door either.x
That's a new one for me, Metric measurements for width and Imperial for height....... Love it.... Keep up the quality content guys and gals. And well done for the 60k, not to shabby!!!!
Double doors /gates Stevie master /slave master is the main opener and slave is the fixed opened When needed Yes needs handle to hold it closed while locking One man fitting is relatively easy to timber block on floor near middle of gate and rock it into position but is easier with 2 Keep up the good work guys I'm retired now 45yrs carpenter/ joiner Nice to see guys that take pride in your work My philosophy was always your only as good as your last job Murf
The gate needs a plain pull handle for when it's windy. Not the ring one. When hanging a door place appropriate shims for height. This will also help line up the hinges without fussing about. Remove shims after install. Half the time I would use a flat pry bar to hold it up and fine adjustments for height. Plumb is vertical, level is horizontal, rack is diagonal. When mounting locks, it is preferred that the cylinder does not protrude excessively. If it's out 1", shim the rear 29:07 about 1/2 to 3/4" using whatever looks good. . The same material for the gate, wood is ok. Or use plastic shimming material, cut to fit. You should use 2 bolts into the ground, 1 for each side. When the weather is bad, it really beats up the doors.
Well done D&J on hitting 60k subscribers well deserved .An other great gate install looks great dont think the handle would have looked right as well Stevie (son).lol.
Just been watching some old episodes from April 21. You have certainly come along way - both in business and on UA-cam- in 18 mths. Back then you were buying in top soil and only had 312 subscribers!!! Keep it up. 👊
The weeks fly so quickly...you're right Nick! James Hollingshead is a true gent and mega sized & strong. There is no doubt the UK Arnold this year is going to be a hard to win show with the current line up of competitors. Regardless no one trains harder than James so I wish him well this year and hopefully it will be better attended with the Vax BS of previous ... It's going to be a great show 😊
Your weekly videos have been a true inspiration never missed one you and your dad really are down to earth and excellent prices u have some top soil to deliver to my dads in next week or 2 hopefully there to meet one of you
Congrats on the 60.000 subscribers 👏🏻 🍾🎉🌟 Think that I would put a different one on, cus the lock is a bit big and the colours clash. All in all its looking good 👌🏻
🎊Congratulations🎊 on achieving 60k subscribers 👏🏼 A great achievement in only 20 months 👍🏼 The double gate install 👍🏼👏🏼 I would personally go for either a brass or a black, flat handle and definitely not the ring one. I agree with previous comments, get a matching fence built to help protect the property, because as it stands it would be easy to hop over the 2'6"/3' existing fence! Stevie can I make a H&S suggestion: when using the brick drill, where holding the post in position, please wear safety glasses? It can be so easy for a metal splinter, or brick/concrete shard to be flung unto your face. 🤓
Congratulations on reaching 60k 🏖️ If you use GateMate locks they have handles that fit over the barrel and also have the option of thumb lock at the back to remove the hassle of using the key.
Congratulations D&J on 60,000 subscribers you guys deserve it well done I've been with you all the way 👏. Steve no handle on the double side gates it looks cool as it is . Bow .
A very neat and tidy job looks tens times better. 👍👍 I have hung many gates in my working life, i find that if you use a combination of wedges to hold the gates in position it saves on having to adjust the gates as you can adjust the gaps by moving the wedges.
Gratulations D&J on 60k 👍 Steve & Ant Great gate install Thanks for showing us the how to of the process . Put a handle, please not that one. Need something to match the lock. Always wishing everyone there the best Stay strong and safe
done a good job [ drive gate ] i would have put a vertical slide bolts on the inside on both gates ,but as u say customer gets what they want, great video as always
Congratulations D&J prodjects on reaching 60k subscribers, brilliant gate installation they look amazing as usual. Probably go for a brass handle rather than metal finish one.👌🏼👍🏼
"The gate is 6'6"-7' high, about 2.5 metres wide", classic statement. Like I say a the timber yard I want a 8'x4' sheet, how thick, oh 12mm. 😉 Congratulations on the 60,000 will get the silver plaque soon.
The simple rule for level and plumb is anything that is vertical is plumb, and anything horizontal is level. Very happy for your 60K subs! I've never had a gate go up bang on the first time, it's always taken at least a little adjustment. I would put just a brass or black pull handle under the lock. It's not too shabby either way. Great video and crack on.
Another cracking job ste and ant! I don’t think it needs the hands ste. Looks out of place as you say. Roll on Sunday for another week with the guys and girls at d&j.
Best quote ever Stevie " no point having a super tight hole if you can't get your tools in" 😂

Fantastic double gate install. I agree with you it doesn't need the handle and if you were to put a handle on not the galvanized natural colour one.

plumb vertically 'level horizontal....and have you thought about wrapping the bottom of timber post in flashband to extend the life?
nice gate very good looking. If you put a handle on it may use a gold one to match the lock. great job guys.

For the timber gates you should invest into a couple inflatable air wedges, much easier for the person who has to support the gate 👍🏻
Or use the Gutster bar as a lever
